Nowhere Man
... from the direction of Stuttgart (seeing as most of you seem to be in the Munich area.)

Hello TT community.

At last, at last found something productive to do during the working hours!!!

Newbie here on this board but been in Germany for nigh on 15 years. So know a bit about living in Germany; the good, the bad and the just plain insane! German still crap, but, for some strange reason improves remarkably the more I drink!!!

Living on the outskirts of Stuttgart since I came here. Used to be a big UK community here but slowly all have drifted on to greener pastures, places where you can wash the car on Sunday etc, etc.

Used to post on an old Anglo refugee board a few years back and been dropping in on TT for a while now so decided to join in the fun and make some new friends. Some of the events sound like fun.

Looking forward to chatting to you all soon.

That's me. I enjoyed my 10 years in Stuttgart but had to move on some time. Thinking about it, I might even know you. ohmy.gif

Welcome anyway. At least you're not going to be asking the usual "where can I buy Marmite" questions!

Hi, If you can call Hannover greener pastures, well... (I haven´t got a car.) I used to live in Stuttgart, I was there 7 years , from 1990 till 1997. I used to hang out and work in a pub in the Altstadt - das Brett, lots of Brits, due to being run by an englishwoman. When you say outskirts, where do you mean exactly?

Don´t listen to the Bavarians - try a nice north german Pils! biggrin.gif

Hi sweetheart!!! Don't mind being wee, we'll find you out sometime. Welcome to our happy little family ( ph34r.gif ) and keep us posted on the Kehrwoche (German link) and its ramifications.
P.S. For anyone complaining about the regulations in Bavaria, in Baden-Württemberg you have to sweep your common stairwell once a week AND the sidewalk in front of the building at set intervals!

15 years? Shit. Don't get that for murder these days.

Blimey we could set up our own ex-Stuttgarter clique.
Thanks for bringing up the Kehrwoche Sara, I had managed to suppress that memory wink.gif
willum
Good idea! Yes, Kehrwoche was a pain - a cleaning woman does our stairs now biggrin.gif

@Jeeves: BTW, I used to know a couple of blokes from Birmingham in S, printers or illustrators, I believe. My worst hangover ever was their fault biggrin.gif !

Stuggart is ok, I was the crumpled heap in the corner in o'Reilly's at closing time. Then on to Ludwigsburg for breakee. No I am over the where can I buy Marmite and 1001 questions on how to install sky. Was a painful episode though.

If you can call Hannover greener pastures

I hear that North Germany and North Germans are nicer than their southern counter parts but that is North Germans who say that. Are they nicer?

Me I am in Affalterbach, 20 mins North of Stuttgart
willum
It´s true, they do say that. But even the northerners say that people from Hannover are very insular. I haven´t had that many difficulties, although I must admit that as my wife already lived here and knew people, I had a big advantage. Funnily enough though, a lot of our german friends aren´t actually from Hannover originally! My wife isalso not from here, but from southern Germany - on the french border. We met in S.

I had good and bad times in Stuttgart, quite often a (lots of) drink(s) and a laugh! biggrin.gif I actually got to know some of the natives quite well, although the Schwaben are supposed to be superficial! The nicest people I´ve met in Germany upto now are however the Ostfriesens, very friendly and helpful.

O´Reilly´s still exists? We were in there a couple of times after closing time! Is Biddy Earley´s still going?

I couldn´t find Affalterbach on the map - is it near Ludwigsburg? Or Bietigheim-Bissingen?

BTW Hannover really is very green - 45% of the town is parkland or forest!
