With all the discussion about the
P1 nightclub, I got me thinking about where someone could get a really good cocktail in Munich.
TT search - cocktails didn't help that much.
So TT citizens, where can you get a great cocktail in Munich?
Whether flashy or not so, tacky or not, no matter, this is about the drinks.
My vote? Pictured right - the lychee daiquiri at
Lizard Lounge, GBV. The Cosmopolitan had by my friend was great but that daiquiri was just perfect.
So where's your drink?

After the first two cocktails, it doesn't really matter where you are because your ability to taste their quality will be severely reduced. Pick your cocktail bar on the quality of the bartenders instead.

Mai Tai is my favourite personal poison

The Jazz Cantina on Steinstr does a really good one.

Trinkhalle in the Baaderstraße.

The bartender is wonderful - he can make anything. And if you don't know what you want, just give a general description of what you like and he'll whip something up for you. The seasonal cocktails are great too. I often enjoy a ginger gin fizz there - simple but absolutely delish!
I think I need a cocktail tonight...

Buena Vista bar in Blumenstr. has good cocktails as well. And you can also dance latin music on weekends. It gets very crowded though.

Buena Vista is OK, some of the barmen and guests are VERY pretty but it is a bit dear as I re-call.

Was in
Buena Vista the other week and TBH I was not impressed with the drinks nor the food. Having ordered the same cocktail as my friend, one was lethal and the other really weak. We spent around 90 Euros and asked whether they had a complimentary shot for us (cheeky I know), no they didn't - but they did have one for 4 Euros!

For no flash, no fooling cocktails I give you
Pusser's. Disagree with the original review though - never been interrupted there.
The place is a hole in the wall. Its got a nautical theme, wooden tables. 3 stories high, including a piano bar downstairs. Only the small main floors been open when I've popped in there. Also have never seen anyone eating from their very limited karte. This is NOT a mingling bar or one of those places where the bartender will listen to your woes. You bring your own mates and atmosphere but Ive seen many a good sailor fall under the infamous pusser's painkiller, which on occasion comes in icecream form at Schubecks.

PS: centre of town pricey...

Sod cocktails, if I want a strong drink, I'll have a strong drink. So for me, it's all about where I can get a decent glass of bourbon or scotch. And that'd be my kitchen. The bartender there is a handsome devil to boot.

Actually a local Sportsverein club I go to has a cockail party once a month and you can get sloshed on a range of cocktails that start at a drinktastic €3,50 and they ain't bad either.
But I'm just cheap.

For really good cocktails in a nice atmosphere I recommend Lenbach (Ottostr., also the afterwork party on Wednesdays is great) or Harpers & Queens (
Sendlinger Str. )

Ah for scotch Id recommend
Islay. They've got a nice bartender with a free hand. Thats the spot I drank a certaing grumpy Irishman under the table. Well technically he cried quits at the Schranenhalle but it all started at Islay. Yes Im pathetic and have so very little to brag about. Also, I generally dont drink so hey it was a momentus occasion. But you're right UpQuark, the bartender there isnt as handsome as the one at your bar. One of them has a much shorter skirt though.

Mr UpQuark is also partial to Muffins & More,
Neuhausen - whisky and cheesecake late nights. Staff not as handsome as his bartender but they do have cheesecake.
jml really did drink an Irishman under the table, I looked down and there he was in fact. That was quiet a night.
NOTE TO TT: there are tests in life where you cannot come out on top. Drinking whisky with jml is one, another would be with Cookie and rum & cokes as the weapon of choice. Oh but the valour of trying.

You're more than welcom Oleron - and when I said I've been around the bars in Munich in my quest for a decent if not superb Cosmo, I'm not lying.
Negroni's Cosmo is served in the correct glass (how easy it is for other bars to fail this simple test), perfect mix of alcohol to zestiness to cranberry.

The
Negroni at
Dukatz is the best you can have in Munich. They even give you some (free) soda water for it just in case you find it too strong.

for whiskey drinkers, i can recommend '

Lehel, they are very generous with their potions and not too expensive. it's a small place so it can be difficult to get a seat.

I have been to
Negroni's lots- and I really don't think they are that good! they are overpriced for happy hour, and the staff ignores you.
Add to list-
Tres Hombres, Taco n Tequila,
El Patio, Rosevelts,
bummed that
Islay used to be a nice quite place to hang out, now it will be full with TTers.

Havana Club on Herrnstr. Best cocktails in Munich. Professional staff. If you are going to pay 8-10€ for a drink, it better be well made, and strong. This is the place for both those elements, plus it has a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Don't know if it's the name of the place, but the sign says TRINKHALLE on
Baaderstrasse (near the Frauenhoferstrasse end). A very small space, but the head bartender is extremely friendly, and knowledgeable about his trade. Also one of the bartenders from Pacific Times (see earlier in the thread) moonlights there on occasion. They will make you any drink you like, just the way you like it. Just don't steal my usual table in the corner if you decide to go...
(I see now that someone beat me to it.)

After several nights at Havana Club I'd have to agree that the drinks are great here.
Havana Club has one of the best selections of rum on the planet... Cocktails are excellent, as is the service and the music. Gotta love the pictures of Papa Hemingway and Fidel.

Sausalito's am Tal has a great bartender, his name is Quentin and he's from South Africa... He makes KILLER cocktails, and is very easy on the eyes
I would always recommend "Cocktail Haus" or maybe it's "Cocktail-House", it is situated in
Münchner Freiheit. Just when you get up from the u-bahn walk straight down the street with all the Döner-shops, walk on a bit and you'll see it. Great drinks. Cosy atmosphere, and you can sometimes find it quite calm, with not too many people.. I see that as an advantage. Loads of cosy little corners where you can drink your cocktails more in private with a lover or so...
Favorite cocktail there would be the "black widow". A bit sweetish.

I used to go to the one on InnerWienerRing, but now the one on Sedanstr (spelling?), and they do have happy hour til 8, but it was still 5 euro, and we were the only people in there (a group of 5) on a friday night.

I will also recommend Padrés in Blumenstrasse. They have great cocktails that are always the same standard every time. I find it amazing that they can line up about 15 different cocktails and make them all simultaneously.
They also remember my face every time even when I haven't been for a long time... They either have great memories or I left a big impression on them LOL
Also, the gay bar, SUB has cocktail nights once or twice a month - they are really cheap and you get drunk quick! :}
