Hello,
Anyone have experience with the Sky EPG planner? Sometimes it works for me and sometimes not. I set something to be recorded at the weekend and when I watched the next day I had a message on screen ten minutes after the programme started telling me that the programme had already started ten minutes before. Then it waited another two minutes before turning the channel automatically!?
A bit rubbish to be honest.
I went into the EPG, selected the programme, went into the planner and marked it with an A for Autoview. Did I do something wrong or is this a known bug? and if it is, is there a way to correct it?
I've got a normal Sky Digibox not Sky +. Any ideas what's going wrong?
Thanks,
Boba

Your EPG software may need an update...can you post what revision the software is...?
EDIT: but Grinner probably knows best...

It's a Sony 750 something or other and the software was only updated at the beginning of November when it was installed. I'll have a look at the software revision tonight and let you know.

Did you remember to select the auto-channel-changer?
Simply setting the reminder isn't enough, the Sky box also needs to be on the correct channel for the VCR to record the programme you want. This is why standard Sky boxes have the auto-channel-changer. IIRC, you have to press the red button after setting the programme reminder to tell the Sly box to automatically switch channels.
edit: sorry, re-read your post. It seems you did do that. oh well.

So I played with the box trying things out still with problems and have now got a new box (an Amstrad DRX550) with the newest software.
Now, I've tried to set it for a couple of programmes on BBC2 and it didn't work but one on BBC4 did - I left the box on standby each time.
When I leave it on it changes channel as it should do which the Sony box didn't so I'm happy with that.
Stupid question: Do I need to keep the box on or should it switch itself on when on standby? Sorry I ask but six years ago I never had this function and the instruction book is crap.
Non-Sky Digiboxes come with a normal time funtion.
Thanks, Boba.

if you got Sky+ you wouldn't have this problem at all...

I'm only interested in the free to view channels and not in paying 10 pounds a month for the privilige of recording on a box that I own so Sky+ is a no go.

SKY+ is the way ahead - but I do find it sometimes starts recording a fraction too late and misses the very start of the programme? Which I find quite surprising.

check your sky+ set up on the services menu. You can change the amount of time added to the beginning or end of a programme. Ihave mine on 1 minute at the start and automatic at the end and never have problems with missing the start.

Thanks - also got a nice PM on the same answer! Never thought that an adjustment like that was possible as I naturally assumed the whole thing was 100% intelligent, and somehow picked up a signal for the start of the programme (hence my confusion). But sounds like it is not quite so smart after all and works on a timer :-)
