I'll see you kids at Murphy's for some Karoke.

Roots did turn up with his lovely wife, as he has done on many an occasion.
Canuck did dedicate his beer to Pootle.
Many people were there as I left, but 2 hours and 2 Maß is enough when I have to get up at 6am.

The first beer garden TTT of the season that I could have made and I had to go to the dentist instead. AND they will almost certainly have the cheek to charge me for the pleasure
A beer will be raised in dedication to Poots tomorrow, good idea Canuck.
OG You just haven't been watching the right space me old son.
With weather like this its nearly a crime not to go out of doors to a biergarten. My vote goes for the Chinese Turm again.

Oh! I can go this time!! It's really embarassing to admit this in Munich, but I have not been to a beergarden yet this summer!

Sep 5 2005, 12:41 pm
May I suggest the Hofbräukeller in
Haidhausen just off Max-Weber-Platz? It is a Biergarten come bar (run by Barfly, a place in
Lehel). Great atmosphere, trees, benches, bring your own food or buy it there, on streetcar line 18 with U4 and U5 at Max-Weber-Platz.

and those who prefer cocktails can get drinks at
Sausalitos.
madgibson
Sep 5 2005, 12:55 pm
Ooh, could be tempting if it's gonna be at the Hofbräukeller - it's on the way home and the cocktails are great and cheap (EUR 3.50 for normal size and EUR 5 for jumbo - happy hour is 5-8p.m.). I'm not a beer fan so it's perfect - you can take the drinks over to the beer benches too.

I can go this time and my vote would be for anything outside! (if the weather looks like its going to hold until tomorrow night)

Sausalitos is a great place, and you can sit outside. Cocktails are perfect (huge_ and also the food is pretty good. Suggest going there
Keydeck
Sep 5 2005, 3:23 pm
Some clarification might be in order. Which
Sausalitos is being referred to here?
1. The one on Türkenstr which has the garden out back.
2. The one in Tal which is long, narrow and always cramped.
3. The place in the Höfbrau beer garden which doesn't serve food (I think).
Also, there have been about 4 suggestions of beer garden to attend. Probably best to just pick one, set a time and stick with it. Otherwise it tends to descend into endless discussion and confusion.
Eleanor_Rigby
Sep 5 2005, 3:29 pm
Well seeing as the beer garden in question is the Hofbraukeller, logic would dictate that I was referring to the Sausalitos in (beside) the Hofbraukeller beer garden.
My apologies for the confusion.
Further, you are correct they do not serve food in the
Sausalitos part of the beer garden.
HollyGolightly
Sep 5 2005, 3:32 pm
to me it looks like its between the Hofbräukeller and
Sausalitos...I could do either so someone else has to decide...
Eleanor_Rigby
Sep 5 2005, 3:38 pm
If we sit close to the border between the two we can have the best of both worlds and won't have to decide between the two.
Now that I've threadjacked I guess I had better come. See you there.

Sep 5 2005, 3:41 pm
Ok...Im going to plan on doing the beer garden (Hofbräukeller) tomorrow and I will be there around 8 or so. (but Ill keep checking for changes

Sep 5 2005, 4:20 pm
@Silva
You don't have to worry about being in the middle - if you read my post you can see you are able to take the drinks over to the beergarden area. So, food, beer or cocktails you can all sit together!
It is true - no food from the
Sausalitos part.

TTers, with the Hofbräukeller a rather large beergarden with tons of tables, where are we meeting up this evening? (if it's crowded we may not have much choice anyway, but I just thought I'd bring it up

Yeah, was wondering myself how we'll meet up - so many newbies/people I don't know! What about somewhere in the first row of beer benches after the "gedeckte Tische"?? Then we're not too far away from the
Sausalitos part,
What time is everyone going? Doubt most people will be as early as the 6.23p.m. quoted but I could make it that early - anyone else?
Eleanor_Rigby
Sep 6 2005, 2:11 pm
I won't make it quite that early but the location sounds fine to me.

info/addressit's wicked big though. is someone bringing the flower/guitar/something so others can locate?
[can't go and no, haven't read previous posts]
Trying to think of something I could bring along that will be spot-able in a big crowded Biergarten...
How about I bring my (battery-driven) camping lantern? It's not big, but how many other tables will have a lit camping lantern on them?

I have a big umbrella with pictures of Munich on it in my cupboard at work - would that be better to spot than Kat's lamp?
I should get there at 18.30. If anyone wants my handy number PM me before 18.00!

They hava a table 3 rows behind a large 'Stammtisch' sign (I guess that's behind the service section). Kat's also got her lamp on the table.

Thanks @Keydeck, I didn't read what others posted as I read it on my Pocket PC and the screen is too small and was too tedious! :}
@Kat, you left your camping lamp... instead of stealing it in typical English drunken style

I took it home and looked after it for you... PM me to arrange to collect it...

Darn, sounds like I missed a great night out. Being new to Munich (and hating it for many reasons) I decided to empty a few bottles at 'home' instead. Will make every effort to join you lot next Tuesday though. Someone just make sure I manage to get to work the next morning please.

Ugh that was fun but I feel well ropey this morning. Probably due to not going directly home after the beer garden, not passing Go and most certainly not collecting 200 quid. We were in the service area with the grumpy arsed waitress. We even picked up a couple of stragglers at about 10 who'd been there since about 7 or so and not found the group. Carly (I think) and a bloke who's name escapes me but who loves football. Good evening and as usual a pleasure to meet everyone (or at least everyone I got a chance to speak to).

I think its a good choice. Service is good there and the waitress was well on the ball last time, surprisingly there were no drinks left on the bill at the end of the night.

I'd definitely vote for Cafe Blue as well - enjoyed it a couple of weeks ago, and as weather is looking nasty I think we're best advised to avoid anything outdoorsy.

3 Loins, I suggest you make a reservation for that section with the raised tables. It's perfect for a group. Previously I've just reserved for about 10-15 people and then just called them back if it looks like there'll be more.
