The Frankfurt Weihnachtsmarkt kicks off this Thursday evening at 17:00. For this weeks Thurs Nite Drinks would anyone fancy meeting up down there for some Glühwein and bratwurst/Reibekuchen/sweet cakes etc?
How does meeting at 8pm outside Saturn (Hauptwache) sound? We could then wind our way down to the big christmas tree and the carousel at the Römer, taking in the delicious scents of the Xmas market on the way...

I am up for making this a regular thing whilst the markets are on, it's a great way to spend a couple of hours after a long day at work.
Anyone up for meeting at 7 or 7.30pm instead on Thurs?

Looks like I'm now getting pulled into work xmas drinks. Will bump into you at some point hopefully. And LB - you're right - the website does suggest that it closes at 9pm on a typical evening. Surely that cant be right?

The quiz starts at 9, so it might be a good idea to get there well before that...
Purple Muffin
Nov 23 2006, 11:31 am
From what I remember about the quiz before it didn't used to start on time at 9pm but that was 18 months ago!
Shall we say 8:30 then? I cannot promise to be there that early though. I am going running after work.

Hi there,
I'm new to this forum...and Frankfurt for that matter. I am going to try to make it out tonight, if all the unpacking goes well.
By the way, what kind of quiz is happening at the bar tonight??
Thanks!
Evanna
Nov 23 2006, 12:59 pm

Hi Hanna, welcome to Frankfurt
I guess it will be a standard pub quiz tonight with different rounds covering different subjects i.e. sport, music, travel/geography etc.
maybe see you tonight then if your packing goes well!
I'll try and get there for 8.30pm too Evanna

Welcome to Frankfurt Hanna.
Yep it is just a general knowledge type quiz, music, sport, geography etc! Most of us will be there for the beer more than the quiz though I imagine

Ok, so apparently I can spend the entire day on this site!
I will most likely make it out tonight.

And a few of you are also going to the Christmas market tomorrow night- is that right? I think I missed that on the forums. Anyway, I LOVE the Christmas Market so I'll also try to meet you there tomorrow. I think I will be unpacking for weeks...

Nov 23 2006, 6:29 pm
Can anyone tell me how to get to Mac Ghiolla from the
Bornheim Mitte stop? I can't seem to find my map at the moment... Thanks!!
Little Britain
Nov 23 2006, 6:38 pm
basically when you come out at
Bornheim Mitte, take the U-Bahn exit that mentions Saalburgstrasse. You will find yourself on the berger strasse (the big long road) at a junction. You need to cross over Saalburgstrasse (road from left to right) and continue heading up Berger Strasse i.e. heading north away from the town centre. It is now about 5min walk to the pub. On your left you will go past a couple of eis cafes and a pizza place or two.
Then you get to a little junction with a supermarket on it (Pennymarkt I think). Keep going straight on over the juction remaining on Berger Strasse. You will pass a bar called Schöneberger on the way on your left hand side, on the right is a pizzeria called Dick & Doof, you are now very close. The irish pub is on the corner straight ahead, a big old white building with an ancient fountain outside.
The address is Berger Straße 255.
Hope that helps!

The bar was way too smokey last night
Hopefully Christmas market next week...
Jonnyboy
Nov 24 2006, 10:25 am
Indeed it was. I think it goes to the bottom of the Irish pub list!
Little Britain
Nov 24 2006, 10:37 am
so how was the Mac Ghiolla apart from being far too smoky? how was the quiz?
Evanna
Nov 24 2006, 10:47 am
The pub was too smokey and the quiz was too German! The guy hat problems translating the questions into English and most of the topics were German as well...
