New MVV timetable published - changes 10.Dec.2006

Public transport winners and losers

From December 10, 2006 a number of changes will be made to the Munich public transport timetables. Details are on the MVV website here: MVV Fahrplanänderungen.

Winners are certainly Giesing, Trudering, Messestadt, Gern, and Westfriedhof who are getting extra trains on the U1 and U2 in the rush hours.

Losers are Fraunhoferstrasse and Kolumbusplatz who are losing the extra U7/8 trains in the rush hours.

Add any sad anoracky comments about your local services here. smile.gif
Katrina
We lose the U7 name but U1 people gain a train every 5 minutes all the way through to OEZ at peak time - plus will be able to change in 2007 from U1 to U3 at OEZ which will save us having to go into town to change at Sendlinger Tor or doing something complicated with buses.

For fellow Rotkreuzplatz/Neuhausen residents, no changes to our buses or trams - I'm pleased.
MonksTown
And for 80469 local people the 52 Metrobus is getting quicker too innit! cool.gif

I'm a bit griped about the ending of the U7 to be honestbecasue although it was never really crowded it relieved a fair bit of preassure on the normal U1 trains which can be really crowded.

The other thing that MVV has failed to tackle is the spread of the rush hour. dry.gif
Some of the trains 0900-1000 and 1800-1900 which aren't covered by their extra rush hour services are really crowded.

Homer: But how did you find me?
Marge: Well, I was sure you'd be on foot, because you always say public transportation is for losers. And I was sure you'd head west, because Springfield slopes down that way. And then, I saw the lighthouse, and I remembered how you love blinking lights. Like the one on the waffle iron.
Homer: Or that little guy on the "Don't Walk" sign. Nothing like bright, shiny things.

Margaret Thatcher: A man who, beyond the age of 26, finds himself on a bus can count himself as a failure.
Eck Spatz
Used to know a Yank/Texan working in Muc who didn't drink so he could drive everywhere around town and spend ages looking for a parking spot rather than have to use public transport. Used to have a great laugh, coz we'd be well settled into our food and drinks by the time he'd finally arrive.

A man who wants to go on a mega bender when The Evil One croaks should get the MVV cos he won't be in a fit state to drive! cool.gif

although saint magaret is right in principle, she is not of a generation faced with the responsibility of avoiding dramatic climatic collapse, not least the parking situation in the middle of cities. cars like mobiles are not a necessity but an addiction for alot of people.
Eck Spatz
Indeed.

I work 15 mins walk from work - 8 mins by bike. Yet a neighbour drives to the same place of work in her Merc SLK - even in high summer!
Owain Glyndwr
i am now car free and doing my bit for the environment by cycling to work everyday.
gideon
well done OG! especialy as you work in a suit wearing enviroment (one of the biggest excuses used is i must wear a suit therefore i cant arrive sweaty. mmmm its going to get a hell of alot sweaty in the next 50 years!) and Mr Spatzt should scratch his colleagues car, idiots like that should be punished. 70% of all car journeys are under 8 kilometers or there abouts, and trafic is responsible for 18% of global greenhouse gass emissions. these people are ruining my grandchildrens skiing seasons.

She also runs 2 motorbikes! And is one of these people that insists on only putting on their headlights when it's dark. wacko.gif

On these dark winter mornings/evenings, it's difficult to see cars sometimes unless their lights are on!

shes basicly a selfish and ignorant. and probably goes to fitness club. odd how that is. most of my colleauges who insist on using a car, and insist is the word as munich is one of the easiest public transport towns (and not to say cheap) i've lived in, often have their sports bag in the back. why because they need the car to drive to sport because the bag is to heavy, although if they didnt use the car they wouldnt ever pack a heavy bag and the walk or cycle would be a good replacement for the (non used) monthly fitness fee.

sorry im way off topic, slow day in the office, and i get a bit vocal about global warming, or rather our finger pointing osterich approach to it. (its big industry, airlines other people, i need my house heated to 25 degrees allways, all my electrics on standby, the car to drive 5 minutes for no other reason apart from getting me from a to b, and if i do use public transport i insist on using an escalator to go down and a lift to go up. bahhh wake up people!)

A man who takes anything that Thatcher says seriously can count himself an anachronism.

it is not easy. I haven't figured out the best logistics yet but my shirts end up looking un-ironed when i unpack them and i do arrive sweaty. I have no possibility to shower, so i sit in my cycling clothes and read my emails for 15 mins before changing into my suit. So far no-one has complained of the smell. It will get much worse in the summer though.
gideon
how are you packing the shirts? try and do it like when you buy them, including a square bit of cardboard, and maybe a plastic colar thingie. as for sweaty just cycle a little slower. on of the problems about cycleing i find is that you go straight into the office or ubahn sbahn and into a realy overheated environment. instant sweat sauna!
Owain Glyndwr
I've tried cycling slower but it doesn't stop me sweating much, so I don't bother. I do slow down for the final stretch, though, and open my jacket completely in an attempt to cool off. I fold my shirts like you find them packed in the shops but without the cardboard and plastic bits. maybe I'll consider getting them laundered round the corner from the office and pick them up every monday morning.

@OG
Eagle creek make these folders for keeping your clothes crease free in cases/rucksacks etc. The German stockist are listed here. There are a couple of places in Munich that sell them.

Not really much changed this year innit. But it will do next year I guess, particuarly in the north when the U3 is extended.

thanks for the tip. shame there are no stockists anywhere near Munich, though.
MunichMag
They seem to be having some problems with 'ü' on their site. There are 3 stockist in 'Mnchen'.

That shoud be "Därr" wink.gif

And 'ö', as in 'Mnchengladbach'.

Katrina, I'm confused--if the 5 min U1 takt is changing to Westfriedhof/Sendlinger Tor (from Rotkreuzplatz/Kolumbusplatz), then that means those trains still won't be going through to Georg-Brauchle-Ring and the OEZ, correct?

My biggest gripe with the MVV is the elevators -- they are out of order with amazing frequency. I can't manage my daughter's big baby carriage on the escalators, so if the elevator is out of order, I am really SOL. What do people in wheelchairs do here?? Does anyone know of any number you can call to make sure elevators are operational at specific stops??
MonksTown
I think Katrina is wrong. ohmy.gif
The rush hour U1s only running between Westfriedhof and Sendlinger Tor.

Broken escalators is a big annoying thing on MVG.
Katrina
Oh probably - but I don't care really zard or MT. I get off at Rotkreuzplatz and anything past Sendlingertor doesn't really exist. ph34r.gif

sorry
zard
Well, the OEZ is my stop, so that's why I care -- can't wait for the U3 to make it out here! Although maybe by then we'll have moved anyway. If we can ever find an apartment to buy (haven't even seen anything advertised worth looking at in months...sigh.)

There's a lots more attraction if you go one stop further to the Dark Side. ph34r.gif

another way to go bike riding without suit wrinkles: http://www.twowheelgear.com/ suit panniers. I think I've posted that before but I'm too lazy to search and it bears repeating anyway.

And yes, have your shirts laundered near work and just carry them over.

it really doesn't matter what they write on the timetable for the U6 going to Garching lately. Every day it's broken and you have to wait for ever for the goddamn trains to come or continue their way. And even if they are working "normally" at Garching it doesn't matter what the timetable says, after 7 or 8 they just go every 20 mins even though it's written that it should be every 10. I'm so glad that soon I won't have to use that one anymore.
