you need a card registered to an address in the UK. Just ask Bavaria Satellite, they can help you as they sort this out for most people on TT.

Over 200 TV and Radio channels are available on digital satellite even if you don't subscribe to Sky Digital. You may need a viewing card to access these channels (this currently applies to ITV1, ITV2, Channel4 and Five).

So FTA card is required but no subscription needed

Exactly LoneWolf. I have a FTV card which I was given when I bought my Digibox from Ebay. I get lots of English channels at no cost whatsoever... all Sky channels must be paid for and can only be accessed with a UK registered card... bloody expensive.

I got me a FTV sky card and get as mentioned plus movies 315 and 207 and a couple of other channels not mentioned also with the FTV card. You get sky 3 free.

It's important to get the nomenclature, as there are many misconceptions and misunderstandings. "FTA" (Free-to-air) is commonly applied to satellite channels that require no subscription, card nor special equipment except for any (digital) satellite receiver and suitable dish. As far as UK channels are concerned this includes ALL BBC TV and Radio, all ITV channels and a number of news and general interest channels. It also includes Film 4 and Film 4+1 which recently went from subscription to FTA. "FTV" (Free-to-View) is used to describe encrypted channels which need special hardware (for UK channels this can only be a Sky Digibox with built-in Videoguard decryption) and card, for which there is a one-time payment and no monthly subscription. UK FTV channels basically add Channel 4 and the "Five" channels (Five, Five US an Five Life) to the FTA line up. "Freeview" is a terrestrial reception service in the UK, does not apply to satellite services and cannot be received outside of the UK mainland
