A reader of Bild Zeitung said he was "shocked" recently when he saw some Santa Claus models in shop window in Wernigerode (Saxony-Anhalt). Apparently the models look like they're doing a "Sieg Heil" salute. They're now being called the "Nazi-Nikoläuse" and the store has removed them from sale.

See the Bild article: Nikolaus macht den Hitler-Gruß.

Performing the Nazi salute is illegal in Germany. See related TT topics about those who were caught out: Berlin policeman suspended and Munich man sentenced to three years

Well, when you line them up all in rows like that it adds to the effect. ohmy.gif (leave it to the Build reporters for that spin)
I'm sure one Santa would be cute by himseft.

However, I stopped worrying about the whole Seig Heil debacle when I clicked on the NSFW photo in the article. smile.gif

One of these things made it on to this weeks Studio 60 episode. laugh.gif

Don't mention the war. I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it...

FIrst swastika buttons, now this. It doesn't even look like a Nazi salute - isn't that with the head bent down, and the arm stretched forward, not upward? Well, OK, I could understand it if the Santas were also wearing swastika armbands and chanting Nazi slogans, and being vigilant is one thing, but does anyone seriously believe that the Santas, or the buttons, are being distributed by some evil, right-wing extremist organisation? blink.gif

Well, the shop was in Sachsen-Anhalt, so who knows...? biggrin.gif

I just came across a report of a blogger who, while visiting Seoul, South Korea, discovered that an Apple representative outlet was selling hand painted Nazi toy soldiers. The guy's name is Alec Porter and he writes:

QUOTE
I was stunned to see these handpainted Nazi toy soldiers on display in the Apple store in Korea's biggest mall, in Seoul. It's not an official Apple Store, but it's certainly Apple's representative in Korea; everyone who shops for Apple considers that the place.
Korea is not known for being sensitive about the Holocaust or Nazi Germany. Perhaps they'd say the same about the west and how we're not very sensitive about Japanese Imperialism, and the horrors it inflicted on Asia. Still, this is pretty shocking.

Here's his blog with more photos: Apple, We Have a Problem

I have a Harris Tweed jacket with 'Swastika' buttons. I am delighted to report that, as yet, I have not been arrested.
