very interesting thread.

the photos above are gross.

kiera knightly has the same figure as my boyfriend, obviously he doesnt have boobs. I think that as long as you aren't obese and arent underweight then everything is good. I spent years on diets and was told that 'guys dont like fat girls' and all the other old wives tales. only to meet my boyfriend when i was hideously fat and we have been together for nearly three years. so go figure. I think that girls listen to the media too much. although with dolls like bratz around I do despair for the next generation and their view of the female form!

oh and magazines like FHM who have brilliant air brushers on their books.

kind of random opinions there but I thought I would add.

There's no way those pics aren't photoshopped.

I saw a TV programme some time ago showing the original photos (of models) and then explaining how they were photoshopped. Of the ones posted above, I distinctly remember the top left one and the two in the bottom row.
butler_helen
photoshopping is easy with the right photos... I look damn good as a size 8 it would seem. or so photoshop says... wish I had the images I made. oooh and the colour of teeth is also commonly changed.

And the slim bashing goes on. Yes Kiera Knightley is a slim girl, but anorexia will eat away at muscle as well as fat.

Spot on Katrina. I noticed that picture. She's a perfectly healthy weight - for her: look at her legs. Nicely shaped. Anorexics don't have legs like that.

I would check with the nearest doctor to see if your thyroid glands are working properly or if you have some microbes/worms in your digestive system.

Seriously ohmy.gif can you recommend some quick solution that won't require visiting a doctor (like some out of the box medicine or test machine) or something of that sort?
butler_helen
as depressing as it is, there are loads of people I know who just can't gain weight. Which according to the wonderful *cough* doctor *cough* Paul Mckenna is because of what they eat and when they eat it.
Lifeisabuffet
@Bandu, I believe only the docs do those tests in Germany.
Bandu
@LAB - Thanks. But I guess there should be a different species of those doctors. Not all of them would be able to do that, do they?
BadDoggie
It's a load of bollox. If people really wanted to see big women and if they actually drooled over them, you can be sure that magazines and posters would feature nothing but. It's the rarity of such a body form coupled with a society which could stuff its gourd if it wanted to (and so many do) which heighten interest in such women's figures. In places where food is scarce, a big woman is much more desirable, though often considered a sign of wealth since it takes a lot more food to keep her that size.

woof.

@ Bandu

Assuming you are otherwise healthy it's unlikely you're suffering from any metabolic or parasitic problem. You're most likely a naturally skinny person.

But just do a direct comparison.
Who is the most attractive woman here?
Keira or Kelly

As much as I hate to admit it, there are some who can sling a sentence or two together in a far better way than I can. This from a friend of mine...

I don't mind a girl with a few extra pounds, but I don't prefer it. I would always choose sleek and slim over thick and chunky. However, I would usually also choose getting laid over not getting laid.

My line is like this. If she's so fat I wouldn't even speak to her or want to be friends with her, then I won't sleep with her. If I'd be willing to be seen talking to her, then I'll probably sleep with her.

Righter, they are both very much real women. One's build for speed, the other for comfort.

So if this your friend's main rule, he'll hump fat girls if he can get a lay with them.
cinzia
What it comes down to is, people need to stop confusing fashion models with role models.
Jules Winnfield
Good point, but it's difficult for them not to be when they really are everywhere, not just on runways.

I'm confused, I thought humping was the same as getting a lay. Anyhoo, I think whatever you mean, the second bit clarifies his stance on the subject.
RedReitenHood
Somebody posted something on here that I thought was hilarious. Something along the lines of "if you have to turn up the radio [because of her thigh size] then she's too big".

On a more serious note, models have to make the clothes look good. Hence why they are called glorified coat hangers. But some of the young things that are parading down the runway these days just look sick. If you can run a truck through the middle of their legs, that can't be very good thing either.
butler_helen
surely figure isn't everything, someone who is stunning but a bit chubby is going to get further than someone who is butt ugly but sleek and slim?
Lifeisabuffet
Yup Keydeck, that's what I meant.
Keydeck
Lifeisabuffet, I don't think he considers fat girls at all.

