Thursday night drinks in Berlin

Walk up Kollwitzstraße, turn right on Belforter Straße, and turn left on Diedenhofer Straße. It will be on your left, almost across from the Wasserturm.

We tend to take over a large part of most bars we go to, especially Hairy Mary's. So we'll be an easy group to find.

Global Girl and Debra, thank - you for posting about Vince. He was such a lovely guy, always up for doing something, he had a real lust for life and his career was about to take off with an offer from the Vancouver Olympics in Canada. I am at work right now, and may not be able to make it to drinks tonight, but if possible I would like to write a note to his parents so if I don't make it tonight can I meet up with you at a later time?

I am really in shock. Vince was such an upbeat and nice guy. I cant make it to drinks tonight, because I'm going to Hamburg but want to say that there is a good photo of him up in my gallery under canada day from 2007.

I remember talking to Vince a lot about his travels and impressions of Qatar where he worked on a few projects. It struck me how open minded he was - yet not too PC to have a laugh at funny cultural differences. He always had such a good attitude. Very sad.

I am so sorry to hear this. Having lost my boyfriend earlier this year I experienced so much support and so many kind messages that I know how much a sudden death affects our closely knit community. I am sending my thoughts to you, please forward my condolences to his family and friends. Give him a good wake and a send off from the heart.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it to drinks last night. For anyone who still has something they would like to pass on to Vince's family, there will be a memorial meet-up soon. I'll post the info once the details are finalized. Or, feel free to call or PM me.

so when is the next meeting? i'm kinda new to berlin and looking for english-speaking getogethers.

Every single Thursday. The venue depends on who posts a suitable location first. You don't have to be a regular to suggest a place, but it has to be somewhere that would suit around 40 people without having to really give advance notice,and relatively easily accessible to get to by public transportation.

Any suggestions on a venue for this week? I know a bunch of us will be attending the memorial for Vince at Belushi's, but I think it would be respectful to have the others meeting just for a Thursday night drink at another bar.

I'm a newbie, tourist from israel. I'd like going to a new place every evening, but a really nice pub i was in is Max und Moritz on Oranienstr. I'm not sure it can contain a group of 30 if not booked ahead.
Maybe it's more suitable to the Alternative, but their thread isn't updated.

From the website it looks more like a restaurant, but it's hard to see as there weren't many pictures. Would there be any space for people to move about and mingle? Any one else know this bar?

Why is it that this thread always gets so condescending? This is a serious not a rhetorical question here. Isn't it just adults getting together at an alternating bar, and due to the fact that they are English speakers, can probably find one another? Is there some clique I'm not privy to?

i would love to make brilliant suggestions as to where to go but I don´t go out that much to different places... so I can only suggest places we have already been to...

Sorry, but I work with kids all day and they continuously need to be told what to do. I'm getting a little tired of doing the same with adults. There's quite a few people that come along to Thursdays, and everyone seems to enjoy it as they come back every week and every week we have a lot of new people.

My problem is with the lack of posting and contributing imput. You all can't just assume it will be taken care of for you every week. If you want some imput, you must speak up. It's also nice for new people who may be nervous about coming to know that there are actual people that come along.

I don't mean to be condescending in any way. Like I said before, it's just one of those weeks.

So, unfortunately I will not be able to come along this week. But as always I look forward to seeing you all (new people included) next week.

Monarch sounds interesting I have never been there. I think we have been to Belushis a lot and it would be nice to try out something new. My vote it Monarch.

people should note that the entrance can be a little bit difficult to find. there's a döner place across the passageway from the entrance. the entrance is a stairwell that looks like it leads to nothing. go up the stairs (it might be dark) and it's the door with "monarch" scribbled on it in marker. go through said door and you shall find what it is you seek.
