yeah, I was surprised at the huge divide between TT and MDC, I guess at the last party I turned up with 10 mates after a few bevvies to warm up, and wasn't in TT then so didn't know who was what...
I agree, it is a cool place, the drinks were expensive and I got an EEEEEEVIL look from the barman when I gave him the right change plus a little extra (but not the full € 4), but it goes with the territory.
I would have liked something a bit quieter to actually chat, but it was my problem due to being tired, it was nice to see people tarted up for a change (except for me, in work rags...)
Now can someone tell me how to recover in time for my annual review at 2pm?!

You're absolutey right about the beer. It wasn't cold enough and they always charged me 4 Euros as well. I think it should be up to me to decide who gets a tip.
The crowd was great as ususal, but I think the music could have been better. A friend of mine talked to the DJ and suggested to play some more Latino music and his answer was - I play what I want.
Can't really comment on the food.

Was my first TT event and had a fab time, although some of the people could have been a bit more approachable. I guess my expectations were a bit too high and I underestimated that the Munich "clique" mentality finds its way into even the most headstrong of us after a while here...
A big plus though is the liberal implementation of the words "Native-English Speakers", many thanks for whoever invited the 2 Swedish birds, made my evening!!

Great party! There's never going to be a great location or fast service when 230 folks are out on the town, and I like stepping out from time to time. I mean, we do so much at pubs already with 3 euro beer. Nice to be able to wear a dress, sip martinas, and generally feel fabulous. Besides, I got to see showem's mini skirt again...

@Heinrich that really wasn't the place to make new buddies (unless you count the Swedes...)
come along on a Tuesday night, then it's a smaller crowd around a pub table and the clique thing isn't an issue.
I agree, last night was a bunch of groups (I don't know about you but I would never go to an event like that on my own anyway), especially the split between TT and MDC was noticeable. But actually I don't think Toytown is clique-driven at all, it's very laid back (I've only been a member since May and have met soooo many cool people)

I had a very good time last night- thanks Editor Bob.
people: fantastic, as always
drinks: my service couldn't have been better, but I guess I did have my own personal waiter...
music: to be honest, I didn't really take notice until they played "Pump Up The Jam" & "Ice Ice Baby" (oh god- what does that say about me)

I liked the bar tenders - not conceited, graceful movements, natural smiles,
in short great prof service. Interior design pleasant color scheme, loosely arranged seating landscapes, I got the occasional evil look from perfect strangers - perhaps there is a divide? I dont care. I just enjoyed being there.

i just hope editor bob didn't spend too much on the photographer. he gave some girl a five minute induction course in photography and then left it in her hands so he could hit on a blonde babe. from about 11pm onwards all he did was snog snog snog away! (and i'll never know how he managed to pull her. guess a camera in your hand can make up for many things!

I guess my expectations were too high. Still would have liked a dance floor, wife and I don't get out often (babysitter costs aren't cheap either) and we really would have liked to dance on a real dance floor.
Becks or Erdinger Champs was the only beer available and in American size bottles for €4 (the bartenders never gave me the correct change back). Wife had Caipi's, the first a bit sweet, but we got that taken care of and the cocktails were normal Munich overpriced so not much to complain about there. Also, great selection. I guess no dance floor and the beer price/choice were the real dissappointments.
I do have a life outside of TT and so I am not a "regular" to events. Been here seven years and speak German, so have other people to do and things to see. Everyone I talked to had either never heard of TT, never posted, or had just joined.
Still, all in all, had fun and will come to the smaller events where it might be more relaxed and easier to put faces and names together.

I tend to agree with Erurovol! I guess H and Q isn´t "my bag". 8 Euro tickets, ok, but then 4 Euro Becks(.33l) on top of it, come on! I don´t plan on going back to the same venue again. Just not into the whole Munich clique thing, vibes of which I definitely picked up there last night.
I knew what kind of place this was right away when the bartender tipped himself, with MY hard earned money...bastards...
The question then is, so why did I have another one? Good question. Actually, I planned on departing sooner rather than later, however must say that it was an interesting crowd so as I chatted - I stayed...
Bottom line, I stayed ´cause of the crowd not cause of the venue!

I reckon next time we just take get hold of an old wharehouse, possibly one of the ones where a lot of dnb parties are held, charge people maximum 2 euros "donation" entry, and just sell bottled beer straight out of the crate for no markup. The only real expense would be the dj. Hell even better than that would just be people bring CDs along and play whatever they want. Thats the kind of vibe people can really chill out in without feeling under dressed or not trendy enough.
EDIT: I mean nothing against the shicky micky style of the last few TT parties, I just think it would be cool to try a different format, I think it would suit the laid back attitude of the TTers rather well.

