Judging by the requirements, I could easily do a Software Engineer job at eBay. The job description doesn't even ask for litarate German as a requirement.
http://pages.ebay.de/community/aboutebay/jobs/secst.html Does anybody have any experience of working for them?
The online application asks for a covering letter and CV. Are German CV's different from UK ones? Do they, and covering letters, have to be in German?
Any help appreciated.

if a job description is written in English, traditionally you write the CV in English, unless it is otherwise explained.
and yes, German Bewerbunge is an art form all by themselves. They require a great deal of focus, concentration and time. Dont think to get a professional position with a slapped together resumé, it wont fly. however, if you want an english teaching job or a call centre job, then the minimum will suffice.
I would purchase a book on the subject and look at how to professional format your resume, regardless of the language you choose to do.
Germans are little behind on the whole CV revolution, so you will need very good, professional photos, and everything you have ever done - including gaps, marital status, gender, etc.
