I'll be moving to Berlin for work in two weeks (and they just confirmed it on Friday - how's that for short notice?). I need to find a furnished flat, preferably with DSL, for four to six weeks while I look around and find something more permanent.
Can anyone recommend:
a) a flat they know for rent, from January 14 or so, for around a month?
b) an agency or service that rents out short-stay flats?
c) any other places, other than a hotel, that I might stay for a month or so?
As it's only short term, neighborhood or apartment size aren't terribly important - though if I have the luxury of being choosey, a 2 room flat in Prenzl'berg would suit me quite nicely. And of course if anyone's had personal experience with this situation, I'd love to hear about that as well.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nate

There are heaps of sites with short term apartment lets in Berlin. There are a couple that have ads on this site, as well if you look on most of the Berlin tourist sites.
A friend of mine has been browsing
www.ferienwohnung-zimmer-berlin.de for an apartment for when her parents will be here for a few weeks. it seems like a decent site that gives a range of different neighborhoods and types of flats.

Better late than never... I hope.
You can try
www.coming-home.org and www.wg-gesucht.de. There's also a mitwohnzentrale (website I don't have with me) for Berlin that may be useful. Also check the online newspaper ads, I think the Berliner Zeitung is likely a good choice for those.
Good luck with it!

In my past visits to Berlin, I always stayed in furnished apts for 1-2 months. Agencies I used were
http://www.fineandmine.de and
http://www.roomwithaloo.com. Both found me suitable apartments.

If you don't mind about short-term location, there are two apartment complexes in Wedding that cater to corporate customers:
1. Arcos Apartment-Haus www.arcosapartmenthaus.de
2. Paul Herz - House of Nations - has locations in other areas also. www.house-of-nations.com
Both come completely furnished. I prefer the Arcos apartments as the rooms are pretty spacious and housekeeping comes once a week, but no DSL.
www.home-company.de specialise in furnished rooms/flats/houses. I used them in Munich, but they're nationwide. Can be pricey, but I think that applies to all agencies in Germany.

Thanks everyone for your help. I checked out all the various sites, and eventually found a place through Fine & Mine.
If anyone in the future is looking for a short-term place in Prenzl'berg, the place I found looks like good value -- they have three or four flats in the building, from 45/night, or 200/week. You can save some dosh by going straight to the owner and skipping the agency fee: www.guest-room-berlin.de.
If that place is full or you're looking for something different, Fine & Mine (www.fineandmine.de) was a helpful and efficient agent, and I'd recommend them.

for your next visit- try www.berlin.flats.de. Fine&mine ask for apartments there and then puts money on top of their offer.
So if you go straight there, you safe the agency fees aswell.
