Hi there all

I have been living in Munich for 7 months and only came across this website now! I come from Sunny South Africa and lived there for the past 26 years. At the moment I am still adapting to the new culture and find it hard to make friends here in Munich! Any suggestions? unsure.gif

There seem to be one or two things listed on the calendar.

Oh, welcome, by the way.

Adapt to your new surroundings by practicing your German at the German speaking Stammtisch tomorrow, very laid back and always a good mix of people.

Hey!

I'm Kirsten. I am from Durban, cool.gif but I am currently living and teaching english in Japan.

I really am interested in moving to Germany next year, but I was just wondering what is the deal with South Africans getting in? What passport do you have? British? I've got an SA one, so can I get a two year working holiday visa like for London?but then you need a lot of money probably hey? I really am clueless on getting in to the EU. sorry for all the questions, but you are the first south african i have come across so any help you can swing my way would be great.

Other than that, I was kind of thinking that being able to speak Afrikaans must surely help out a bit with German? I can:t speak any german either, but from the little contact i:ve had with it, it is not as hard as learning another language (definately not like Japanese!). What do you think?

Okay, well, hope that you managed to meet some cool people over the weekend. thanks for any help.

Man, i would love to be back in sunny sa right now. i really am missing home! a braai... some biltong... sad.gif

Totsiens,

Kirsten

You bloody luck fish, how did you get it right to leave KAK South Africa. All this bullsh*t of "I miss SA, in SA we do it this way blah blah blah". Come on you in Japan. If that is the case, GO BACK STUPID!!! Anyway now that I've let off steam, I'm in sunny SA, wondering when I will be hi-jacked, robbed or accosted again. Single mom, and trying desperately to find a way to move over to Germany with a job. Need to pay school fees and feed three cats (kid and cats come with me). I'm lucky enough to have a German passport so being kicked out of Germany should hopefully not happen.
So you enjoy yourself there, make it work, there is nothing to miss. Good luck!! I would suggest you look on the web for South Africans in Germany, I found a site with guy and gals doing the braai, beer and rugby thing. Once you mix with some people your network will expand. Oh and one thing, don't say in SA we do it this way, and we had this, and we got this blah blah. Don't whine. They hate the South Africans because all they seem to do is moan.

Cheers and Good Luck.
