So, here is the reason why I have been to so few meet-ups lately:
(I hate promoting myself like this, but it has to be done. Not much of a pantomime without an audience! So, please all come, and don't pay too much attention to Wendy, she's nervous as hell!)
THE FRANKFURT ENGLISH SPEAKING THEATRE E.V. PRESENTS ITS 2006/07 PANTOMIME:
PETER PAN
So you think you know all about Peter Pan?
Oh no you don't! At least not as presented in the F.E.S.T. 2006/07 Christmas Pantomime. Or have you ever seen Peter Pan in green fishnet tights? Do you want to meet Wendy the Modern Woman, and learn how the Captain really got his Hook?? And what on earth is that creature that calls itself Tank the Replacement Fairy??? Come and find out!
The show is suitable for all ages , so bring your kids (and their grandparents), and make sure to practise your "behind you!" and "oh yes it is!" Prices range from € 5 – 12; for details, discounts and reservations go to www.festfrankfurt.org or send an email to tickets@festfrankfurt.org. If you have a simple car booster seat for your kids, it might be a good idea to bring it along, as our venues basically have no raked seating – although of course the first row or two will always be reserved for our littlest fans!

Excuse me – but what exactly is a British Pantomime?
If you haven't grown up or lived in the UK or Ireland for any length of time, you will probably associate "pantomime" with the silent art of Marcel Marceau and his colleagues. Far from being silent, the traditional British Christmas pantomime is a fun family show, usually based on a well-known story or song, and relying heavily on audience participation. The hero (the "principal boy" or "prince") is played by a young woman in fishnet tights; the funny "dame" is played by a man in drag; in addition (or instead) there can be two Ugly Sisters (again, played by men); and there are parts for children, animals, talking trees and the like. Add a few song & dance numbers, political jokes and whatever else seems appropriate (or not), and you have your "panto"! Of course, the best way to understand this very special art form is to experience it first-hand – so come and see our Peter Pan!