@kza - - - yes, but I recall when the last TT party was at Zweite Heimat, which was just an empty room with only bottled beer or vodka with lemon on offer, that TT's complained that this venue was too dumpy.
I guess you just can't please everyone, but I think that an upscale party every four months is fair.
besides, TT offers a great service to us, and I don't mind paying for the 8 euro ticket (which was actually $9.80 for me, since I make dollars).

I think it's really a nominal cost for both party and MDC. but doesn't this hurt -

the dollar was slightly on top of the euro right before I got to Germany, then it flip-flopped and has been that way since for me (I'm paid in $ as well).
You think we will get any relief beesting? maybe after Nov.?

Thanks for the tip on the MDC. I just might have to stick to TT events, as they're already sapping my sorely lacking student funds...
Yes I had a great time too, dont get me wrong I wasnt complaining, I would just be interested in how it would be as an experiment.
I didnt go to Zweite Heimat so I cant really comment too much but its not really what I had in mind, the places I am thinking of dont even have names.
I have absolutly no problem with the 8 euros, I didnt even consider it as an entry fee to the party, i was happy to pay it as a source of funding for TT which gives me much more than 8 euros worth of enjoyment per quarter.
I wasnt really thinking in terms of money generation though, more like vibe generation.
Yep upscale 4 times per year is cool, 0 downscale ones though? A bit of balance would be really cool.

well then Kza, organise a party!
We could have a TT christmas party at "Formul 1", it's actually a youth club but it ROCKS! You hire the whole place out, there's a big entry area, kitchen, lounge, area downstairs with table football and table tennis, and then an actual dancefloor with funky lighting and DJ box! And it costs something like €150 to hire. The only negative note? People over about 6'4'' have problems on the dancefloor, it is designed for midgets. There's another one just up from Enchiladas which was pretty cool too, although just one big room (with a stage).
The one with the dancefloor:

There is another place in Munich we can rent out...but I still think we should support Harry. The place is called The Loft and it's near the old KunstparkOst (direct on Ostbahnhof). I think it's only used for private parties... Siemens/Infineon had their International mixed parties there and it wasn't that bad. It could be a little small though...depending on the number of people that show up. Just a thought. JB probably has heard of this place??
chewy
Aug 27 2004, 5:16 pm
I agree a dance floor would be a welcome change, and unfortunately the arc doesnt have it. If we rent a huge hall-style/warehouse thing can hazza do the booze, i dunno how the licensing laws work here.
Otherwise i reckon we go for just Toytown, then we can act as silly as we want without noses in the air!

Aug 27 2004, 5:19 pm
regarding the money up front:
u don't have to pay anything to hire out bars (even ones like Harpers and Queens). U only have to guarantee that a certain amount will be drunk (and with a TT party, you're onto a sure thing

). during the week, this amount is very reasonable (or can be negotiated) wherever u go as they're never packed on a normal week day. i'm almost certain that's why ed bob has the parties in bars where there are then often no dance floors and has it on a week night.
difficult finding a bar with a dancefloor that is small enough for the kind of night u want to organise. i do know one though. it's a bit of a dodgy den, with small kitschy eighties disco dance floor and flashing lights. forgotten the name but it's basically on the road that runs parallel to the english garden - is it koeniginstr? from the outside, you'd never know it was a club. maybe someone else has the name of the place?
canuck
Aug 27 2004, 5:19 pm
The Loft has a decent sized dance floor (DJ overlooking dancefloor)...with around 6 sit down tables on one side and a few more standup tables near the back. Only one relatively small bar though...It's probably too small though...It could hold around 120 people max.
Ellewood: The name of the dodgy club is Alte Galerie...I actually like that place!!

Aug 27 2004, 5:27 pm
There are many local joints in various neighborhoods that would really surprise you once you go through the doors. The one that I used to go to all the time in Allach had an intimate bar/lounge that fit 30+, the disco area was quite large and fit maybe 120+ and pool tables in the back. Problem for a place like this is no one would find it and it has no public transport for miles. Wish that was here in Friemann! Really a great place.

Aug 27 2004, 5:44 pm
If there is music playing and there is a floor, you have your dancefloor. What's this necessity to have some roped off area to do your boogie? Yes, it was too crowded earlier in the evening, but by 11 or so there was lots of room to dance. That's about the time needed for people to get in the groove anyways.

I could not disagree more.
When I was a child, I did childish things like going to a dance club at 11 and dancing till dawn, now that I have a child, I go dancing at 9 and start to think about going home at 11, especially when there is no dance floor.
(child can also = I have to go to work the next day for those without children)
