Greetings from France. Have a great time tonight and have a beer for me (they're half the price in Berlin, so it should be a good way to save money).
johnny
more like 1/6th. i think it's €1.30 for a sternburg in morgenrot.
Camomilla
Hello, I'm new, and looking forward to finding you guys tonight at Morgenrot at around 8:30. By what -- other than loud English? -- sign will I recognize you?

My name's Becky, thirtysomething French professor, see you soon...
todcreative
Firstly,

I'll try and get out to drinks tonight, but due to the previous two night's champions league matches I may have to spend some time with the girlfriend.

Secondly,

Johnny, where do you play football? I've been looking for some people to kick around with.

Thirdly,

Have you ever had Thursday night drinks at Goldman's Bar in the Circus Hostel? I was there for the match last night and it's a majority English-speaking crowd with 2 for 1 Pints of Warsteiner from 9-10... You can't beat that.

Travis
johnny
erm, we don't play anywhere just yet. trying to set it up at the moment. nothing serious. drunken hilarity and bit of kicky-aroundy are called for with this weather. i'm sure there are ample places we could play. preferably on grass though.
wilcohawk
I like football. Can I play Quarterback?

Man, that joke never gets old. I love having a 6-year-old mind.
EnglishmanInBerlin
I'm afraid I can't make it tonight.. the first in quite a while I think I'll have missed sad.gif Anyhow, will try & be there next week. Oh, & the 2 for 1 Warsteiner sounds good.. don't think we've been there before.. perhaps you'd like to take up the challenge of hosting a Thursday Night Drinks sometime soon Travis? Hope everyone has a great time tonight! Cya soon! smile.gif
globalgirl
Scary resemblance. (actually doing papermache with some of the kids I work with. One girl made this last week- actually will be painted as a woman...)

globalgirl
sorry, forgot the cowboy hat...
travelnate
How do you say "restraining order" in German?
globalgirl
it's a complete coincidence... I swear...
stubbs
hehehehe

"Einstweilige Verfügung"? Why are you asking? rolleyes.gif
ScotsLassinBerlin
I worried why you actually know that Mike!!!
Mike the Brit
Quite right -- so you should. smile.gif

ok maybe this is lame because i have never been to a Thursday Night Drinks, and i am suggesting a venue/night where i am the dj,
but oh well, here i go...
this Thursday Reckless Operation Heads West, to Monarch on Skalitzer Str across from the Kottbusser Tor Ubhf.
if you have not been to this bar, it really is sweet. just opened by the folks who book shows at Festsaal Kreuzberg,
it is directly across the street from the U1 platform, with an amazing view of the trains and traffic
hope to see you there (after 22)
johnny
that actually sounds kinda good. (for a newbie tongue.gif)
globalgirl
does sound cool. is there any more specific info for the bar? website...

Was also going to suggest a later start time of 9pm instead of 8 since it seems most people start trickling in around then.
jtw
So I think this place is at Skalitzer Str. 134, although I've seen a few variations of the address. I don't find a lot of info on the place, like does it serve food, what kind of atmosphere, etc.
Camomilla
hello everybody,

I don't think I'll be able to make it this week, so have a good time without me! Enjoy your new place -- Looking forward to seeing you all again another time.

Becky
oldsoul
Just round the corner. How rolleyes.gif . I'll be there.
lolo
I would like to suggest weather permitting the strand bar opposite the bode museum.this week.its easy to find at least get there for sun down what ever time that at.then when it gets too cold we'll go somewhere else.
globalgirl
sounds like the weather isn't supposed to be fantastic this week, so we should plan on a back up indoor venue. any ideas?
globalgirl
I might head out tonight to look at a couple possibilities for Thursday night. but if anyone knows of any bar where we'd fit 15+ random english speakers and isn't too too pricey feel free to post. (ie, I you pass by Kastanian Allee or similar just jot down the name and address of almost any bar..)
globalgirl
So since it raining, I'm not going to be super creative in this weeks choice of venue. We have our Aussie friends to thank.

I vote that we go to Belushi's this Thursday.

