Don't know if anyone was around in the early hours this morning but Nintendo have been promoting the launch of their new console by taping off large sections of the Innenstadt.
"Wii move you".
Lots more pics here:
Wii guerilla marketingThe campaign is apparently Germany-wide, they have also taped-off the bridge in Köln, the Brandenburger Gate, and the Rieperbahn in Hamburg.
Quite innovative I think, but not sure what the police/city authorities are going to say about it...

I haven't been back to the innenstadt yet this morning but I'm guessing it all will have been removed by now...
Gonna need all the help they can get to shift that rubbish console!!!
Xbox 360 R U L E S !!!

I'd probably have a Wii and I'm not even a gamer.

WII and PS3 will be like hotcakes. Xbox360 will be left on the shelves real soon. I am really glad that nintendo did not strive to be the next gen as now i am all ready to accept PS3 with open hands.
@ Mrs Peel-- yes it is true that Wii can be accepted even to the non gamers and that is the reason they are selling like crazy.
Just look at this european launch adv forget about that cheesy tape

Wii is going to be a hit, I will get one for sure. I want a 360 as well. I think the 2 systems compliment each other nicely as they offer something different from each other. Ps3 is just to darn expensive and Sony's antics this past year has turned me away from it.
The real battle will be between the 360 and the PS3 as they both offer more or less the same thing. My prediction is many will get the wii and a 360 OR Ps3.

They taped off the Eisenersterg in FFM too - Was very confused walking to work yesterday.
I actually think they have done some very clever marketing with the Wii, it seems to be a more family oriented console. I depise consoles generally, but the more I see of the Wii the more I think about getting one

I believe that most Wii purchasers are new to the video game market. Their eyes will be opened to the possibilities of gaming and they will leave their recently purchased Wii after a year and move on to bigger consoles. Therefore, all Wiis sold = a few months of gaming, a few months of regret for not purchasing something else, and a few months of saving up for a bigger console = more profit for Xbox, PS3, etc.
Here's a great ad, if you haven't seen it already. It is safe for work but YouTube has flagged it as innapropriate for some users.

Nah, I don't think so. I think it's true that it will draw a lot of new people. But I have been buying videogames for years and still want the Wii more than a graphically superior XBox or Playstation. I was at some friends of mine recently and we even played on the Atari and had a good time!

I am not new to gaming, but I want a Wii as it seems more fun and accessible... if I want to "game" for long periods of time then I use my luvverly super specced PC for it

I disagree with profundo as well. Alot of gamers that i know have also left their console collecting dust regarding which brand it is. Some people here are just biased against certain console and i find that it is time we stop comparing especially when we know the fact that Wii is not the next gen machine. Wii s truly a nintendo product as they are known for being family entertainment.
Which one would you consider an ultimate game or machine? The one that has jaw dropping graphics and has gameplay like crap or those ones which are acceptable graphics but with in depth game play. The game developer plays an important role in the overall results i guess. Personally i find Gamecube's Resident evil and also The newest twillight princess: Zelda really enjoyable or even Mario as i could play it over and over again.
If non gamers and also people who dispise video consoles also give Wii a second look. I would say Wii is Super hot this Xmas!

Totally, I have been a gamer since the 80's and I am definitely a hardcore gamer. I spend a lot of my time playing games, and I am excited for the Wii because its something new and refreshing.
Just look at the handheld market, you have the PSP with superior graphics, against the DS with inferior graphics, but the dual screen touch interface. Now the PSP is a great system, but the DS is just selling like crazy, beating the PSP 4:1 in sales. I think we will see this same pattern with the Wii. Lets face it they are cheaper, appeal to more people, etc. I still want the other systems like crazy, but when it comes to a decision it will be between getting a 360 or a PS3.

I have an XBOX360 and a Wii, and Id have to say the 360 is better as far as hardcore gaming goes. waayyyyy better. but the wii is much much better for casual gaming. heck, even my GF who hates gaming plays the wii sometimes.
