The Nokia N95 comes close, but it really needs a slightly bigger screen.
Then you are willing to carry a huge montior with you, as this phone has one of the largest screen in market so far.

As I said, at very least, it has to be a higher resolution..

I have a new TV remote. Colour Touchscreen. Nice in theory but nowhere near as easy to use without proper buttons. It does have "some" buttons thankfully to the side, but overall I would have been happier with all regular buttons. I suspect Apple phone will be the same.
We're hoping that Apple have something up their sleeve regarding the touchscreen. As so many touchscreen devices work well, are just not as good has a hardware equivalent.
The Nokia N95 does stand out as ideal phone. But It is still a bit bulky in the depth. The superslim Samsungs and even the Nokia E65 are much less bulky.
Remembering that different people have different needs. And Nokia for example have a stupidly wide choich of "similar" phones, it seems likely that Apple will bring a out quite a few varieties of the iPhone. And typically, the 3rd version will be the one to get, after they have ironed out the bugs and tuned in to the needs of the market.

I think the N95 size wise is fine, if anything I wouldn't mind it a bit wider to fit a bigger screen there. Some people might care about the size, but as you say, there are plenty of super slim phones on the market for them. This Apple phone is going to be 1cm wider, and almost 2cm longer than the N95, so it's not going to appease any "small phone" people there.

The Nokia N95 is noticably bigger in all dimensions than the E65 while the screen only has the same resolution. (drifting off topic though)

I liked the Daily Show interview of someone who actually reviewed/used an iPhone. Looks like $599 for an overhyped phone with a slow internet connection and many faults, with an iPod built in.
Goodie... let me sign up to get one in about 3 years after they work 500 bugs out of it...

Although it's easy, and indeed superior feeling, to be cynical… all the reviews I’ve read say terrific things. The EDGE network is slow, but not much Apple can do about that, just use WiFi instead for your browsing.
I think the nerdy types, like myself, often miss the point of the Apple products. Hence the famous /. Review when the iPod came out: “No wireless, less space than a nomad, lame. We miss the point because a product's worth isn’t simply an objective listing of technical features, then declaring the winner… it is about user experience, ease of use, and how the product integrates into your life (and not the other way around).
On those marks, just like the iPod was under-featured compared to its competition, so is the iPhone, but that isn’t its point… time will tell if it becomes the success the iPod is.
Personally however, I’d really like if it had GPS, and an open API for developers.. but then again, I’m a geek.

I like the phones physical design and it's UI. But from the reviews I've read I don't think it's great from a functional point of view. Very good review of it
here. The email app is very disappointing, you can't even sync with your PC which is a must. It won't be replacing my windows phone just yet.
Also I see T-Mobile are rumoured to announce exclusive rights today for Germany!

These phones don't do MMS
Yeah, but come on, nobody ever ever uses MMS.
I totally want an iphone as a new tehcy toy, but sadly, it really doesn't seem to do a great deal. Pretty finger flipping through album covers, and thats about it. PocketPC phones do loads more. There is the problem - Apple don't seem to be up for letting 3rd parties develop stuff on the phone, or releasing an API to the world for programmers to piss about. That's just silly. Like Sony - with the PSP, they've been battling against "evil hackers" developing stuff, because they're scared of people getting the magical ability to play pirate software - but they're missing the boat. People will develop decent, useful software. How can that be a bad thing?
The iphone battery is not easily replaceable either. It's glued in FFS. Glued. Why on earth? Everyone knows batteries simply die after a while...or is that the whole point? Can't replace the battery, buy the iphone version2. Woo.
I still want an iphone though.

I have to say, I'm very impressed with my N95, but the battery life is appalling. It needs charging nightly, and at least once or twice a week I have to charge it again during the day. I wish they had made the phone slightly bigger for a better battery (higher res screen would be nice too).

Apple is brilliant to have such a "fashionable" brand. Bloody fantastic frankly.
Just imagine the amount of free advertising they are generating with these products, that don't cost a penny in marketing spend. Makes me wanna weep with jealousy.
They do produce good quality products, but there is a lesson here for other companies. If you can manufacture great and interesting products, then you can spend much less
on your final marketing.
I am just starting on PR for my business here in Germany, and it's an interesting subject, although one I am happy to admit I am totally crap at. But hopefully I can also

And the fact that they can sell them at a considerably inflated price (compared to similar technology from other manufacturers), and people still buy them! If you are able to do that in this day and age, then you've definitely got something right.

