ISDN vs. analog phone connections

Advice on which to choose

I just received Arcor ISDN/DSL internet/phone service. They allow for either an Analog or ISDN phone with their system. Which should I get? What's the advantage of an ISDN phone? Is there anything special you can do with these that you can't with an Analog phone??

Is there a website somewhere that describes some of the advantages over the Analog phone?

Also, which phone is best?

Thanks!

search, blood search. This website has some useful tips.

Yes, even after searching I didn't really get the answers I needed.

The phone, by the way, that I bought was Swiss Voice. They really have great products that support English and German languages and their manuals come in both languages. No need to download the book over internet, etc. The phone was easy to use and just great! We got the model that included a digital answering machine, handset and another extra phone. It was perfect. You can change the phone number that these phones use so easily. So my wife can go into the phone's menu and change the number it uses without even thinking much at all. You enter the numbers when you first install the whole thing and then the numbers are named "User 1" and "User 2" and you simply switch the user when you want to change.

Anyway, I would definitely recommend ISDN phone! Really nice quality and worth the extra money for the nice features it came with.

My analogue phone does most those things. Is it really worth paying an extra €50 every year for ISDN?

It's horses for courses. If you need/want more than one number then ISDN is the only economic way to do it. Can't see much value in managing different numbers for domestic use on the same handset though. Better for use with a telephone exchange so different extensions have the different numbers (for fax or business numbers or so kids can have their own phones and numbers (and bills!))

Plus ISDN has all the cool features like Call Forwarding,3Way Calling, Caller ID, Etc. Most Analog phones don't support these features, or make it as easy to use as ISDN, instead you must learn * codes. (But not Always). ISDN is only like 3-5 Eur more per month, why not pay the diff. and get the all the cool features..

Not true!

I have an analogue line and still can do Call forwarding.. ISDN is 9€ more and the Equiptment is in general more expensive.. dry.gif

Do you have a separate Analog PBX box that does this feature +more? How much was it, cause I doubt T-Com gave it to you for free.

ISDN Equip is a bit more expensive if you buy it new. But you can always look on TT or even Ebay. Lots of cheap ISDN kit around.
AND if your a new ISDN cust. and sign-up in Saturn,Mediamarkt, or T-Punkt they usually have special offers for 1-5 Eur for an ISDN Phone
if or doing a new contract. The last time I signed-up for ISDN I got an ISDN base station Phone and 1 Handy, for around 80 Eur. Using
these deals..
