It's a real small place... just listen for the German or just ask the Barman if in any doubt.

Look forward to seeing you there...
Chalmondley Warner
On a small point of pedantry, remember when saying something like 'natives welcome', or 'last time there were lots of natives', that you need to specify natives of what? Natives of English or natives of German? Everyone is a native of somewhere.

A google image search on the word native brings up the following...

margret
A native of a country is someone who is entitled to vote in that country,
a passport holder.

I am the holder of a German passport.
I can vote here.
I cannot vote in the States.
Even though I am a native English sepaker.
I am a native English speaker even though I am a native German speaker.

Complex.
margret
Some people said to me they thought I only talk to advanced speakers in German. At Roosevelts I just sat down at the one table without a native German speaker, they happened to be advanced, that' s all.
In fact some are so advanced they could hold down a coversation
in German with others benefitting as well.
countrygirl
I'll be there.
Do we have any support from the native German speakers?
Hazza
I am not going to be working on Thursday night - and German is actually my first language...I grew up completely bilingual.

I'd be happy to join you and be one of the 'native speakers'´that night
canuck
Count me in...Ich habe fertig!
chewy
I'm gonna come and listen. it'll be the first time u guys see me quiet!!!
JoolyBooly
my God, it'll be a shame to miss that... tongue.gif

but worth it... I promise I shall practice my German during my french flight to spanish-speaking Cuba with my english sister... NOT!!!

@ Canuck, I suggest you sit next to a local, mate... I don't think there is any way to make "ich habe fertig" work...
ume
I will be there this time...
Arwen
i'll be there too! biggrin.gif
canuck
JB: If you're Ex-Bayern München coach Trapattoni, 'Ich habe fertig' will work perfectly...
JoolyBooly
Arwen, please help our little Canadian friend how to speak Hochdeutsch, and not Trapattoni-Deutsch... tongue.gif
Shaggy
Just to add some motivation-

Some of you may be really tempted to speak English so please please resist the urge...
anyone heard speaking a non German sentence has to buy a drink for the person who hears! wink.gif

For newbies who want to introduce themselves in English, I'll be there from 7pm.
Between 7.30-9am we'll only use German.

..and off course, Natives relates to Native language of the country we are in...
Blimeygirl
Tom and I will there...still in the Anfänger Ecke...*sigh*
chewy
Can we ring a bell at 9 so i can start to talk? wink.gif

rubber duck
I will be there.
Blimeygirl
@Butterbean

It's never too early to start speaking German hehe :-)

@Chewy...now I have that song stuck in my head 'You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell (my bell, ring-a-ling-a-ling)'
Shaggy
@BB

I think by 9pm there will probably be a load of regulars heading in hence the earlier start.

But we can sure extend if people are up for it... very flexible
VDB
shame to miss it once again, i'll be im ausland.

Would be nice to hear some TT people speak in their non-native language for a change, and experience what a poor Dutch guy like me has to do every day tongue.gif.
Shaggy
@BB- I just got Toasted...
I see... my am means pm... apart for you, Petal and Canuck who probably will be still at it as the sun comes up wink.gif
JoolyBooly
by the way, see Volkshochschule evening classes - Autumn 2004 for tips on the "Volkshochschule", the adult classes in Munich. They do German courses, and as it's essential for your work you can get them taken off your tax bill so they're effectively free (but check with your tax advisor first, in case they've changed the rules).

Registration is on 11th Spetember and the brochure is either online or available at all libraries.
persimmon
I'll be there.
Val
damn- have to cancel thursday- sad.gif
petal
Sorry - can't make it tonight. Hope you all have fun.
Hazza
Yeah - unfortunately I can't help you guys out tonight.

Next time I'll try though
Shaggy
Next event

7.15pm-9pm (cocktails €4.90 before 8pm)
Wassermann (Schwabing)
Herzogstr.82, 80796 München

For newbies who want to introduce themselves in English, I'll be there from 7pm...table reserved under Toytown Stammtisch. Between 7.15pm-9pm we'll only use German.

For an idea of numbers, pls post/Pm me if you can make it.
Blimeygirl
It is the day before we leave for Crete...any chance of making it a Greek Stammtisch?

Okay so German it is...we will be there...resisting the English-speaking urge :-)
chewy
OK, im gonna try and come, might even learn some german b4 hand this time!!! Ive started the BBC's online course now so if u need picking up from the airport, i can converse through that in german!!
Shaggy
@chewy. And you still managed to communicate in German for 1.5 hours!!
pepper
I'm in Rotterdam on Thursday 16th, but hopefully should be back around 8pm, and as it is really around the corner from my apartment, should pop in for a drink or two, and try to speak some German.
Arwen
i'll be there and most likely bring some german friends!
smile.gif
tartan
Great success last time. Will be there.

T-Rex
Shaggy, I managed to get in here! I will try to be there, however I have to check the date first. But my German is really good.
chewy
That thursday is also the day i get rid of the keys to my old apartment, and the night b4 my boyf gets here, so i can actually stay out past 12. (even if no one else does). Wow, no more cinderella!!!
Shaggy
Hey, welcome to Toytown T-Rex!!!

Your German level is debatable after a few beers wink.gif
pepper
Just added this to the Calendar.
T-Rex
Unfortunately I have to admit you may be right, Shaggy. Maybe I try drinking water if this helps..
pepper
I might not now be able to make it, well not till really late, as I found out my flight back from Amsterdam does not land in Munich until 8:30pm. I will try to get there, but not sure what time !
canuck
Ich müss üben...meine Deutsch.

(translation: I don't really want to go but I'm being forced to because of my realization that my German knowledge and language skills are not adequate anymore for even just a basic conversation.)

Does that mean they were at one time? And if so, what has happened? Not enough practice? Have the words fallen out of your head onto the rugby field? Has the mass amounts of beer consumption killed that part of the brain?

You're scaring me unsure.gif I thought once you learned it, it stayed in there.

I guess what you mean is that you have a passive knowledge and need to activate it...yeah...that's it...phew tongue.gif
pepper
No this is not the case, I find after learning certain words, then not using them for a long while, they are completely gone ! You have to keep using it to remember it !
Flutterby
I find that if I don't use certain words or phrases in a long time, I'll remember the the word itself, but forget what it meant. Though I've found that a good trick to avoid this problem is to create brand-new meanings for the words. Of course, this solution does create problems of its own... wink.gif
ellewood
i may come this thursday. probably more for the beers than the german though ;-)
pepper
This Thursday ? you mean next Thursday (16th) ?
persimmon
Had a great time last week. I'll be there on Thursday.
ellewood
ah schucks i guess i do mean next thursday!
AquaticMeringue
Any idea of the numbers so far?
Shaggy
circa 20 on conservative side...but maybe 30.
See who turns up wink.gif
