WhiskyHammer
After speaking about this during the last series of tastings, I am now delighted to announce an evening of exceptional whisky and fine food.

Friday 15th December
Gallo Nero Restaurant at the Georgenhof Hotel, Markt Schwaben
19:15 Welcome and start.

Yesterday I spent some time with the owner of the restaurant, planning the evening. As usual we will enjoy six different whiskies, but in this case, they will be matched and served with specially created dishes to compliment the flavours.

We will have our own private dining room at the restaurant with no rush, no hassle, just a very civilised evening of fine food and some rather exceptional whiskies.
The price for the evening will be €45 per person including all whisky, food (4 courses), bread and water.

This event does have limited places and advance booking is necessary so I have asked Ed. Bob if he could possibly create a sign-up list for the event.
As usual, he has of course obliged (thanks Ed. B.) and I am assured that later today, The Sign-Up List will be fully available for you to register.

Camillo, the owner and head chef will create a menu just for our event which means I can list the dish styles according to our discussion, but this is still quite general as he will aim to surprise us with specific creations around these styles on the day.

The Evening:
19:15-19:30 Welcome.
Rosebank 1990 "Aged in Oak Casks for 13 years"

Bruichladdich "Waves", 7 years old
A slightly spicy dish without Garlic but including tomato (perhaps Bruschetta / Pizza Pane style)

Ardbeg 1993, 10 years old, Old Malt Cask - D. Laing
Full-flavoured smoked seafood (probably trout or salmon)

Glenmorangie Cotes de Beaune, 12 years old
A pasta dish flavoured with fresh ginger

Scapa 1993, Gordon & MacPhail
A chocolate / coffee based dessert of Tartufo / Tiramisu

Glenfarclas 1987 "Quarter Casks"

Espresso

I look forward to welcoming you to this rather different evening as we experience the matching of some exceptional single malts with fine Italian fayre.

Travel - How to get to "Gallo Nero" Markt Schwaben:

Gallo nero is a private restaurant within the Hotel Georgenhof in Markt Schwaben and is only 25 minutes by S-Bahn from Munich Ostbahnhof.
The restaurant is directly opposite the entrance to the S-Bahn station and is quite literally just 2 minutes walk from the doors of the (S2) S-Bahn.

It is located on the corner of Bahnhofallee & Bahnhofstrasse as per This Google Map.

Recommended travel is by S-Bahn - The S2 which runs from Munich to Erding.

Travelling from Munich:
The S2 leaves Hauptbahnhof every 20 minutes at 12, 32 & 52 minutes past the hour.
The 18:12 from Hauptbahnhof arrives in Markt Schwaben at 18:46
The 18:32 from Hauptbahnhof arrives in Markt Schwaben at 19:06

If travelling from Ostbahnhof, then the S2 leaves at 01, 21 & 41 minutes past the hour.
The 18:21 from Ostbahnhof arrives in Markt Schwaben at 18:46
The 18:41 from Ostbahnhof arrives in Markt Schwaben at 19:06

It is also possible to use the Regional Bahn (To Mühldorf) from Hauptbahnhof or Ostbahnhof as this stops in Markt Schwaben and is slightly quicker than the S-Bahn. (Sorry, I don't have the train times at hand for this).

Markt Schwaben is the last station within the boundary of the S-Bahn "XXL" ticket which may be the most cost effective way of travelling and this ticket is also applicable to the Regional Bahn if travelling from Munich to Markt Schwaben.

If travelling from Erding:
The S2 leaving Erding at 18:39 arrives in Markt Schwaben at 18:57
The S2 leaving Erding at 18:59 arrives in Markt Schwaben at 19:17

Getting Home - Munich direction:
The S2 leaves Markt Schwaben towards Munich at 17, 37 & 57 minutes past each hour until 22:57.
Then there is an S2 at 23:37
followed by one more at 00:17

Getting Home - Erding direction:
The S2 leaves Markt Schwaben towards Erding at 26 & 46 minutes past each hour with the last two trains being 23:46 and then 00:26

I now see that TT is automatically putting links into "Gallo Nero" (I suppose this will get linked too), but the link on TT refers to a different Gallo Nero (here we go again) to the one in Markt Schwaben.

The restaurant being used for this tasting is very open and is very good.

Aaarghhh... this topic really is suffering from link-itis.
Just to clarify further - we are NOT using the "N e r o" rstaurant linked in post #5 either!

But we will be at the Gallo-Nero in Markt Schwaben which is within the Hotel Georgenhof, opposite the S-Bahn Station.

Reserve your place today on The Sign-Up List

(Wondering how many more spurious links [s]uncle[/s] Ed. Bob can amass in this discussion
No, Ed. B. Don't answer that one )

Don't be shy, still looking for more people in order to run this event!

How about some of the Erding-based TT'ers? Markt Schwaben is not so far for you to travel.

BTC - If you are joining us, could you sign up please.

Rosebank 1990 - Murray McDavid
A Lowland, very flowery and light dram. A great Aperitif to start the evening.

Bruichladdich Waves, 7 years old
A young but rather excellent Bruichladdich. It has all the fruitiness of a more mature Bruichladdich, but with a great "tongue-tingling" spiciness that older examples just don't exhibit.
Just right with a slightly spicy tomato starter.

Ardbeg 1993, 10 years old, D. Laing "Old Malt Cask"
With its fullness of flavour and lots of peat, Ardbeg is the definitive dram to accompany full-flavoured seafood.
In this case, perfectly matched with a smoked seafood main dish.

Glenmorangie Cotes de Beaune wood finish
This Glenmorangie is not one fo their typical wood finish range. It is now a collectors item as it was a very restricted release of a few years ago.
Glenmorangie 'Cotes de Beaune' offers a very full and complex range of flavours which includes a sweet, creamy and herbal nose. The body is smooth and sweet and the palate comprises soft berry fruits and prunes with great flavour development which becomes spicy, almost like cinnamon. The late flavour or aftertaste, is one of ginger.
Perfect with a pasta dish flavoured with fresh ginger!

Scapa 1993
One of the most enjoyed whiskies of my earlier tasting(s). This Scapa has an immediate flavour of chocolate which develops into vanilla when just 2-3 drops of water are added.
What better to match a Chocolate dessert!

Glenfarclas 1987 Quarter Casks
This is one of my favourite whiskies of the last year, a perfect after dinner dram and one which I shall also be enjoying during the festive season this year.
Opening this bottle is like walking into an old English country house library or study.
Leather, wood, books and all things good.
Over time, the leather and wood recede and leave an excellent, rather full-flavoured sherry influence.
Perfect!
Served with coffee and an after dinner conversation.

I have been to one of these events! It rocks, I have to say to bad that I am already booked because it is great! If you have the chance go, you will learn a lot about whiskey and have a nice evening too.

Most people think whiskey as a strong drink, but you have a lot to learn!

Damn, can't you ever do this on a day that I can actually make it.
WhiskyHammer
Oh dear,
I have tried Tuesdays, Thursday, now Friday...

I do appreciate it is getting very close to Christmas and people have already made plans, but I will keep trying.
All events so far have been very well received and enjoyed, so once Christmas and New Year are over I will be continuing tastings until around April time.

Also, a reminder that anyone joining the Whisky Club not only gets a free 'joining' bottle (Currently Scapa, Bruichladdich Waves, An Cnoc, Arran, Bruichladdich Rocks, Clynelish, Glen Garioch or Jura!), but also 5% discount on all whisky purchases and ...

10% Discount on tastings!

What better reason to join the club and attend the tastings?
