A German man tried to visit his girlfriend in Sydney, but mistyped and ended up in Montana, USA.

CNN story here: Typo takes tourist 13,000 km out

Gutt's airline ticket routed him via the U.S. city of Portland, Oregon, to Billings, Montana. Only as he was about to board a commuter flight to Sidney -- an oil town of about 5,000 people -- did he realize his mistake.

And then people say that spelling isn't important. rolleyes.gif

I'd feel like a right idiot if I were him. I do not understand how he could get it that wrong. If I were the girlfriend I'd start to wonder/reconsider some things.

So, think about it. A 21 year old, love-struck German man wants nothing more than to spend Christmas with his dear girlfriend who lives in Sydney, Australia. So, he saves up for over 6 months so he can afford the plane fare. The man has never left Germany before so he is faced with the daunting prospect of planning his trip, which he does alone, and is, no doubt, very proud that he actually achieved all this. Final phone call to the woman and she eagerly awaits his arrival at the Sydney airport... The flight takes off and he is full of anticipation until he eventually notices that Sydney seems to have gained snow-capped mountains and the temperature was a trifle chilly for the Australian summer... He then noticed his slight error - he had booked a flight to Sidney, Montana instead of Sydney, Australia. Oops...

Mr Gutt told Bild newspaper he had begun to suspect something was wrong - but hoped things would turn out all right.
He said: "I did wonder but I didn't want to say anything.
"I thought to myself, you can fly to Australia via the United States."
Mr Gutt's airline ticket took him via the US city of Portland, Oregon, to Billings, Montana.
Only as he was about to board an internal commuter flight to Sidney - an oil town of about 5,000 people - did he realise his mistake.

The local news report on this the story ended with the line:

Still, it could have been worse. With no winter gear, this real life accidental tourist could have ended up in another Sydney - the one in Nova Scotia.

So travelers ought to be careful not only of the spelling of destinations. ohmy.gif

Do tell. Random stuff has to be more exciting than double posts. Does it involve wine perchance? I hears tell that that there Napa place is famous for it. Or was that the other valley? Speaking of valley, met any valley girls yet? Was Frank Zappa right on or what? Like, fer sure Nic Cage was way cool in that movie.

Yep. Napa is about as famous for its wine as Tennessee is famous for marrying, and having kids with, your relatives or something.. wink.gif

Now if said young German stud was going to go to Paris, we got one of them. In fact, my parents spent their honeymoon in Paris. Tennessee that is. It was either that or Cairo.
