I think that myself and my good woman (who is without internet and handy today by the way if anybody's trying to reach her) might fancy a spot of that mate - especially as I'll have the Monday off.

Definitely will do something else if the weather is bad. Still though keep your fingers crossed and press your thumbs firmly for a bit of sunshine.

Depends what time...I'm coming back to Munich at around lunch-time on Sunday, so if I'm not too fucked up from 3 days on the piss in Berlin, I might see if I can make it...
Badger
Jul 26 2004, 5:39 pm
Well my baby sister (just turned eighteen; hands off!) will be arriving sometime Sunday afternoon/evening, and the plan is to bring her out... So you should be ok turning up late too, Hazza. And I promise we'll get you thrown in the
Isar somehow; that should help with the hangover.

So far we are about 10 people (one or two of these are maybes). I'll be bringing along a BBQ but if anyone else has one as well that'd be great.
To answer Toronto's question from another thread, you need to bring along basically whatever you want to eat and drink yourself. If you can bring something extra (like a salad, a cake, a case of Augustiner or something) to share around then all the better. Unless you are actually bringing an extra BBQ you don't need to worry about coals n stuff like that. I think most people who've said they'll be along have done the BBQ thing in Munich before. If you haven't then feel free to give me a call and I'll give you whatever details and/or help you need. PM me for my mobile number.

I am going to buy a couple of those kebab thingies on Saturday then, can anyone recommend a decent marinade that I can stick it in overnight?
Badger
Jul 27 2004, 4:53 pm
A bit of (sesame or if not available, olive) oil, some soy sauce, some crushed garlic (and ginger), chilli seeds, a little bit of honey. Standard Asian chicken, pork and prawn marinade.
For beef, some olive oil, plenty alcohol (JD's, red wine, ...), a handful of slightly crushed pepper, rosemary.
Basically you need some oila nd then throw in whatever you want the flavour of.

Jul 27 2004, 6:13 pm
@3Lions - tell me what meat you are buying, I'll give you a marinade. As badger rightly says, oil is important (offers a medium for other ingredients' natural oils to come out), but there are some ace French-style marinades that involve heating up some wine and adding some stuff to it to make an infusion - improves flavour.

Sounds like a good time. Count us in!
I believe bike by this spot every day to/from work. It's the one right by a big pedestrian bridge, right? Seems like a quaint area and a good place to have a BBQ.
EDIT: Nevermind, sounds like this place is not right on the river where I'm thinking.

Jul 27 2004, 9:26 pm
Can someone please post the exact location of the BBQ spot in the Englisher Garten which was mentioned in
the previous thread.
Assuming that all goes well we can meet at 2:30pm, relax, catch a few rays, chill, drain a few tinnies, muck about, chomp some munchies, kick back, basically your average day out in the sun.
As I mentioned previously, if anyone needs a number for contact purposes just drop me a PM and I'll oblige. If you don't have it already it's probably a good idea in case it starts chucking it down before we meet up and we have to change location. Or in case you get lost and attacked by a
Wolperdinger.

Have to say, I'm a little nervous about seeing Don's gooma.

Count me in too! Looking forward to meeting you all...
I also have a grill and some coal I can bring along... Just let me know.
BTW, where/when exactly are we grilling? And, as a newbie, I won't recognise any of you. Is the place pretty full? Don't really fancy going round the parties asking if they're part of TT!!!
Cheers!

I'm not sure on the location myself quite yet to be honest - I guess enlightenment will come at a later stage. In the meantime PM me for my mobile number, and I'd recommend you PM somebody else too just in case I'm late or out of signal...

Alrighty then, the exact directions which I've just received (graciously provided by SK04) are as follows:
From Studentenstadt U-Bahn, follow the signs for the Englischer Garten and enter at the end of the road after about 200m.
Follow path another 150m-200m until a slight fork (by a bench/rubbish bin) and go left.
You then come to a big meadow...one very big field but at far bottom side c. 300m (just across the path and next to a big bunch of bushes/small trees), near the river, there is a stone section for Grilling/Fires.
That should be clear enough for everyone. Any problems then give me a call. Looks like we've got a good crowd now so I'd say a second BBQ would come in very handy. Satman, if you can bring your that'd be great.
Look for the inflatable blue guitar. I believe it's at home so I'll bring it along. 'Erm I also expect to have a real guitar with me too...hopefully.

there's a river right next to the grilling area... quite fast flowing so maybe tie a bag of beers to the side.

Gooma is slang, coming from the Italian "comare" - godmother. Now used to mean mistress, bird, girlfriend etc.

don't forget to take bug-spray (e.g. autan) with you, the mossies are aggressive little buggers in that area. (I train there frequently and com eback bitten all over, and by the mossie, and the bites itch like fuck for days after)
