I finally got the chance to see Prison Break, which's been on my must-see list for a while. Like others posting here, I think it's absolutely brilliant. So far I've finished watching all of season one, so I'm anxious to watch seasons two and three before season four comes out sometime this year on Fox.
I love the originality of the show, the plot twists and intricate story-line (that clever tattoo!) and the character profiles - albeit with some subtle pretentiousness. Definitely a must-see show. For those who haven't seen Prison Break, I recommend this critically-acclaimed suspense thriller immensely.

Prison break is the best show that has ever been on TV. My friend let me borrow season one from her back in March and I became addicted. I've now seen seasons one, two and three and with no more Prison break for now, a hole has been left in my life. I can't wait for season four!
By the way, the two main characters, Lincoln and Michael are unbelievably sexy. Every female I know fancies one or both of them!
This really is a MUST WATCH TV show!
Only problem is that I think its so hard to beat. I recently started watching Lost because of all the good stuff I've heard about it but I find it very slow and even slightly boring compared to Prison break. I'm sure I would have been more into Lost had I watched it before Prison break.

Well, as a guy myself I won't mind sharing a drink with them, but that's about as far as I'll go. I can see how these two fellows can make the ladies swoon; there's no denying they're both handsome. You might be interested to know that both actors are British-born: Dominic Haakon Myrtvedt Purcell was born in Wallasey, Merseyside and grew up in Australia (now living in Los Angeles), and Wentworth Earl Miller III was born in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, then moving to Brooklyn, New York, at the age of one.
Now when it comes to the ladies on Prison Break, I have the hots for Sarah Wayne Callies who plays Dr. Sara Tancredi (below left) and Jessalyn Gilsig who plays Lincoln Burrows's wife Lisa Rix in season one (she also stars in Nip/Tuck).

Mad Men is a good watch. Set around the lives of people running an Ad Agency in the late 50's/early 60's in New York. Excellently politically incorrect where women knew their place and the ones wishing to rebel got dealt with severely... Great entertainment.
Hells Kitchen is back. Basic Gordon Ramsay entertainment.
Someone made a reference to Lipstick Jungle. Total and utter wank and, as far as I know, deservedly given the axe.

I wonder if anybody is young enough to remember these two westerns? The Virginian and The High Chaparral. I look forward to getting these classics on DVD soon.

Didn't read the whole thread, so don't know if anyone mentioed it, but "My Name is Earl" is hilarious. It's dead-on with the jokes about southern white trash, and the Joy character is just falling-down funny.
Just started Day 6 of 24. Addictive as usual.
I also love Numb3rs. Very clever FBI show about an FBI agent and his mathematician genius brother who uses advanced math to solve crimes.

My absolute favourites:
Friends (think no other series can ever top this) Extras Heroes (so far - but that's only series one, hope it stays that good) Without a trace ER My so-called life
I also like(d) very much: Medium The office (engl. version) Gilmore girls Sex and the city Roseanne Brothers and Sisters Lost 24 Frasier Dr. House The L word Ally McBeal Grey's Anatomy
Oh, and a new series, think it hasn't been mentioned here before: Gavin and Stacey - absolutely addictive, looking forward to the 2nd season - a BBC gem that should be better known!

Up there in terms of quality with "The Sopranos" and the fantastic series "Rome", is a TV series about the life of Henry the 8th, called "The Tudors". Bloody marvellous it is, and the first series has some appearances from the absolutely delectable Gabrielle Anwar. She's so ridiculously tasty that I'm also currently watching a TV series called "Burn Notice", in which she's the female lead role, and wears alot of skimpy clothes. I've recently been trying a TV series called Breaking Bad, with the dad bloke from Malcolm in the Middle starring as a science teacher, who has contracted lung cancer, and decides to make a load of money by cooking crystal meth. Only seen 3 episodes, and not really into it to be honest - not sure where it is going.
Something maybe of interest to some is that they're currently filming a US version of Life on Mars - with Colm Meaney (transporter chief Miles O'Brien from Star Trek) as Gene Hunt. weird shit. I loved Life on Mars, and will be interested to see the US take on it. I didn't really rate Ashes to Ashes much, because the lead female got on my bloody nerves.

I've seen the trailer for the US version of Life on Mars - I'm not sure it's going to work. But then I absolutely love John Simm as Sam Tyler and I can't imagine anyone else in that role, same goes for Phil Glenister as Gene.

