Balkonstrasse 5 at English Theatre Berlin
Premiere 2 December 2006 and playing to 9 December 2006
Erika has given up on men, and prefers to talk to the plants on her balcony. Nick has had enough of trivial relationships, and is trying to create a deep, perfect love by writing pop songs about it. Clare has given up on love in favour of convenience. Lyle writes romantic novels. Heidi knows everything about Lyle and wants to create the world of his novels. As Sunday dawns in Balkonstrasse 5, suddenly Erika seizes the initiative, and everything is set in motion.
Ten scenes tell the story of five neurotic Berliners and their psychopathic attempts to create love. This is a play about sexually frustrated artists, desperate yoga teachers, and the dangers of the imagination. This is a play about Berlin.
MEGAFALCON will be piloting their new “Digidada concept for Balkonstrasse 5. Created by the American digital effects designer Jeff Springer, this innovative form merges live theatre with a continually fluctuating digital set. The show is directed by the young British director Ben Knight.
