
This red and white tubing is 4m long, 1.6m in diameter, weighs around 800 Kg, and was part of the original building of the tower. For 28 years it topped the tallest construction in Germany and overlooked the whole of the cold war.
When the tower was refitted in 1997 this last segment of the antenna was removed and replaced with one that was three meters taller.
Bidding closes at 3pm today (28.Nov.2006). At time of this posting the highest bid was €211. According to the article in Die Welt - Fernsehturm-Spitze wird heute versteigert - the auctioneers are hoping for a last-minute rush of bids. If the sale closes at €1,600 or more then they'll deliver free of charge anywhere in Germany.
