I would be interested in attending anything, my DH can't sit still for long enough for us to enjoy an Opera, so my TT group will have to pick up the slack. I've never attended an Opera during my time in Europe. huh.gif

Keep me in the loop. Thanks!

Another month has gone by. Any news yet regarding this coveted evening?

..seems to have died...BelltheCat has gone very silent on it. For 23rd April I'd guess thee's no chance of getting tickets now anyway. Shame..

Last night I saw, 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia' by Rossini. wub.gif Excellent save the tenor who got drowned out on multiple occasions. Definitely whetted the apetite for some more Opera and helped me brush up on my Italian (although there were subtitles in German - of no use to me rolleyes.gif ).

okay, based on the suggestions above (and the dates I will be here in Munich) these look to be the selection of recommended operas (below). All fairly accessible for people new to opera, although some might be harder than others. What I suggest is that people reply to this with which of the following they would like to do and when we know the most popular opera, I can then make enquiries and set up a sign-up sheet.

Die Fledermaus (Strauss) - Feb 20th

Billy Budd (Britten) - Feb 23rd/ 1 March

Barber of Seville (Rossini) - March12

Rigolletto (Verdi) - March 20, 23, 26

Parsifal (Wagner) - April 1

Fidelio (Beethoven) - April 3, 10

Carmen (Bizet) - April 12,14

Marriage of Figaro (Mozart) - April 15, 18,21

Tosca (Puccini) - April 22, 25, 27

La Traviata (Verdi) - April 23, 26

I saw Rigolleto last night and it was absolutely fantastic. The crowd near were I was sitting was yelling bravo! after every performance and the set design production was great. Twas totally taking the piss out of the schiky micky crowd biggrin.gif.

Wow Oma. Can't believe that someone actually liked the Rigoletto. I, for one, am glad that it won't be back next season but am glad you had fun sticking it to the fuddyduddys.

For the other shows, I could recommend the rest of your list:

Parsifal (Wagner) - April 1
Fidelio (Beethoven) - April 3, 10
Carmen (Bizet) - April 12,14
Marriage of Figaro (Mozart) - April 15, 18,21
Tosca (Puccini) - April 22, 25, 27
La Traviata (Verdi) - April 23, 26

Check the dates though. I know that there are several Parsifals and Fidelios- all this week for example.

Cool, we are seeing Marriage of Figaro in late July. I am out of town again until the end of May, but after that I should be around, and up for stuff to do.
