Hi, Guys
Can we make it again in Rick's Café - Wendl-Dietrich-Str. 5, 80634 Munich (U1 - Rotkreuzplatz / behind the
Kaufhof)? I remember in end of August we have made there one time, and it was really great.
Hi, Shaggy, can you help to make this for me, German-speaking Stammtisch on Nov. 1st. in Rick's Cafe. If this is fixed and necessary, I can reserve tables, etc.
Thanks/Eva

We had fun at our first stammtisch last time, but cant make it for another few weeks due to vacations. Highly recommend though for anyone considering going, and who want to practice their Deutsch. Nice group and a good mix of language skills.
See you all again in Dec! Viel spass!

want to make a vote, as I am feeling weekend evening and a little earlier is better for me, but would like to know what others are thinking...
so, questions are as below:
1. According to your idea, which day is better for you for the stammtisch?
2. To set up at which time is better for you?
my answers:
1. I would prefer Friday evening or Saturday evening.
2. I would say stammtisch starts at 7:00pm in winter and 8:00pm in summer.
See if any others are interested in giving an answer here?

In my experience Toytown meetups are better during the week – especially one with a 'learning' aspect like this one. People have their own social life at weekends and are also often away. Admittedly I've only ever made it once to this event even on a school night, but I don't think you'll get many people on a Friday or Saturday evening.

Mr K has a point there...if there's a quiz going on it'll be NOISY. Have set up the sign-up sheet for tonight anyway.

Nov 22 2007, 1:56 pm
Doh! Anyone have a suggestion for an alternative location? We could always do Molly's again, or we could do the Paulaner Brewery, I really enjoyed it there! Any thoughts?
prijks
Nov 22 2007, 2:56 pm
I'd be up for Paulaner. I'd primarily vote for making an executive decision soon, so people can get the word before too late.
i would come too, but i have to know where and when.
prijks
Nov 22 2007, 3:52 pm
When: 8 pm.
Where: still undecided, it seems.
If you can't check the forum later today, PM me your mobile # and I'll sms you once we've decided on a location.
I am also really keen to come tonight but I find the idea of changing the location each time a little frustrating. Why not find one place, central - to make it easy for everyone and have the Stammtisch always at the same place? The When and Where are therefore always set and its just a case of getting oneself motivated to head out on a cold winter's night and turn up. Some may say "a little boring" but others may find it a lot more practical and we wouldn't end up with last minute location changes like this. Just an idea?!?

What was wrong with where it was last time -
Molly Malones? That seemed all right - they had a corner for us all, and the food was ok (apart from the tragic uncooked chips incident). Is there a giant sport-event/quiz night clash there too?

There's been some discussion of at least limiting the number of venues we attend.
From my understanding, there've been complaints in the past about the choice of venue, including complaints about a lack of variety. Personally, I have no problem with picking just one spot and sticking with it. It'd be more in line with the concept of a Stammtisch anyway.
I doubt we'll be able to make such a decision before tonight, though...

I quite frankly like the idea of changing locations every time, so we newbies get exposed to different locations we may never have experienced, except that it should be set 3-5 days in advance. This week was a bit disorganized, but usually, the location, directions, and address, are all established well in advance of the date.

Nov 22 2007, 10:55 pm
I agree with Arch's point of view completely - this week was only "disorganised" because Katja was away! She does an excellent job of organising.
Hi, okay next german stammtisch will be coming Thursday the 6th 8pm at
Molly Malones,
Kellerstrasse 21. We have been a really nice group the last few times, so it would be great if some of you can make it. I know christmas time is always a bit stressfull. Newbies and Beginners are welcome! Katja

Stupid question - if the rule is that all conversation must be in German, how do the "absolute beginners" manage to integrate into the group?
Perhaps the key to this is understanding what is meant by the term absolute beginner in this context:
- I would categorise myself as an absolute beginner, I can deal with standard greetings/introductions/farewells and I know a few words BUT I'd be completely stumped with anything approaching a normal conversation. Partially this is because the grammer is so complicated (and completely illogical) and partially this is because of my limited vocabulary. How would somebody of that level be able to join in and develop their German without breaking the rules and basically funding everyone's drinks all night?
JG
For the Beginners its a good start into German. Of course they cant have a whole conversation in German. Anyway, okay so who else is up for the stammtisch? It would be great if you can sign up till Thursday 3pm, Thanx! Katja
@JG
you could always try whispering or by talking that much shit that nobody wants to listen what you have to say anyway, that way you dont have to fund everybody elses tab all night, well it worked for me anyway!
If you can't talk all that much, then you just wind up drinking a bit more, which isn't all that bad. Also, ich bin wahrscheinlich dabei. bis denni.
