Concert: Geoff Berner and Daniel Kahn

Okay, so this is the concert I've had on my calendar since it was first announced. Geoff Berner is an accordion player from Vancouver who's self-described mission is "to drag klezmer kicking and screaming back into the bars" and "to make original klezmer music that’s drunk, dirty, political and passionate". He's playing Thursday night at Kaffee Burger (Torstraße 58/60, U2 Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz) with Daniel Kahn. The show starts at 22:00 and is presented by Shtetl Superstars, which is apparently some sort of compilation of "funky Jewish music from around the world" put together by Yuriy Gurzhy from Rot Front, who will also be DJing the after-party which will feature "Yiddish Swing vs. Klezmer Punk".

So anyway, who wants to join me there?

Sounds like fun! I'd love to come along, I'm not yet sure if I can make it though...

Are you already meeting up with others before somewhere else, or directly at Kaffee Burger?

(Oh and as a quick introduction, hi, newbie here - new to this forum and to Berlin, been here only 2 months. I come from Italy via Ireland. I look forward to meeting other English speakers as my German isn't up to proper conversational levels yet, to put it mildly!)

Hey Moni! I don't know if John ("jtw") is coming along since Kaffee Burger is located in Mitte, but some of us TT people will meet up in Prenzlauer Berg tomorrow night at 8 PM (see this link: Thursday night drinks in Berlin). Oh, and welcome to TT.

Yeah, unfortunately I think it's an either/or thing, since the show at Kaffee Burger starts just a couple of hours after the meetup, and it's a few U-Bahn stops away. Still possible, but I'm skeptical about my ability to run out of a 20:00 meetup by 21:30.

1 1/2 hours isn't too bad! And you could tell people to kick you out by 9:30 pm, so you'd make it to the show...

I'd love to come along the meetup in Prenzlauer Berg as well, but I am supposed to be at my evening German class until after 9, last one before the holidays yay, so if I don't manage tonight I'll try and come along another Thursday.

Well the show at Kaffee Burger started just a little later than scheduled, like oh I don't know one or two hours late ;-) so there would have been time for both things, but anyway, the concert was really good and a lot of fun, and it was very nice meeting John & Tobias.

Good to hear you had fun with the boys! You should definitely come along next week if you can! It was absolutely great at "The Bird" last night (when I left at 12:45 am there were still TONS of people there - I felt soooo lame! Hehehe.)!
