Alright drinkers, we got gray skies over Berlin (just like Johnny called it) but the babysitter's been booked and you can't hold this girl back from her first official TT thurs nite drinks!!
Looking at the
sign up sheet we are a tiny but brave crew assembling this evening.
Anyone else in?

I find that for the most part no one uses the sign up sheet for Thursday night drinks since there's usually room for whoever wants to come along. We normally get anywhere from 15 to 30 people every week.
See you all later tonight!

Well, seems my travel plans got canceled, so I'm stuck here this week. Where's this weeks (12 April) drinks going to be?
I may need to swing by and partake.. Now if only we can arrange something for Fri and Sat too

Since no one's objecting, I take it I have the baton for this week. I've got a place in mind -- Prenzlauer Berg, of course -- which I'll post on Monday. You're gonna like it.
Frohe Ostern y'all.

Drinks this week will be at the Adele, Greifswalder Str 227, right at the corner of Heinrich-Roller-Str, in Prenzlauer Berg. We'll meet at 8pm, as usual. The M4 tram stop 'Am Friedrichshain' is about 50 feet away, or alternatively you can use the M2 tram stop 'Prenzlauer Allee / Metzer Str' and walk 3 minutes to the other end of Heinrich-Roller-Str.
In a part of Prenzlauer Berg that sometimes lacks style,
The Adele stands out. It's a great little lounge and restaurant attached to a boutique hotel. The place is very hip, and well-designed, and has good drinks and music (and food, if you're hungry). But you can still get a beer for under €2.50 and a bottle of wine for under €9.
See you there.

For once in my life, I don't have any classes on Thursday evening, so in theory, I might be on time. Oh, and I will also be bringing my contribution to the earring swap shop, Karli!! This could become a popular weekly addition to the book swapping...

Hey, long time offline. Have a drink for me on Thursday, I finally reserved an apartment!!
Going through this month and won't be finished till Jan08 but still... why wait till then to come back over...
Anyone know when the good festivals are over the summer?

What a great idea! Me too! Perhaps newcomers will be able to recognise our group in this way - "look for the girls with the odd earrings"...Then again, maybe the tried and tested "listen for the loud English-speaking group" might be easier. I think this could be the beginning of a new Toytown trend.

Sounds good to me... I'll have a black baseball hat, so if you some some guy that looks lost, that’s probably me.
On a sidenote. Is there anything going on this Friday night? Would anybody be up for another night out? (Movie/curry/sushi/drinks/etc)

I walked by the Adele this morning and they've decided to dig up the pavement outside the bar, so it looks a bit of a mess out front. But don't be afraid, there's a cool place hiding behind the rubble.

Thanks everyone for making it out last night -- I hope you all had a good time.
Despite my best efforts, though, I once again failed to pass the baton. Would anyone like to claim it, and bring us to your favorite bar?

I've been meaning to take the baton on behalf of beer drinkers who can only have so much Hefe, Pils, and Schwarzbier, and take us to the Haus der 100 Biere aka Mommsen-Eck. It has the added benefit of being in Charlottenburg, for geographical variety, but still close to the Stadtbahn.
Coordinates:
http://www.mommsen-eck.de/english/Mommsen-Eck
Haus der 100 Biere
Mommsenstrasse 45
S Charlottenburg/U7 Adenauer Platz
They also have non-beer libations, so don't worry if you're not a beer drinker.
I haven't been there myself yet (although I once looked at an apartment on the opposite streetcorner), but I've looked into them online, I'm curious, and their beer selection looks acceptable. (E.g., from the US they have Miller (sorry), Anchor Steam and Sam Adams.)
Shall we?

"Alsterwasser" (Alster water - pils with Fanta), a "Braunen Bären" (brown bear - Guiness with Coca Cola), a "Krefelder" (dark beer with Coca Cola), a "Grünen Süden" (green south - pils with Curacao) or even an "African Star" (pils with Campari.)
Think I'll stick to the pure stuff thanks...
EDIT: EUR 4.55 for a pint of Newcy brown?!???! And EUR 4.95 for a 0,3l Castlemaine XXXX? Bring your savings boys & girls...
jtw
Apr 13 2007, 10:43 am
Well, they do also have liquor and wine. Maybe not overly fancy cocktails.
And, yes, it is kind of pricey. But I don't think they have a lot of competition in their niche market.