I went there for a drink last week. Being familiar with their London Bridge partner back in London, I was curious to see what they'd do with a location in Berlin. It seems like a decent place. I especially like that they do actual Strongbow Cider. But they also do a couple German beers too along with the manditory Fosters.

If we get there early enough (ie; at least a few of us around the 8:30 mark) we should be able to take over the upstairs.
jtw
Plus, if we stay there late enough, we can watch the Sabres-Senators Game One at 1am.
Artist_Aus_Seattle
I vote BYOB&W and hanging out in the park
gooner_gal
Well I won't be joining you! According to the weather forecast it'll be 14° and raining...
Artist_Aus_Seattle
ah, good ole seattle sunshine!
globalgirl
As soon as the weather permits, we´ll definately head outdoors.

We might be getting a quick window of sunshine on Sunday, so perhaps when I´m done working at the market (also weather and health permitting) a few people´d like to meet for drinks in the park?

By the way.. You´ve all gotten very quiet with your posting in Berlin. Who else is coming this Thursday?
evilbill
Where and when does it all kick off? I'm not new to Berlin, but wouldn't mind expanding my English-speaking social circle count beyond its current reduced circumstances (i.e., zero). I am an older gentleman however (33)...

ohhhhh
Kay
Amazing, isn't it? wink.gif
evilbill
Hmm, add "daft" to "old" - I only needed to look at the thread ("May 10 at Belushi's Bar) to have my question answered - pfff...
desertrat
I will plan to be there too...I've been "skulking" around the website for some weeks now and every Thursday I say I'm gonna go and then bail. Sounds like there will be other (old tongue.gif..haha ) newbies too..no time like the present. So, count me in..good way to start my vacation (Friday). how will I recognize the group (other than the often mentioned "check out our photos")?
Diane

Hey, you are not the only one, I'm not new on the forum and I have been meaning to take the plunge and go to one of those Thursday night thingies but I know I'm not going to fit in with all the young trendy folk there... unsure.gif I better stay home with a hot mug of cocoa and Eastenders on telly! wink.gif
globalgirl
I do actually look like my profile photo and unless of some great tragedy I'm usually always there on Thursdays and I try to get there as close to 8 as possible.

I shall perhaps wear my cowboy hat to make it easier, and like I said, we'll try to take over the upper floor.

Thursday nights are all about meeting new people in Berlin, so there's usually a huge mix in ages and professions. That's why I also prefer to start closer to 8 so that some people can still make it home at a reasonable time (the definition of "reasonable" has an enormous range in Berlin).
jtw
No need to feel old; several of us Thursday night regulars are pushing 40 (at least one from the other side wink.gif).

I'm no fan (honest guv), but you can get Eastenders here? How does that work?
Kanga
Hi, I am a Newbie. I will be there tonight to have a few quite or loud ales!! biggrin.gif
Chitown Chica
I'm on a deadline for work, but will be there if I finish up in time.

By cable, Kabel Deutschland, get the 'Home' or 'English Package' and you get BBC Prime, Sky News, MTV Hits, VH1 Classic and many other English speaking channels...
Great for those who can't have a dish put up or the right reception for Sky! wink.gif
evilbill
Thanks Diane - I had thought about this, but isn't BBC Prime purely old Holby City and Last of the Summer Wine repeats?!? And I thought you had BBC 1, 2, 3 and 4!
globalgirl
So quick recap. Tonight. anytime from 8pm. Everyone and anyone is welcome to just come along. I'll be wearing my cowboy hat to help spot us.

Belushi's
Rosa-Luxemburgstr. 41

U2 Rosa Luxemburgerstr. (exit volksbühne)

Oh! and I'm going to bring along a couple books just in case anyone wants to swap.
jtw
I think I may go over there early and see if I can get them to put the USA-Finland game from the Ice Hockey World Championships (faceoff at 18:15) on one of the TVs.
scientist_H
I'll be there too. I came to one of these about 4 months ago, but haven't found the time to go again. Might bring a book or two as well.
belle
Sorry i can't make it...I am not in Berlin at the moment! But alas...i shall return...but couldn't resist another famous Texas summer...!

And 33 is NOT...i repeat NOT old...

xoxo
Belle!