QUOTE
That's right. I don't even talk to fat people. I don't even see them as people really. It's the same for the apes with a lot of tattoos or piercings or just uglies. I won't talk to them either. It'd be like talking to the animatronic Abe Lincoln at the Hall of Presidents at Disney, only less cool.
arshoo
clarify that, with a hot bod you can cover the face and/or ignore it.l with a fat (not chubby, but fffat) bod its pretty difficult to just concentrate on the face!

So, the question is, if the runway was actually a conveyor belt moving at the same speed as they were parading, would they then be role models ? huh.gif
Keydeck
And if they fell over would they be roll models?
Yeti
@Keydeck

I call photoshopped on that, the hair is wet at the top of her head and dry over her shoulders, plus the bikini bottom doesn't match the top.

You'll have to get up earlier than that my friend.
persik
@Keydeck- that's an unattainable standard x2! Not only do you have to starve and diet, but you also have to shell out for a boob job tongue.gif

Kiera Knightley thought so too - she's now sueing the Daily Mail over the allegations.
BadDoggie
Nobody's forcing advertisers to use skinny models. They use 'em because companies sell more shit using hot, skinny chicks than they do with plain-janes and fatties. Full stop. There's no conspiracy to starve the shit out of the public although there IS a conspiracy to make women feel bad about themselves: fashion and women's magazines all do their utmost to make women feel inadequate because their advertisers sell "solutions" to such inadequacies. The stories are mostly fluff with a few about getting a better sex life / boyfriend / eyebrow arch. It's all about creating myths to make women feel like they're missing out and then giving them hope... which costs €2-5 per issue and rakes in €50bn a year in advertising.

Dove's exception to using hot chix works only because no one else is doing it. They're bucking the trend and getting warm fuzzies from women who can breathe a brief sigh of relief about their own perceived inadequacies (and if you think normal women feel bad about themselves, you oughta hang out with a model for a day). By when they go out that night with their Dove soap-washed skin slathered in Dove moisturiser, you can be damned sure they're shoving their feet into too-small shoes and wishing there was an easy way to get rid of 5kg.

woof.

Do those who employ models have a duty of care not use those who may be under weight by WHO standards? As almost every other measurement of a model is made, checking their BMI doesn't seem to be that much of an extra burden.
BadDoggie
So you encourage discrimination of women based on their size. And, of course, only the those UNDER a certain BMI. If you want to be consistent than discriminate against those over a certain BMI as well. Actually, discriminate more because those are the fuckers who take up their seats and half of mine and expect me not to say anyting about it.

Keira Knightly is only one example of a serious ectomorph. A look at her legs shows you she|s not anorexic, she's just skinny as hell. Women want to look like her. Most can't ever without starving themselves literally to death, but the mere fact that other women want to look like her has led to a very lucrative career. And you'd take that away not because of anything she's done wrong but because of how others think and feel about her.

woof.

If I look at Keira's build, I would say she is probably a runner. ph34r.gif That's what happen to your body when you run a lot, no shit.

Is that wilfully misinterpreted or just not reading the post properly? Does an employer have a duty of care to not put employees into situation that can exacerbate a medical condition?

The same would apply to a jockey with a too low BMI.

I am a bit confused as to what men (and women) think qualifies as "fat" these days. Monica Bellucci is an American size 8. By the "celebrity standards" in North America and the UK, where women believe they need to be a size 2, she would be considered "fat". I find that unbelievable. No wonder Ms. Bellucci says she isn't interested in American celebrity!

Who do you men find more attractive? Keira Knightly or Monica Bellucci? And is it the body or the face that makes one more beautiful than the other?

MajorBummer
If I remember correctly, they introduced a minimum weight for professional ski-jumpers. People were starting to claim that the participants were anorexic. Article can be found here.

And an Italian behind (since this thread is about Italian models..) This is also Monica
edit: and yes Parnell, she is a size 8..and that is beautiful! How big do you think a size 8 is?

There is no fucking way this is a size 8:

Oleron
it depends, if she is not very tall, a size 8 sounds good for her curves...