Apr 13 2007, 11:08 am
I'm wondering if we could do this as a 'tuesday' or 'wednesday night' drinks drinks night, since I fear that the price range may keep a few of us 'thrifty-er spenders away...
gooner_gal
Apr 13 2007, 11:28 am
I don't deny that there is probably not much call for Castlemaine XXXX and beer from Belguim/Turkey/Namibia but I am then not prepared to pay EUR 4,00 for a pint of Berliner/Warsteiner/KöPi/Jever that you can get for EUR 2,50-3,00 in a normal bar. Why the EUR 3,75 price tag for a 0,33l Heineken? Or EUR 4,35 for a 0,33l Corona and EUR 3,95 for a 0,33l Foster's. You don't pay that in Munich for Foster's...
Sure, those who want to try the more exotic beers who am I to stop you, but I will either be there and nurse my one pint or not go... I think globalgirl gets where I'm coming from...
And yes, I know, I am complaining AGAIN...
Beer list for those who are interested...

See, this is the part where you would usually say "Why don't you propose someplace instead of just complaining?"

Actually, I have an alternative myself (it's in Prenzlauer Berg--again):
El Curandero
http://www.kneipen-suche.com/berlin-el_curandero-7140.htmlSchönhauser Allee 10
U2 Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz
It's just up the road from White Trash; I've been there a couple of times, and it's always been fairly empty, but a comfortable place to have a beer, so it should be suitable for a big group. Haven't tried the Mexican food.

The Mommsen-Eck is a grim eck really grim.julips is not far from ther or cheakers they do a nice break fast.or there is a nice place next door to cheaker called the grill or some thing hot little cook there she'll cook you any thing to burn youtwice an a very sluty waittress I might have beers of the world but thats all its got going for it. Its grim ..see you all on thursday.
I suggest the the ambulance on oranienburger str or the sophien club.On sophien str or "the bird" on falk plz in deepest p-burg.
But I am with global girl.Lets go south to araby more often or to the lakes.tehr a great swiss place on in the wienburg park just out side mitte.Great for a sundowner.
lets not always end up on p-burg as the cooly sorts i meet there all the time annoy me.
People seemed happy with El Curandero, so as the person who first grabbed the baton, I'll say we're going there next week. Sounds like we may be in
Kreuzberg the week after that...

I guess I'll never be picking Thursday night drinks in Berlin, as jtw stole my one and only choice (because there are so few places in Berlin, it's so ridiculously small, and not at all an ever-winding sentence, like some places).
Oh well...enjoy it. I love it. Say hi to Yvonne for me.

Longtime lurker on the forum but finally going to make a post! I moved here from Ireland and have been in Berlin for the past month and a half I will try to be there tonight. I may be a bit late arriving, have German class this evening but hope to see some people there!

On the topic of this Thursday night's drinks... Anyone is free to go ahead and name a bar. Just as long as we can squeeze 20 some english speaker in, and the drinks aren't too expensive most anything is fine.

It's supposed to be 25 degrees and sunny on Thursday. I wish I knew which outdoor Biergarten to suggest.
Well, we already went to Schleusen-Krug a couple of weeks ago, and Loretta am Wannsee is presumably too far for everyone. ;-) Isn't there one called Piergarten im Tiergarten?

Ok, since it's already Tuesday, and I hate leaving the choice till the last minute, I vote we go for the tried and trusted
Morgenrot on Kastanian Allee. Near Eberswalder Str Station.
It means we know what we're getting and we can scout out bars/bier gartens for next week.

Sweet. Good plan.
I won't be there, because I'm in London this week. But try to enjoy it despite my absence.
(I probably won't be to any of these for about a month, actually. So Sarah, when you're done with the paper mache dolphin head, can you make a life-size paper mache of me? Preferably with a dodgy mustache, and a cowboy hat, and duck boots, and with a bourbon in my hand. And then you can bring it along on Thursdays so that guys won't miss me so much. And on nights besides Thursday, you can put paper-mache-Nate on a bar stool in
Hairy Mary's, so they don't miss me there either.)

Who's saying that girls can't play football? (ok, so I really can't, but there might be some girls out there...?)
I'll be bringing along a few newbie, wanna-be berliners.
