Big C
See you there.
I love beans!
Once again, Sparty! You have the words of wisdom for the day! How the hell do you do that? Is it a Dutch thing?

I will be there next week, even if I am alone!

For those going tonight, have fun from the beans.

Why don't we meet somewhere else every Tuesday after work? We could even try somewhere German where the beer is cheap (it's definately not in Gunthers) and we've plenty of room to swing each other around? Who wants flat expensive Guinness anyway? Just a suggestion
sparty
Excellent suggestion! Guinness...Yuck...

We could go and pick a bar from munichnights.com or allofmunich.com every week...

It is certainly VERY cheap in happy hour. Plus the added benefit of much fewer Germans.
Bubble Gum
What would be great is if we met in a different bar/cafe every Tuesday. That way we can get to know the city better, and a variety of different places.
Jimbo
Precisely right mate. Happy hour is dirt cheap - €1.50 or so for a Helles is OK I reckon. Must confess to self-interest tho because it's near to my office, and also my apartment. Dunno if people wanna mix with the locals more, or if they prefer to stay separate...
sparty
Maybe the beer is cheap between 17 and 19, but on the other hand the food is pretty expensive, and if we make it a regular after-work-event, it might be nice to check out more places, not only for the cheap beer but also for the food.
Wexford
A) Not everybody finishes work in time for happy hour cool.gif Don't they have happy hour elsewhere? C) Not everybody lives/works conviently next to Gunthers blink.gif D) We're in a big group anyway so I'm sure anyone who's living in Germany but doesn't want to vary the type of people they get exposed to too much can use other Toytowners as shields.
bex
Mix with the locals... huh.gif you'll have a hard job doing that in a german bar!
remember the german culture is to sit at a table with the people you are with and stay there all night not speaking to anyone outside of your group apart from the waiter. dry.gif

The only time you get to properly mix with the locals on their patch is at the Oktoberfest.
Jimbo
The thing I really do like about the Wishing Well arrnagement is that ppl get to get up, walk around and mix whereas when you can't in the sit down types of bar...or at least not so easily...
Keydeck
If it's a happy hour thing you're interested then try www.HappyHour.de for information on what's on when.

It's a good suggestion to vary the location so people get to see different spots around town with the relative comfort of having at least a few guaranteed English speakers in their company. There's a lot out there rather than just the Irish pubs.

Having said that, I'm off to Kilian's tonight blink.gif
sparty
I agree, but there must be more bars like that...
pao
I like this idea. Personally, I like trying out new places. And there are so many beautiful places in this city. I really don't want to be spending all my time in Irish and Australian pubs. Not to knock them, but they just don't have any flavor. They make me feel like I'm back in the States at some university bar.
pao
Surely there are bars in town that have some room to stand up and move around that aren't Irish or Aussie. But, I agree, I don't like to be confined to a table unless it's only a few people.
Keydeck
Some bars where you don't have to be table-bound.

Bar Capalbio
Cocktail House
Doro's
Eat The Rich
Hideout
Kalango
Nachtcafe
Padres
Schwabinger 7
Tresznjewski
Zoozie'z

Of course there's plenty more. Basically I guess you're looking for somewhere with a focus around the bar and so plenty of people standing rather than just lots of tables around.
Karen
Tresznjewski is more like a Café. Space to stand is very limited. Although the waiters don't want you to stay in their way. Oh, and you would probably also stand in my way while I'm trying to get some sweets at the entrance.

Better try Master's Home. It's a nice cocktail bar in Blumenstr. (?). But don't get the last strawberrys. Those are reserved for my cocktails at any time.
San
A very good idea I'd say to find a place with proper happy hour times. Even the Sausallitos has happy hour untill 20.00!! (too bad it's a sit&eat joint)
koala
Masters Home is Frauenstrasse 11, and you've probably walked past it without seeing it!

