Hi, I will be moving to Duesseldorf in the new year with my wife. We will be there for quite some time (a good few years) and I am therefore thinking about buying an apartment. Any advice? is this a sensible thing to do? I have heard that prices are good in Germany at the moment. Also does anyone know if there are any property auctions - I will have some time on my hands and have the skills so wouldn't mind picking up sonething that requires renovation. Also any pointers on location?

maybe not what you are looking for - my suggestion is to rent a place for a few months/year while you get used to the area and work out what you want to buy. The property market seems to be much more long-term and slow-moving here. Yes its a waste of money paying rent, but better than wasting money buying the wrong place!

fair point, thank you
