What games?
France vs Switzerland at 18:00
Brazil vs Croatia at 21:00
Both should be good games.

Well, I would be coming straight from work, so the opportunity to bring something obvious to mark the spot is fairly limited. Also, I'm certain that by the time I got there, the best TV viewing spots will have been taken. And as no one seems willing to come down early, I don't really fancy going there on my own for what would likely be over an hour to try and defend a well-placed table (or simply empty table) against the throngs.

I've seen a few games at the Chinese Tower and there is usually a lot of turnover at the tables inbetween matches. If Showem and a few others arrive around 17:30, there should be no problem securing a table for the 18:00 game. However, as we all know from O-fest, reserving a table when you are on your own is very difficult to accomplish. If we can get a couple of others to commit to a 17:30 meet up we should be in the clear. Late comers can make the best of it and sit nearby. When the first match ends we should be able to consolidate all the remaining TTers right infront of the screen for what should be an exciting Brazil/Croatia match. I've done this in the past without too much hassle.
I can't committ to meeting up early, but will try my hardest to finish up work at a reasonable hour. I'll have a better idea later in the day. Any other takers for an early meet up???

just a quick helpfull hint on transportation + world cup issues:
- when the Italians win a match, they dance in the streets (in particular,
Leopoldstrasse)
- this dancing / non-violent celebration (insert comment about the English here) is being allowed by the police
- car traffic is re-routed
- and some busses are cancelled for the duration of the dancing.
for those visiting the Chinese Tower, note that the 54 bus may not be running after the games - said bus may be replace by a street party.

actually chicago, all is correct except the 54 does run till the
giselastrasse UBahn station then turns on another route as
leopoldstrasse is blocked. was in that yesterday.
the italians dancing on the streets was a cool site, took some piccis with the phone, didnt come out right, but celebrations continued late in the night. i could hear music and blaring car horns till the wee hours. sometimes i wish i didnt live so close to
leopold str.

...
the problem was in the other direction - towards
Ostbahnhof, my friend. the 154 was running, but after waiting for the 54 thru 2 scheduled times (no shows), I made the walk to
Leopoldstrasse and discovered why they didn't show.
EDIT: and it was quite a show!

! well did you at least get to see those 3 italian girls on top of the landrover (I think) right in the middle of the strasse gyrating to some hip-hop music. there was a huge crowd around them, blocking the whole strasse!

My intention was just to wander around for a while and then try to phone Showem, Gen or whoever else I can think of to find out where they be. All whilst keeping a beady eye out for Larz's Red Hot Chili Peppers 1996 tour T-shirt.
RD, I'm not sure what time I'll head over yet but drop me a line when you are going and if I'm there I'll guide you to the right spot.
Edited due to the Right Honourable Yeti pointing out my spelling mistake.

Beery or beady eye Oh Keydeck ! But not a beedy one.
Anyway I have Thin Lizzy blaring in the office and a Warsteiner so cold that my lips are stuck to the bottle, I think I may wander over later or maybe not or whatever.

well not all of the german beer are as good as the bavarian beer, some are quite
US standard, better to drink them cold.

I like my beer cold enough to make my teeth hurt, unless it's Guinness or Weissbier. I have been known to drink a beer at sub-optimal temperatures though.
(Apparently Warsteiner is owned by the Scientology sect so let's not take any chances, this could be Monkey Boy peepee right here, just as well it's finished)

Hi there,
I would like to join you on Tuesday for the Tuesday Drinks Night. However, I am not sure if Germans are welcome to take part in your meetups. Therefore I would like to ask you if the Tuesday Drinks Night is for English natives only or if other nationalities may join you as well.

Toytown events are open to native speakers and non-natives who are fairly fluent in English. If that is the case, you are very welcome.

TT marker needed for finding each other at events
Hi Apfel, all are welcome to attend as long as they don't take this lot seriously. Someone will post up a marker or location of some sort the day of the meetup.

What about Hofbräukeller at Wiener Platz? Shady, great atmosphere for watching the footie and cocktails too!! Need to get there early enough to get good seats though.
Footie?

Doesnt that start at 16 Oclock? Might be better to find a footie-free beer garden for ttt, if there is such a thing, otherwise both getting there early and finding a seat might be difficult for most people. Sorry I know I should really have a suggestion but I dont.
