) and look forward to catching up. See you there.

The batton was handed on to wiggle in the wee small hours, so it looks like she's up next.

Hmm, I was there, but all but one of the people I spoke to were not from Toytown. Good reason to get out, and met some nice people anyway.

Jun 1 2007, 2:27 pm
Geez, where were you and how did you miss the hoardes outside the bar???
krostitzer
Jun 1 2007, 5:17 pm
maybe i was a little late?? around 11 or so, when I came in, the one guy i spoke to told me everyone had been kicked back into the bar. There were a lot of people in there, but like I said, those who I struck up conversation with were not from Toytown ... the others who were obviously speaking english were pretty much engrossed in their dates/partners/etc. I just hung around the end of the bar drinking cocktails until some of my friends came ... so I wasn't all alone ... no big deal, I'll try again next time when I can make it.
"Hi, Kommst du aus Toytown?"
"Eeeh? Toytown?"
- smiling - "Ja, Ich komme aus Toytown..."
Nice ice breaker anyway...
Yeah, by 11pm a good chunk of the TT crowd had left for Hairy Mary's.
The thing about going to a club with a DJ is that it might not be conducive to conversation.
krostitzer
Jun 1 2007, 5:40 pm
well, the DJ is probably also one of the bartenders in this case, which in all likelihood will be myself for the next few weeks. but you have a good point. Thing is, if a tribe of similarly-striped people were to show up, the environment could be made to adjust accordingly (musically and thematically). It depends if you prefer a structured atmosphere, which the Mudd Club is not, or a chaotic and unpredictable one, which it tends to be under certain conditions. There are advantages and drawbacks to each.
I posted the suggestion in a previous message, but edited it out so as not to appear to be overtly prostyletizing, which is not my intent. However with Gooner Gal's suggestion, here's what I had posted:
Have you considered meeting at The Mudd Club? On the 14th, 21st & 28th there's an open lounge (no cover, dj, plus an open mic for the entertainers) and, when there is a decent-sized crowd, we'll have 2 Euro burgers on the grill
http://muddclub.de/termin.php?date=2007-06-14Just a suggestion if you're short of ideas, etc. I'm fairly new to Berlin and probably know less about meetup spots than the rest of you do, but, hey, it'd certainly work for me

Gooner Gal has kindly passed on the baton to me after our lovely outing at the Mini Bar. I'm going to set the Wayback Machine to February or so and set our weekly gathering for Thursday, June 7, at "Bar an der Karl-Marx Allee," Karl-Marx-Allee 36.
There is no sign outside, but you can't miss it; it's the one that looks like a big glass cube, right next to Cafe Moskau. It's about a 5-minute walk from Alex or you can pop up at the U5 Schillingstrasse stop and there you are.
I won't be able to make it until 8:30, but if anyone else wants to start at 8, go for it. See you there!

Thankyou..
ScotsLassinBerlin
Jun 7 2007, 9:50 am
If you read Wiggles Post above, it tells you how to get there. Here is a tip though...if you are walking away from Alexanderplatz along Karl Marx Allee then the bar is on the right hand side.
See you there
Also, the Bar is still in Mitte, not Friedrichshain.

Now if I can just remember whether to get out the front or the back of the U-Bahn station (I did it wrong last time).

I haven't participated much lately because I was actually busy planning my final and permanent move to Berlin (which is obviously done now). I did go to a meetup once last september which was fun. I am not 100% sure I can go tonight but will try. I hope showing up around 9:30 will be ok. I think this place is walking distance from where I live, which is nice and convenient. Maybe I'll see you then.

i would love to join but dont know how safe it will be for me to get home late at night as i live in the styx...shoenefeld..has anyone else had an issue catching public transport late at night by themselves?

Jun 7 2007, 1:55 pm
I think the last S9 leavesWarschaur Str for Schoenefel Airport at 00:55, so public transport should not be a problem. Gets you to the Airport at 01:21,
Maybe you have further conntection from there?

i do but will definitly cab it at that time..but thanks will try my best to get there...need a few drinks and some company

There were two black umbrellas left outside the bar last night. I have them, so if the owner would let me know we can arrange to meet so that you can get them back! Should be sunny today though

I was actually going to suggest an outdoor venue myself, but just checked the forcast and it sounds like occassional showers leading into perhaps a storm in the evening.

Well, you could do that, and then go to The Bird if it does rain. (Although then you'll be stuck lugging around the beer.)
