Well I will throw in Hirschgarten as a suggestion, and see what happens.

The England match starts at 21.00 so by getting there early I mean an hour or so before which is usual meet-up time anyway! I'm not a football fan normally but the WM is good crack and you get to meet lots of interesting people.

HirschgartenEasy to get to, Augustiner beer, biggest beer garden in Munich (seats 8000) so seating won't be a problem. Close to town but off the usual tourist trail...and they got deer.
Tram 16 or 17 to Steubenplatz.
Note: I's most likely not going, just providing some extra info.

I vote for Hofbräukeller, and volunteer to arrive early and save seats, even.
How early is early enough, do you reckon? I could get there by about 4:30. I notice Germany AND Poland are both playing at 4:00, though.
I can be somewhere around 5:30-6:00 depending on location.

Jun 20 2006, 9:34 am
If Germany is playing at 4 then you need to get there around 3 or arrive just after the game... The Germans normally empty out of any establishment within 2 minutes of the game ending, regardless of result

Jun 20 2006, 9:40 am
I'm leaving work early to watch the German match at 16.00 and then once that's over by 18.00 I can head up to HBK for 18.30ish. As Crawlie says most of the Gemans leave straight away leaving plenty of opportunity to get places!
cinzia
Jun 20 2006, 9:43 am
I think it was Cookie who said that there are tables at HBK with no view of the screen that were fairly easy to snag for Joliet Jake's pre-birthday celebration. Could get one of those and then move in to a better viewing area eventually, after the Germany game. If, as Crawlie says, the place eventually does empty out.
There is no game today between the early and late slots.
Keydeck
Jun 20 2006, 9:46 am
Just a couple of quick points on HBK.
I suggested Hirschgarten to Kza for the simple reason that it is a touch off the beaten track for tourists but still caters for the footie crowd if they want it. Also it's easier to set a meeting point for people arriving at different times which is always the case on the Tuesdays.
If Hofbräukeller fills up they close the gates which DW fell foul of the other day. I've never seen that in a beer garden before. Yes they opened them up afterwards, but people were either waiting outside for ages or had gone elsewhere.
It’s not a great location for TT Tuesday during the World Cup since it can be VERY difficult to find people there and there may be issues getting in. Yes, you can exchange mobile numbers but trust me it's loud, so the person you are trying to call may well not hear you.
Just worth bearing in mind if you go ahead there. The only saving grace might be the big gap between the games today.

Jun 20 2006, 10:00 am
I'm with Keydeck on this (did I really write that?). It's away from the majority of tourists. The HBK will be packed and the gates probably shut by 3pm due to the 4pm Germany game. Of course, I'd also be up for an indoor, non-footie TTT like Cafe Blue over near the KVR.
Someone call it.
woof.

Jun 20 2006, 10:05 am
I shall be at the HBK at about 18:30 or so

, the beer serving area is fairly quick seving up and the bogs are handy too. the germans will not be there in any great numbers

.I still don`t know if England should win or lose!!!
cinzia
Jun 20 2006, 10:13 am
I can go to either one, although HBK is much closer for me.
Will that many Germans really take the afternoon off for a game that makes almost no difference in the end? According to my calculations, Germany and Ecuador can't fail to go on to Round 2. The only difference today's game will make is who is the group winner and who the runner-up.

Put it on vibrating alarm and stick it in your front pocket. Keeps you amused as well as permitting TTers to find you.

Yes, plenty of my colleagues are taking off aswell, not sure if I can but will try.
I will throw in
Paulaner am Nockherberg. It's got 2 giant screens, one outside in the beergarden, and another in the beer hall. It's an official "WM Fan Treff" moderated by Radio Gong 96.3. I've been there a couple of times now, it was never too crowded (not been there for a German game yet though).

not great for watching the game, but you can keep up to date on the score.

Unless a consensus emerges for elsewhere, shall I fix it at 1pm today for one of: Hirschgarten, Hofbraukeller, Westpark, Nockherberg?

chinese turm. hehe. just playing, but thats where im going, if i do in fact go anywhere which is a bit unlikely but not out of the realm of possibilities. i guess thats a bit pointless but with this many recommendations who cares.
fair play to those willing to battle the crowds at the various bier gartens to reserve seats. I see no reason that given the WC that there couldnt be multiple meetups.

Hirschgarten it is. From 6.30pm.
I'm not going myself, and I don't have any suggestions for how or where to meet. But that's the location decision for this week. If you're planning to go, make sure to post here and add your name to the
attendance list.
In time for next week there will be a location voting system with automated cut-off time and decision-making.
Incidently, see the
World Cup match viewing sheet if you plan to watch the football.
And if you're Scandanavian or enjoy Scandanavian company, then head to the
Bachmaier Hofbräu for the England-Sweden game as that's where the
Swedes and friends are meeting.

It's probably a good thing we didn't decide to make the Hofbraeukeller the official TTT venue tonight.
I headed down there after the Germany game and arrived about 18:15. It was a total madhouse, and people were definitely not clearing out of there. Hung around watching the party for 15-20 minutes and then left when I didn't see anyone I knew (sea-king, I don't think I know you and didn't see your post before leaving.)
Is it only like that for Germany games, I wonder, or will it be like that for the Group E final games on Thursday at 4? Any predictions? I wouldn't mind so much if it were just me, but today I was, and Thursday I will be, toting the baby along, and she was looking pretty nervous about the noise and all the people.

In previous weeks there have been problems with reaching a consensus on where the Tuesday drinks nights should take place. So now we have a venue voting system in place.
See the
sign-up page to vote for your venue of choice each Tuesday.
The deadline for voting is 11am on the Tuesday. At that time the venue with the most votes wins. At least three votes are required for a venue to win. If no venue gets three votes by 11am then the voting remains open until the first venue with three votes is reached.
Currently included on the list of available venues are those that TT Tuesday has been to in the past and have proven popular. More venues can be added to the list on request.

Tomorrow's World Cup Games:
Brazil v Ghana (2nd round match 7 1700)
Spain v France (2nd round match 8 2100)
Both matches have UK ITV coverage
Be advised that Günther Murphy's may not be the best choice for this specific Tuesday as many Spanish fans use that pub as their football pub.
