Which is weird? Thoroughly confusticated. Fuck agendas, enjoy the spectacle, the Spartans digging their feet into the sand and then shunting forwards ensemble reminisces of Saving Private Ryan and the sheer pushfeck bravura of fighting for what needs to be done. Ach we're all little boys at the end of the day.

QUOTE (Pat Bateman @ Apr 2 2007, 12:21 am)

Its definetly a thoroughly fascist film.
Ya. A movie about Sparta vs. Persia is a bit like a movie about Stalinist Russia vs. Nazi Germany. It's hard to really cheer for either side, ya know? The only nice bit is that one side is allied with the Real Good Guys (Athens or US/UK, respectively) but I from what I gather reading about it, 300 is sort of like a movie about Stalingrad where Churchill and Roosevelt are portrayed as weak cowardly homosexual ninnies and Stalin's hung like a horse.
And just in time for a crisis with the modern Persia, too! Hey hey!
I guess I'm torn about it in the same way I'm torn about Riefenstahl. I can appreciate the visuals but abhor the politics. I just hope the same applies for everyone else, knowwhatImean?
(That PG version of 300 has me in tears, though. FROSTING!)
Cheers,

I get bored when movies have too much battle and too little plot/dialogue/character development.. there's only so many ways you can portray the adrenalin and violence of men trying to kill each other.
Or so I thought.
What a treat... that was pure cinematographorn, I loved it. I've found that most animated/CG movies capture human emotions, facial cues and quirks better than real-life actors do and this one has the perfect mix of both. The camera effects are beautiful, gorgeous lighting and shading, the violence is stunning rather than sickening and it seemed there was a visual feast in almost every scene. Some brilliant lines and I liked the narration with attention to detail too.
Definitely a keeper, I'm making room on my shelf for it already.

yes! yes! yes!
i really loved the cinematography, the slow-down-speed-up style in the fight scenes, the choreography of the spartan soldiers as they pushed and fought the enemy. visually it was stunning. ah, I'm a simple girl and i do love these kinds of surrealistic/stylish films. oh and those abs...erm, yes the dialouge was a bit thin, but i liked the narration by "faramir" from LOTR. i forgot how big his nose was!

i'm sorry, i have to add a few of the things i found when i googled "gerard butler abs"

Gerald Butler is an incredible specimen of manhood in this flick heavy with PG-rated beefcake. I found my eyes drawn to Butler's abs, pecs, arms, legs and pretty much everything else whenever he was on screen. Even his leather pouch over his package looked impressive. His relatively quick ass shot comes early in the film when he's standing outside his bedroom overlooking the horizon. It's so hot. He goes into the bedroom to seduce his wife and gives us a good look at his naked leg and hip, although frontal is safely hidden from view. Oh well I wasn't expecting that much icing on this beefcake. Very impressive.
QUOTE
Butler went through excessive training to gain muscles, and we can tell. Not only from his busted pecks or rippling abs, but we can tell by his juicy, meaty ass. If you thought a red cape and a loincloth on this man was hot enough, wait for this scene. Butler stands stark nude for a good 10 seconds until the camera cuts to him from the waist up (which is delicious, nonetheless.) The rest of the scene resumes to be arousing; first, sitting on the edge of the bed where his penis is deliberately lit in the dark, teasing us endlessly. Finally, Butler and co-star Lena Headey perform sexual intercourse, confirming ourselves that we would do anything to be Headey at this moment. What rates this scene 3 stars rather than 4 is that we don't get to see his penis. Unfortunetly.

Yeah,
I remember reading that the Spartan soldiers were all in homosexual relationships with eachother. Living in the barracks and only sneaking away to spend time with the wife for procreative purposes
From
wikipedia:
QUOTE
Poor knowledge on Spartan traditions is the result of Sparta's secrecy. Most modern theories are based on assumptions derived from ancient sources and parallels drawn between Sparta and contemporary Dorian Greek societies such as Crete. Some scholars assume that the custom of pederasty paralleled the mentoring relations between Spartan males and adolescent boys, common in Dorian societies. Some of the ancient scholars seem to have supported an opposing view: Xenophon writes that Lycurgus efficiently managed to cultivate chaste pederasty in the Spartan society.[14] This however tends to be viewed as an attempt of praise towards Sparta, and not necessarily as a sincere remark. Aristotle also wrote that Sparta belonged to the type of military society that was based on heterosexual relationship, unlike other Greek states of his time. However, an examination of the historical details reveals that "references to particular homosexual attachments of Spartans are conspicuous even by Greek standards".[14] Cicero furthermore asserts that, "The Lacedaemonians, while they permit all things except outrage (hubris, referring here to homosexual coitus) in the love of youths, certainly distinguish the forbidden by a thin wall of partition from the sanctioned, for they allow embraces and a common couch to lovers.'[15] In antiquity it was thought that a youth was expected to find himself an older lover, and that pederasty, a social practice common throughout most of Greece, was especially so in Sparta, where the ephors fined any eligible man who did not have chaste relationships with youths.[16]

The guy who played Xerxes was recently in Lost as well, but got buried alive. I did not recognise him, at all.
His name is Rodrigo Santoro, a brazilian fella. He was also in Love Actually and Charlie's Angels 2...he seems to like to show off his torso. Mind you, a few years ago he did a pretty good job as a transvestite in "Carandiru", movie about a Brazilian prison.

I think it was considered normal in all cultures during that time to have a relationship to a teenage girl or a teenage boy. So a 50-60 year old guy would go marry or do something with a teenage child. Luckily now it's considered child molestation worldwide.

Why do Anglos like Gerald Butler and Russell Crowe portray Greeks and Romans??? Most real life Greeks and Italians are often dark complexioned. Greek men have large male organs

, Italian and Greek men are the only European men I would have sex with, other than that I went for black and I will never go back. Australian Croatian Eric Bana is an exception but he could pass for Greek or Italian.

I just saw this today and loved it.

It was beautifully filmed- even though the fight scenes were bloody, they weren't grotesque. The actors were easy on the eyes. It was a fantastic movie.
My favorite line was when Lena Heady said, "This will not be quick, you
