Thursday night drinks in Berlin

I think the weather looks promising, and it's a good idea!

Are we going to wander around like idiots trying to find everyone tonight or is someone actually going to post a meeting place? Any newbies coming tonight need to be able to find us too don't forget. There will probably be lots of English speakers there if the weather is nice...

never been there either, but for the love of crimeny (or sake of clarity [always mix them up]), let's just meet in the middle. i presume there's a middle. if there isn't, then god help us all.

I vote we all wear "funny" hats. It'll make us easier to find each other (in theory).

I will be a little late...otherwise I would volunteer to go along and find us a nice spot then report back to Toytown via text messaging someone, or something...They've changed the layout this year, and I've only been there once since then, and I was really drunk, so can't remember any good meeting points. The first people there should tell the bar staff to direct anyone who asks for Toytown to where they're sitting - maybe cowboy hats could be worn??? Sarah???
Or maybe just say newbies should be there at 8 - everyone can meet at the entrance and go in, and anyone who gets there later can text someone to find the group...???

So since no one seems to have any brilliant ideas they want to post up I'd like to suggest a bar on Kastanian Allee. I'm fairly sure it's called Cafe la Boum, it's right on the North East corner of Kastanian Allee and Oderberger Str. They've always got plenty of space outside and big umbrellas over the tables just in case.

Still a bit new to the city, where abouts is this, ie district?

Hint: you live there.

i'm kind of a newbie to Toytown, and have only gone to one of the thursday night get togethers... how will i be able to spot you all?

i've got a pic up i'll be there - quite a few of the others have pics in their profiles too and we are normally the only group speaking english faster than the speed of light (in other words we stick out like dogs b@lls)

I am sure that someone will mention to the bar staff that we have decended on their premises, so if there is a problem just ask! I have a picture too as does Global girl!

yeah, i had a great time too, i am going to try to make it a weekly thing for myself... hopefully i can keep it up!

couldn't make it this week, but will definately be there next thursday. If anyone has any suggestions for a bar feel free to post it up. it doesn't have to be anywhere spectacular, but it's nice to vary the bar from week to week.

For Thursday, I'd like to nominate one of the two biergartens in the Tiergarten.

The first is right on the path between Tiergarten Sbahn and Zoologisher Gartens. It has an "indoor" area if it rains.

The second is deeper inside Tiergarten (much larger and nicer IMHO), but no covered area that I saw when I was there. It's a little skewed to get to I'll see if I can find a map if the weather's nice.

Both have good food, and decent drinks, and excellent "by the water seating.

That one is called Schleusen-Krug. It's right by a footbridge over the river.

I'd be down with that - 24, sunny on Thurs scheduled, and its the closest one to me yet...I can actually bike there in a reasonable amount of time.

Sounds good to me too - I'll definitely try to make it. This will be my first TT drinks...

well, seeing as all my translations seem to be done (although you can't really discount getting a job before thursday evening), i technically should be there. weren't we in schleusenkrug before? wouldn't be against it. the barmaid looks like the lovely clare daines. mmm, clare daines.

I'm seeing Rain and 25 on Thursday. Perhaps we should plan on the Schleusen-Krug which has an indoor area.

It's between the Zoologisher Garten and Tiergarten Sbahn/Ubahn stations.

From the Zoologisher Garten S/Ubahn-

Head toward the bus exit signs. Turn so that the main bahnhof is to your left and walk the length of the station (away from the bombed out church and kurfurstendamm) - you'll cross a little parking area - and you'll notice most of the crowd is heading into a path in the trees. Walk straight on it for about 1/4 to 1/2 mile.

The Schleusen-Krug will be on your Left.

From the Tiergarten Sbahn -

Exit going down the main set of stairs and cross the 17 of Juli Str. Go under the bridge and take the first path to the Right heading into Tiergarten. You'll pass an old gas lamp post (4 small globes surrounding a large one) and then go across a footbridge with a spillway on the left. Up a set of stairs, and you'll see the Schleusen-Krug on your Right.

If it's Not raining, I say we try for someplace on the River side tables. If it is, shoot for the indoor area of the restaurant.
