Do any of you know whether or not there is a VA hospital in Germany and where it is? I could use the phone number also if you happen to have it. If there isn't a VA Hospital do you know where a veteran can be treated in Germany?
Timmeh
Is there a reason that you can't go to a regular hospital?

Depending on your location try contacting any of the following listed. Not sure whose open at all and/or to vets but google should be able to sort you out.

Bamberg Health Clinic
Heidelburg Army Hospital
Landstuhl Regional Medical center
Wuerzburg Army Hospital

If your in the South, I guess Wuerzburg might be the most convenient system for you? Looks like they have facilities in several cities and they work with Vets. Good luck and good health!

What's the difference between a veteran and a regular patient from earth? I'm sure patients can be treated anywhere. German hospitals do have an excellent reputation!

But the German hospitals will charge, while the US hospitals (Military hospitals) won't. It's just one of the benefits of being a vet.
And what if the person doesn't have German krankenkasse, then they really won't get anything from the german Hospitals..
(Unless they pay in cash)

Check out some of the medical center links in this US Army list, M.Rynish. Maybe it's a start.

Hi:

You're right on! When I joined the VA Club / American Legion in Loveland, Colorado, I learned a lot about the benefits available to American Veterans. From what I was told it's all about military bureaucracy but it is free.

I appreciate all the input. I'll follow up on this matter. I've been trying to figure this situation out for a couple of months. This really helps.

Thanks
Mike

just a reality check. There is only one ARMY "hospital" in Germany, now that WBG is closed. All the rest are outpatient family practice clinics.

There is a "space available" policy, and last I heard LSL is mostly only seeing active duty soldiers.

So If you have a serious chronic medical problem, then just because you are a VET, does not mean you will be able to receive the treatment you need, but will be referred onto the German economy.

May take a while to get in, so if you are on meds, than don't wait until you run out.

This is an issue we see a lot with VETS who have chosen to stay in Germany. If that is the case it is HIGHLY recommended that you get German or other health insurance that will cover you in the German health care system. if not, it is a disaster (financial and medical) waiting to happen, as the resources are just no longer there with the downsizing.

I'd be a bit surprised if the situation were anything other than what gemini describes.

Many vet hospitals stateside are struggling to help veterans get the services they need and are entitled to. I can't imagine the situation would be better outside the US than inside.
