I read something interesting a few months ago. Basically the article said that thanks to reality tv, the quality of scripted drama has risen in the last 6 or 7 years. A network can make a quick certain profit for stuff like "Dancing with the Stars", "Survivor" or "Deal or No Deal". So for a network to take a risk and put a drama on its schedule, the drama has to be really really good.

The Sopranos, without a doubt.

I'm still waiting for season 6 to come out on DVD over here.

Seinfeld ...still funny after all these years

Did anyone else see the Australian program 'Love My Way' ? It was on Five Life and the series has just finished. I really hope a 2nd series happens as it was amazing.

All seasons of Blackadder. Especially, by my opinion that is, the second and fourth seasons. An excellent and thought-provoking documentary comedy.

i got my beau 4400 for christmas and we've just started season 2. we are also now halfway through season 2 of prison break, but it just gets "öde". same went for "lost". we were hooked, but just stopped watching. not sure where we're at there. we're caught up except for the last 3 episodes or so.

will be looking for new food soon.

Another TV show that I never tire of watching: UK science fiction show The Prisoner. I was blown away when I first saw a rerun of it back in the 1980s. A classic ahead of its time.

My favourite TV series of 2006 was "The Wire". I can recommend this to anyone and everyone - I got through all four series' in 4 months. The first series takes a few episodes to get going, but after that the storylines, characters and everything else are excellent.

In 2006 I also enjoyed Lucky Louie, Entourage, Rome, The Lost Room, Studio 60 and 30 Rock. A pretty good year for TV, all things considered.

Just saw 30 Rock for the first time this past Thursday and it was entertaining.

I wonder if anybody remembers a show from the 1990s entitled My So-Called Life? It was produced by the same people that made thirtysomething. I was a big fan of My So-Called Life, and it was a shame ABC canceled it because it didn't reach a wider audience other than its cult following due to ABC's poor marketing of the show, and Claire Danes - the main star - leaving to act in movies. It was a great show about teenage life, and is now available on DVD. Check it out if you get the chance.

For classic laughs I can't stop watching Red Dwarf, Blackadder and Men Behaving Badly

That was a brilliant show. As a social outcast myself of the same age as the actors, it was the only show on TV that 'spoke' to me. I was devastated and full of righteous indignation (in typical teenage style) when it was cancelled.

As for current shows, I love 24, all the Law and Orders, except Criminal Intent, because the Vincent D'Onofrio character is so one-dimensional, although I usually like him in other stuff.

Also can't hardly tolerate watching CSI: Miami because David Caruso is so full of himself as to be unwatchable. They get some interesting plotlines down in Miami with the ocean and sharks and stuff, but I just can't stand Caruso. I also hated him in NYPD Blue, but after he left, that became one of my favorite shows ever, especially the Jimmy Smits years

Also like this newer series called 'Medium' with Patricia Arquette as a psychic who helps the police. As long as I don't get stuck on it being totally believable, it is very well-acted with interesting plots.

As for German TV, I like Wetten Das, as I can still be vaguely entertained without understanding much German. Ditto for Upps and Superstar.

I recorded all the episodes on videotape when I lived in Canada back in the 90s. I remember many fans were upset when the show was getting canceled. It was pen-to-paper time for a lot of people, all writing letters to ABC. Fat lot of good it was in the end.

New Canadian Miniseries called Dragon Boys that looks quite interesting.

Also good to see Rome and L Word have both new seasons started.

Just have to put my hand up as another die-hard fan of My So-Called Life. It's hands-down my favourite TV show of all time. Absolutely brilliant. I was the same age as Angela Chase when the show premiered, and I nearly had to be put on suicide watch when it was cancelled.

I still quote Angela sometimes. One of my favourites: 'It's such a lie that you should do what's in your heart. If we all did what was in our hearts, the world would grind to a halt.'

Ooh, if anyone has copies of this show, I'd beg to borrow them.

House is the best show on TV, imo. Tritter story line appears to finally be over, but have to wonder whether Dr. House's still addicted to Vicodin. Hope not.

For those who haven't seen it, it's the most original medical drama since the early days of E.R. Dr. House is loosely based on a Sherlock Holmes-type character with 3 Mr. Watson's assisting him diagnose cases no one else can begin to figure out. It's all about his character played by the British actor Hugh Laurie, who is phenomenal.

I totally agree. I was sick in bed in a hotel once, and there was a Deadliest Catch marathon on Discovery, and I thought, "God, how boring will this be - crabs, crabs, crabs," but then I was completely hooked, I couldn't believe it. Didja see the one where they rescued the guy who fell of the other boat? That was incredible.

Also have to agree with House being one of the best shows in a long, long time. Hugh is a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

Right now I am currently on a Criminal Minds marathon. I dig it.

I just finished an Oz marathon last week, and I know it is, like, so 5 year ago, but somehow I missed it the first time around. Pretty brutal, for sure, but also pretty amazingly well-acted. (And for the ladies, the (very often naked) men are just so... damn!)

Oh dear, am I the only one who is hooked on "Strictly Come Dancing"? Watching celebrities bruise their toes (and egos) learning fairly complicated choreographies at the rate of one or two a week and treading the slippery boards of a ballroom environment completely outside their professional sphere is highly addictive. Of course, it helps if you are an avid ballroom dancer yourself but even a comparatively clueless spectator like Scogs has got the hang of what to look for and at.

Not that we always agree with the judges, I think they are too lenient with some contestants and unneccessarily harsh with others.

Sadly, Willie Thorne was voted off this week. Ok, he's a stiff old man but he looked fabulous in his tux. I would put money on Dominic Littlewood, he can move!
