I would like to buy a pocket translator that can translate an english sentence into german as well as being able to translate single words from either language.
Anyone have a suggestion?
I know some of the Casio models are good but I don't think they translate sentences, do they?
Thanks!

Hi,
I thought about such a translator, but someone gave me an old Palm Visor PDA on which I installed one of the Slovoed dictionaries. Then I got hooked & bought a Palm TX which I now use not only for the dictionary, but also as an MP3 player, GPS plotter for navigating my sailing boat, video player, games console, ebook reader, organiser etc etc etc. I never thought I´d end up as such a Geek but its great.
So I cant really answer your Q properly, but I would suggest you at least think about a PDA, you can get one for a similar if not lower price than a translator & you can do so much more with it as well as dictionaries.
Must admit, dont know if you can get software to do sentences though, but its worth a thought.

Good idea, but I've always been against those PDAs. I have enough gadgets and the little translator would be nice so that I use it for just one thing, ya know? Also, I love how the translators flip open and you have a nice big keyboard to use. I definitely don't want to use this pen to enter all the text. Ya know?
Do they have PDAs that have this nice big keyboard with flip open?

If you’ve got a Symbian phone (e.g. Nokia 6600) then you can install SloveEd and not have to carry any extra hardware.

That's not a bad idea, but that phone definitely is not easy to type on. I prefer a nice keyboard like the normal translators provide.

Hi
Can anyone suggest a good electronic translater? I have looked at the Ectaco ones, but I see mixed reviews on their forum. Or is there good software for PDA'S? I am especially interested in good audio pronounciation...Thank you

Hi there, I don't know about the best translator, I'm afraid, but I can confirm that the Casio electronic dictionaries are really excellent.
I've had the EW-G2000 for about 4 years and it's still in really good shape (it's pretty robust). It combines the PONS German-English and English-German, the Duden Universalwörterbuch (German only) and the Oxford Advanced Learners (English only).
