Natalia
Shaggy, have you booked the table by the way? Because I just got an info from another list that in the very same place will be Finnish Stammtisch at the same day at the same time.
Crawlie
And if you ask the Finnish Stammtisch if you could join the table they are at and conduct the german Stammtisch , do you have to ask in Finnish or German?
Shaggy
Natalia- as above, yep... MG booked it.
madgibson
@Natalia
As Shaggy said, I reserved the table yesterday - mind you I don't think we'll be needing 15-20 places as only 6 people have signed up! Will maybe reduce the numbers tomorrow if necessary.
Shaggy
Kats, Richm and Pepper will also be there.

Always a few extra lurking or sign up at the last minute wink.gif

Katja will also be there, and I may be a plus 1, need to check schedules.

Elfenstar
that turned out to be a great gathering. but it was damn difficult to keep those tables reserved. at first the tables were taken, but gotten back, but by 8.15, i nearly told the waitress to take the lot. luckily I didn't, becaues people began showing up one after the other. all but 2 reserved places were taken up in the end. café puck is popular!

the weirdest thing was talking to a brit (erm pepper) in german! i understood you better mate than when we talk english. *heh heh*.

g'night.
Shaggy
Yep, good point. It's not problem if people are gonna come later but best to drop that into the comments.

Next gathering will be on the 20th April as easter will get in the way.

Any suggestions for a location??
Elfenstar
(i didn't find a listing of all previous locals, just previous attendees).
  • Café Beethoven near Goethplatz? That's a popular cafe, nice too.
  • Café Westend (Schwanthalerhöhe U-Bahn). They also have a pool table and a kegel alley. Did breakfast there once.
  • Café Mozart (Pettenkoferstraße? Close to Sendlingertor -- off of West Sonnenstraße). Had a few drinks there.
Unfortunately am on vacation, but will do next time when I am in town.
Shaggy
Next Event is this Thursday...

Thur 20th 19:30
Café am Beethovenplatz

Goethestrasse 51, (in between Goetheplatz UBahn and Hauptbahnhof)
Isarvorstadt, Tel. 089 54404348

This is a really great location...often have jazz etc playing.

If you fancy joining then pls use the sign up. If you are likely to be later, just make a comment as it saves trying to fight to keep the table open ph34r.gif
Shaggy
Will book a table for 10 under "Toytown Stammtisch". Anybody else wishing to join, pls sign up by 4ish.

Cheers.
madgibson
As Shaggy is out of town for the next Stammtisch (4th May) I am organising on his behalf! Will post time and location ASAP.
madgibson
Time is 19.30 as usual. Nearest U-Bahn station is Fraunhoferstr.(U2) or S-Bahn Isartor.

@smartini
I've met you before so how come you've just moved to Munich? Anyway, see you Thurs.
Small Town Boy
(edit)
madgibson
So, any takers for the German Stammtisch this Thurs. - it's looking a bit bleak so far wink.gif So, are Darth Vader and Princess Leah making an appeareance on their special day? Please use the sign-up page at the top of the thread if you intend to come along.
oli2000
I plan to be at Burg Pappenheim around 7:30pm, possibly earlier.
smartini
Hi,

I will also be coming, will probably get there between 7:30 and 8pm.

How do I find you/Toytown ?
madgibson
I'll probably be there a bit before 7.30 myself. It's only a small place so you'll spot us easily - there's a raised area on the left as you go in - that's where I've reserved the table!
Shaggy
Beer Garden Weather means we'll start making some of the events outside again... this week 7pm Thursday (18th May)

at

Max Emanuel
Adalbertstr. 33, Schwabing
U-Bahn U3 or U6 to Universität
Tel. 089 2715158

This is a really nice little beer garden right in the heart of Schwabing. It can get very busy thus pls post by 3pm on Thursday if you can make it.

If the weather is bad, we'll be inside. Just ask for Toytown Stammtisch.
pepper
Sorry, I'm in Prague Wednesday Thursday, so will miss this one again. Ahh.. I never seem to be at home at the moment !
Shaggy
traveling a lot of recent eh. Be good to catch up for a beer soon.
Sidthespid
Just wondering... how do the 'absolute beginners' get on? Do they get ignored much?

Always wanted to go to this, but my German really is very basic. Very much like Manuel's English in Fawlty Towers. As much as I try, I always get the Germans looking at me, with their faces contorted, as though they're in pain.

Though the other day, a woman tried telling me that I was pronouncing 'sprechen' wrong (which I wasn't) and she proceeded to demonstrate how she thought it had to be said, as "spreshen". I think I need to memorise something horrid in German, for just such an occasion. Something like... "bugger off smelly"
pepper
There are normally all levels there, just come along and see how you get on. You will probably learn some new things, and generally its a nice relaxing evening with good people.
madgibson
@Sidthespid

Well, I wouldn't advise "absolute beginners" to come to the Stammtisch. Not that you'd be ignored but the point is to speak german with each other which is rather difficult if you're not in a position to converse even on a basic level. Have you done a german course?- why not try that first and then come along and try and improve your vocabulary. Or even better just talk to Germans - even if it's sometimes painful tongue.gif Otherwise the temptation at the Stammtisch is to speak English and then it defeats the point of coming.
smartini
I agree !

I am an absolute beginner (actually just started my first German lessons this week) and attended the German-speaking stammtisch last week, but was not able to follow any conversations. Unfortunately I had to revert to English which was not fair to everyone else that was there to practice German.

As a result I have decided to work on my German and perhaps try to attend in a few months when I can actually converse a little ! It will then be a lot more fun and productive.

Just my opinion !
madgibson
@Smartini
Hey, good luck with your German classes and hope to see you back at the Stammtisch showing off all your new phrases!!