Giffen Goods are very very interesting.
http://www.answers.com/topic/giffen-goodI have a product that I was "panicking" about on high stock levels last year. I tried dumping some stock on Ebay at a low/loss-leading price. Got no buyers and gave up.
Later had another go and added the products back on Ebay at our "normal" retail price - they sold just fine.
Price when I first tried to bin stocks was about £40 and the price when they really sold was about £100.
I tend to get more worried these days about "underpricing" my products than overpricing. I have to resist the gut reaction to drop prices as it seems to work against us,
by making the product seem lower quality.
Nuts huh?

While that is the case with some of their products, others are significantly cheaper than comparable technology from other manufacturers. Take a look at a Mac Pro and try configuring a comparable machine from one of the other major manufacturers for the same price. You'd be hard pressed.
IMO, whatever the Apple computer premium may be it is worth every penny for OS X alone. I discover something new and fantastic about OS X all the time and it continues to affirm my switch to Mac. I do dual boot/virtualize Vista when I have to, but only when I
really have to. Fortunately I think those days may be numbered as more and more applications are being developed to fill the few and far between gaps that used to exist e.g. I used to boot into Windows on my iMac to do firmware updates on the woman's Garmin GPS unit. Now Garmin makes a Mac updater.
Finally, I fucking love that Apple gives you a CLEAN, license-key free copy of OS X to install on your machine. Just unclick the bundled software during install and you've got a fresh bloat-free OS install. Every PC manufacturer I can think of (though there are probably exceptions) includes restore disks which just load a disk image on the drive, complete with gigabytes of absolute shit (besides the obvious Windows shit) that you'll never, ever need.

And if AT&T can sue for this so can the EU carriers due to release the iphone in Europe starting next month.
Part of the iphone deal is that carriers CAN NOT unlock the iphone, even after the contract is up. Now I don't
know if this is a US only thing (EU laws may counter this), but that would suck if EU carriers were forced into the
same contract clause. Thus making this Software a very hot ticket item..

$100,000 in cold hard cash for the right to freely distribute the iPhone unlocking software onto the Nets. Full credit given to the creator(s) of course with a proposed release date of Wed night at 12:00am (in some unspecified time zone). No details as to who is financial backing the offer or how payments will be made, only a single email address posted for discussing the details. Hear that UniquePhones and IPhoneSIMfree, here's your chance to make a buck and avoid a legal tussle with AT&T / Apple. Of course, anyone can launch a Blogspot site announcing pretty much anything they'd like. If nothing else, the move illustrates perfectly the demand for the software unlock to be released for general consumption. Let's hope it means more.

Apple's locked iPhones the subject of new class-action suitQUOTE
The Apple class-action party continues folks, this time featuring a disgruntled New York State customer named Herbert H. Kliegerman, who claims that the Cupertino giant failed to adequately disclose information pertaining to the "locked" nature of the iPhone and the roaming charges which might be incurred if a user was to take the device overseas. According to the 9-page suit, which was filed Monday in a New York Supreme Court, Kliegerman traveled to Mexico a few weeks after purchasing the phone, where he proceeded to check e-mails and make calls, blissfully unaware (or so the suit tells us) that AT&T would be charging international roaming fees for the usage. Apparently, when Mr. Kliegerman received his bill, he was shocked to discover $2,000 in the aforementioned fees. The suit argues that if he had been allowed to unlock the phone and use a foreign SIM card, the costs could have been avoided. As a result, Mr. Kliegerman is seeking a judgement which bars Apple from selling locked iPhones, plus an order for the company to offer unlock codes to all current owners.
That was quick...
Apple slashes 8GB iPhone price by $200QUOTE
Those 4GB iPhones just became collector’s items. Apple dropped the 4GB version of its mobile phone and slashed the price on the 8GB model to $399—$200 less than its introductory price.
Apple hopes that the price cut will spur sales of the mobile device it introduced in June. “We want to put iPhones in a lot of stockings this holiday season, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said at a press event in San Francisco Wednesday.
iPhone sales have been closely watched since Apple released its mobile phone to much fanfare on June 29. Back in July, Apple’s stocked slumped badly after AT&T announced iPhone activation figures that failed to meet analyst expectations.

Apple to offer early iPhone buyers $100 store creditQUOTE
After a day of outraged comments from early iPhone buyers who are upset about Apple’s decision to drop the iPhone’s price $200 to $399, Apple CEO Steve Jobs has posted an open letter on the Apple Web site and said that Apple will offer a $100 store credit.