Talking of american versions of shows, the US pilot version of red dwarf was one of the worst thing i have ever seen. When will execs learn...
If its based on steriotypes it prob will not work well in the other country IF YOU DO NOT HAVE a likewise steriotype.
Just import the damn thing and let your viewers decide if they like it or not.
Of course it goes both ways and there have been some crap UK version of US shows..

I just finished season 2 of Dexter. aside from the fact that "Dexter" is quite hot, it's sort of weird feeling sympathy for him, hoping he does not get caught, but at the same time finding conflict with my morals. after all he is a serial killer. and his dead-pan, dry humor - a wacky show.

My favourite TV series of 2006 was "The Wire". I can recommend this to anyone and everyone - I got through all four series' in 4 months. The first series takes a few episodes to get going, but after that the storylines, characters and everything else are excellent...
Kudos for the recommendation. Am only on season 1, but it is excellent t.v. I wish they had subtitles though - some of that street talk is gibberish to my ears! There was only episode where they said "fuck" around 50 times in 5 minutes!

By the way, has anybody seen Mad Men? I've heard very good things about this award-winning show. It's created by The Sopranos writer Matthew Weiner and is about an advertising agency on New York City's Madison Avenue set in the 1960s.

Undoubtedly the best show to ever to grace the TV screens. I'm just getting through season five now. There should've been a separate Toytown thread just on The Wire since it's that brilliant. However season five was the last and fans like me will surely miss it. I'd love to get my hands on the box set of all five seasons.
That classic scene with the "fuck" dialog was from the episode 'Old Cases', the fourth in season one. Detectives Jimmy McNulty (British actor Dominic West) and William "Bunk" Moreland (Wendell Pierce) investigate a six month old case of a girl shot dead in her apartment.

Mein Leben und Ich Best german sitcom ever! (In fact only german sitcom worth the name). Heavily based on "My So-Called Life"", but not a copy (localized and another genre).
Unfortunately completed after 74 episodes and not broadcasted at the moment. However a DVD with the first two seasons will be sold in early November.
From the british sitcoms: Coupling So much better than Sex and the City. And the brits don't feel a need to include advertising for London in every episode!
Was send on Pro7 dubbed and repeated on Comedy Central, but seems to be not broadcasted in their current programme.
(and by the way: It may be a strange behaviour that germans dub every movie and series they want to broadcast, but isn't it even stranger when americans broadcast british comedy series? They did not simply broadcast the british series, they re-filmed it with new characters).
My Family Currently broadcasted on Comedy Central (dubbed of course).
and the legendary... Monthy Python's Flying Circus One of the view english comedy productions that was send in original language (with subtitles) on german television (many years ago).
It's the main reason why germans stare when they notice a britain: Will he start a silly walk? Will he turn into a scotsman?

Same for Boston Legal - though this will be the last season I am still surprised a show like this is running sucessfully in the US - after all the America bashing here in the forum this success gives me a lot of hope for the Land of the Free!

I've only seen the first couple of episodes of the first season. I enjoy it, but as I have a bit of a squeamish nature, sometimes the dead bodies creep me out and I have to look away...which surprised me for as its quite a primetime show...normally I don't have that many problems with things like that but something about the way its done in Dexter gets to me. It won't stop me continue watching though, although maybe I should get a DVD player to connect to my TV and not just watch it on my laptop where its a lot closer to my face!
Thank you - but I own all DVD's - I am just still sad the shows were terminated...

Its actually a showtime show, the version showed on broadcast is edited a bit I imagine. There was a campaign to prevent it from airing on normal tv due to the subject matter, but it failed.

I've been watching Dexter since it came out and the show is well into its third season. It's a very entertaining show and I highly recommend it.
Californication is quite funny, though the characters are relatively weak, in comparison with a lot of the stuff which is available on TV today.

The last season was weaker, I'll give you that, however the quality of the dialog never ceased to amaze me. They never made a fourth season or that two hour special which was rumored for a long time meaning that there was no real closure with regards to a lot of story lines either.

Californication - Witty dialogue, good writing. Lots of vagina jokes and the occasional female ejaculation. All in all, a fun show (and I just love David Duchovny, sorry) with some good music. Episodes are short, 25 minutes a pop.