It's divided into a number of rooms (bedroom, bathroom etc) and the bar does have a fair amount of space.

yeah, I like masters home and they have a barman that looks like a young tom cruise and he makes wicked cocktails

Schwabinger 7

Now *that* I would pay money to see - half this lot would run out screaming!
I remember being in there once and having the same girly frilly shirt on as the barman who wanted to borrow my lippy... wink.gif
Master's Home is nice but has terrible lazy staff (at least every time I've been in), I like Schmock (has standing space but a little pricey - is a kosher bar/restaurant), Big Easy (standing bar and seats, charming staff too), Ysenegger (stand or sit as they have high and low tables) or Sappralotts (so I live in Neuhausen! large bar, good value food), or Moro (has a side room but is in Schlachthofviertel/Müllerstr., I like it though).
A personal favourite would be X Club in Clemenstr. http://www.munichx.de/trinken/x.php3 which can the the scariest place in Munich (I wouldn't go in a suit) but also one of the cheapest and most fun.
Katrina
Jimbo
Not wearing a suit shouldn't be a big problem - I'll just have to pop home first. Must confess tho, I'm not so bothered about the venue as long as enough people show up to get an atmosphere all of our own...
Brummie
hmm, i think there's quite some difference between some people going to the pub to meet up for a pint, sorry metric sub-pint, and trekking off to some shickeria bar - best leave that to the weekend IMHO. Gunters is a fairly neutral venue where nobody has to worry about what they wearing or how much a drink costs.
Wexford
Good point Jimbo. As long as we're all together tongue.gif Though if you're still looking for a housekeeper / mummy then maybe it's better we go somewhere you can mingle with a larger crowd wink.gif

Seriously though, I hope we're not going to agree on somewhere expensive too. I've had to turn off the heating and wear an extra layer of clothing so that I can afford Tuesday nights sad.gif

I'm with you Brummie. Nothing like a pint after work in comfortable surroundings... Though I don't really want to pretend I'm back in Dublin. Will you manage to feed yourself drink what with your neck and all that?
sparty
QUOTE

Well, there are people (including me) who worry about how much a drink cost...
Keydeck
Wexford, if you did want to pretend you were back in Dublin, we could arrange a Dub night out for everyone. I'll organise things. Basically whenever you want a beer you give me €4.50. I'll bring you back a glass of flat tasteless swill, unless you fancy a long-drink in which case you give me about €10 and I'll bring you 2cl with a splash. When the pub closes we can go walking around the city for 2 hours looking for a taxi. When you are allocated a taxi you tell the driver where you live and I'll get him to refuse on the grounds that it's too far. Then I'll arrange to have everyone beaten up in the centre of town. It'll be great! biggrin.gif

Bord Failte don't like me much.
Bubble Gum
I'm in. biggrin.gif
Wexford
Great! Thanks for reminding me why I so desperately want to be here Keydeck. Sometimes I look back and see the rosey picture. Puke-splattered O'Connells Street mmm... wink.gif
Katrina
Hiya
I won't be along tonight but I'll see a few of you on Thursday at the TTM/Dining Club bash thing.
Have a nice evening/night
Katrina
jordigo
keydeck, why do we have to start looking for a cab as soon as the pub closes? I would much rather queue in the rain for a club for an hour first...

slan
J
Keydeck
True, I forgot that. Queue in the rain for an hour to get into a club only for the bouncer to turn you away because it's [a] regulars only, [b] you don't fit the club profile or [c] "cause I f*ckin said so, right!". For a small extra fee we can arrange to have one of your party beaten to a pulp by the bouncers. Then the taxi hunt may commence. This really will be a full night out.
MysteryMan
Don't forget the 10 mile walk home after you finally and inevitably give up on ever finding a taxi.
AquaticMeringue
...via the dodgy kebab house, which leaves you sitting on the toilet for the next three days.
mrbobke
I recommend Nipplers and the 'Purple Fuck'. Only thing is, I can't remember where it is... blink.gif

profundo
Sparka,
is there a special code phrase like "What about Bob?" or "show me your puppies!" to identify TT'ers??? cool.gif
SparkaHck
Hey, great idea - the codephrase is "Gimme some sugar, baby".
Big C
i think it should be "what is that film with nicole kidman again?"
answer: "to die for"
Showem
The only relevant secret phrase is the one provided by the person with the beer tickets.
beans
I will be breaking my weekend dry spell and going out tuesday, but early and leaving early...

can't keep up with the youngins at 32...
SparkaHck
@showem - true, we have another phrase agreed with Gunthers each week which we have to keep secret until the event.
Hazza
I'll try to make it, but can only stay an hour - tops
sparty
That's what we all say and end up leaving at midnight completely wasted... tongue.gif
Hazza
I think my friend who's coming over later would get pissed off!!
Jimbo
Just about to head out the door to Günthers now and would like to remind people that it's all still on and that Pootle and SparkaHck are now in charge - so be nice to them!

See you guys there!
beans
Thank you, SparkaHck and Pootle, good job.
SparkaHck
Umm, I left a CD at the well, can you PM me if you picked it up?
