Where to buy this drink in Germany

Ok, my wife and I have always enjoyed black sambuca drink in New York and other areas of USA. I come to Munich and I cannot find it ! I only see the white sambuca and Germans give me a laugh or a weird look when I even mention black sambuca. My sister has a bet with me that I won't find it in Germany! This just can't be!!!

If anyone has a suggestion of where to find a bottle of black sambuca I would be really appreciative!

Thanks in advance,
John

i haven't a clue as to what you're talking about, but probably others will be helpful and know
Moonboot
have also never seen it here, we drink it a lot in London.
anyone ever seen Black Tequila here? a South African friend of mine used to bring bottles of it over here for me but he's gone back home now sad.gif

You can get Black Salmiaki vodka in Finland, but never seen it here- you can also make it yourself. A bottle of Vodka and tons of little Black Salmiakki licorise, leave it 24 hours and you got it.

I've seen it at Karstadt. If they have it I am pretty sure Kaufhof has it as well. And there is always the possibility of ordering it online. Try kochversand.de.
BadDoggie
Kaufhof, Karstadt, Hertie (gourmet), and Metro all have it. The bar owner accidentally bought a bottle of it instead of the normal stuff.

woof.
jwadleigh
BadDoggie - you are saying its available at the major department stores?? I went to AEZ for example, and they only had regular white sambuca and this other cafe sambuca (white sambuca with espresso infused). Are you sure it's at these places??
Showem
Try the ones downtown. They likely cater to a bigger and trendier market than the ones in a suburban mall.
jwadleigh
Ok - will do - I'll let you guys know what I find. I have OEZ next to me at work - I will try there first.

try this one

Ok I went to Karstadt in OEZ mall and all I saw was the white sambuca and this thing they call "Sambuca Caffe" which looks similar to black sambuca but not sure if its just a new label/marketing or if its a different product entirely?

Here's the photo...

Try the Kaufhof at Marienplatz - it probably has a bigger selection.

Caffe sounds like coffee to me, not aniseed, but you'd have to look at the ingredients (aniseed - anis)

Sambuca caffe is a different product from black sambucca. It is, as its name alludes to, coffee-flavoured sambuca. blink.gif

I was once told that black sambuca is actually quite a recent invention, from maybe 20 years ago, if that. Probably the most common brands are Opal Nera and Romana Black, though Molinari must, surely, produce one too.

If Kaufhof/Karstadt don't stock it, you could try an Italian grocery store, though you might argue that last suggestion is not entirely in the spirit of your bet. wink.gif
jwadleigh
The best simply is that I cannot find it in Germany. smile.gif If there's an Italian grocery store - tell me where to find it and I will go there! Whatever it takes.

I assumed the caffe was different of course but you just never know sometimes. Molinari does make a black sambuca but I cannot find it on their website. Anyway, we are used to Romana Black in New York.

I will check the Marienplatz and let you all know.

Feinkost Spina is the biggest Italian supplier in Munich, you can find it in the Industriepark in the north of Munich. The website is www.spina.de. Don't know if they do Black Sambuca though, you'd have to check.
jwadleigh
Ok I called the Italian supplier (Feinkost Spina) and they kept referencing Sambuca Caffee being the black sambuca.. and I kept saying to them "Nein, die swartzer sambuca". In my attempt of German of course! So I don't think they have it either. I even asked specifically if they had Opal Nera and they did not have that either. Crap!
koala
I've just looked through the Käfer's site and they don't appear to stock the stuff either.
jwadleigh
Another update... I checked Hertie in Hauptbahnhof station and they didn't carry black sambuca either! Only white sambuca.

I will be in the city tomorrow night - my last attempt at Karstadt or Kaufhof... (crossing my fingers)

Hi all out there,
I'm looking for Romana Sambuca, (white) in the Hannover area.
Been here 11 months now.
I read with interest your postings on the subject of Black Sambuca, but they are going on for 12 months old now.
Are there any updates on this tantalizing subject, Would like to find some for Christmas if poss..
Went back to UK in June and couldn't find any there either, going back or a week in Jan. so will make another effort to find some there, if I cant get it here.

Black sambuca - aniseed flavoured liquor linked, why not. Just because the posts are a year old doesn't mean they're invalid. Have you tried the places listed in the other thread, where so many people said they found white sambuca - Karstadt, Kaufhof?
