lolo
So it is in the Astro Bar in Simon-Dach-strasse, this week i'll be there.
globalgirl
My mom and brother are in town for the next couple weeks and they're very excited to come and meet everyone. My mom came once last september and had a great time.

See you all tomorrow. If the first couple people to the bar can remember to tell the bar staff we're from Toytown and where we're sitting just in case anyone has trouble spotting the large/loud english speaking crowd the bar staff can hopefully point you in the right direction.

A couple of us have photo's on our profiles to help spot us as well.
Polina
my hubby and I are also going to come tomorrow for our first meet-up. We're prolly gonna be a bit later though... around 9pm-ish. Looking forward to meeting you all. smile.gif

does anyone know if this place has tables outside?
It'd be nice to leave the office this evening for a beer outdoors.
vandyfan
I don't think so, but the place next door does. We could claim a table in the name of TT.
globalgirl
Where to this Thursday? We had a great crowd last week we ended up taking up most of their outdoor seating area, how about a beer garden this week? I promise I'll make an effort to remember my cowboy hat again.
Girl_Fred
So how about the place I suggested previously:

Heinz Minki in Xberg. Here's the link to their English site.
http://www.heinzminki.de/index.php?id=5&L=1

There's a map on their site under "Where & when".
Their address is: Vor dem Schlesischen Tor 3, 10997 Berlin (Schleusenufer).
U Bahn Schlesisches Tor is closest (9min walk); the distance to S / U Bahn stop Warschauer Straße is also manageable (15min)

The premises are rather large, albeit not quite as huge as Prater. So yes please, Globalgirl, if this ends up being this week's venue -- do bring your Cowboy hat by all means. In addition, I'll come equipped with pen, paper and a few pins to prop up a sign at their outdoors bar, and another one at one of the undoubtedly many tables we will end up occupying.

So what does everyone think?
MarcJ
Sounds good to me.
moni
Sounds great! it's a lovely place in the summer.

By the way, it's not clear from the website but they also have a restaurant, and like Girl_Fred mentioned last week, 'their pizza is spec--taaaaaaacular, as well as reasonably priced'. So you can get your dinner as well as drinks there directly.
ScotsLassinBerlin
I cant wait, is good to be back!
belle
Scotslass...where have you been??? and did you bring Hamish Clarke back with you?

xoxoxo

ScotsLassinBerlin
I wish!! I was in the U S of A! Good times!
Chat_Capone
ahhh, the heinzminki...bad part of town, but always good times there...the grille, pizza and inexpensive beer!
globalgirl
My mom and brother had a great time last week and are definitely looking forward to coming along again for their last Thursday in Berlin.

Putting the cowboy hat right in front of the door so I don't forget it.
Chat_Capone
One of the most obscure, unknown places right in Kreuzberg: Spindler & Klatt, www.spindlerklatt.com...very cool place.
MarcJ
I'd say S&K is pretty mainstream and quiet well known. I do agree that it's very cool, but if you're suggesting it for thursday drinks next week, I don't think it will work.
Kommentarlos
Lordy, even I've been to S&K. Enough said!

unless you are early enough to secure an outdoor table...i wouldnt say mainstream as an adjective...its definitely different.

Clärchen's Ballhaus is another good location (in their biergarten) or Cafe am Neuen See in Tiergarten...both great locations.
globalgirl
It would be great if we could find someone not all that busy with moving space so that we can

a)find the group more easily (sorry I wasn't wearing the cowboy hat for the whole evening last night, new haircut..)

and

b)stand up and mingle a bit more.
globalgirl
think we had a couple suggestions for this weeks venue last week. Anyone know of somewhere not too crowded with a bit of standing room so we can mingle a bit? With an average of 40+ people or so we need a place with a little space.
MarkR
You could always try Alter Krug although Dahlem may be a bit far south for all youPrenzlauer Bergers! It does have a lot of space though, which will be at a premium most places this Thursday with Germany playing.
todcreative
I suggested Deck 5 on Schönhauser Allee to a few people and got a really positive response. It's supposedly "Berlin's highest beach bar."

http://www.freiluftrebellen.de/news-und-blog
globalgirl
I can see people adventuring to the far reaches of Charlottenburg maybe, but I think Dahlem might be a bit of a stretch for a weeknight. Maybe as a weekend gathering sometime?

Has anyone been to this 'high' bar? thoughts?
MarcJ
Looks really good to me
globalgirl
I thought I saw somewhere that there might be a downturn in the weather. I haven't been able to check, but is there an indoor part just in case?
ScotsLassinBerlin
I looked at the photos on their website and cant see an indoor part! Also, because of the football we might have to meet want to meet a little earlier to guarantee seating. What do you reckon?
dipling
I reckon you're pretty darn cute. wink.gif

Somewhere I read that clouds are supposed to start moving in this evening, but the POP is only around 20%. It's more likely to rain tomorrow morning (60%).

i miss you guys, but I'm not sure if I'll make it this week. i hope to make it out again soon tho.
MarcJ
You're such a tease, dipling.
dipling
you're such a sl...y guy, MarcJ. tongue.gif
Feli
whoops <deleted> .--. wrong thread, sorry
globalgirl
hmm... any alternate ideas for an indoor venue maybe?
dipling
how 'bout MarcJ's place?
MarcJ
Everyone except dipling can come to mine.
dipling
I'm honoured to be the only exception and I'll live the rest of my life with the comforting thought of being safe and clear of that danger. laugh.gif
Chat_Capone
great venues:

Old emerald isle in Kreuzberg
Grafitti's at Adenauerpltz
Cafe am Neuen See
Strand Bar @ Monbijupark
Mokkabar in Xberg on Geneisenauerstr
Julep's New York Bar & Grill, near Olivierplz...always a really cool after work crowd in a real soho type bar.
globalgirl
hmm... ok, so a sports venue maybe not quite the choice during the football, also we need someplace indoors and not too busy (cheap would be nice too..) . What's this Graffiti place like?
MarkL
oh god now there's a MarkR, too? we need to work on our creativity.
jellybean100
hi I hope to come along to this, might not be able to check tomorrow anyone know the venue?
globalgirl
ok. guess it's time to make a decision quickly as it's Thursday morning already. I'm going to vote for Morgan Rot on Kastanian Allee, as I know for sure that it's got plenty of space indoors and is very cheap. It's also easy enough to get to. Also it's been weeks since we've been in Prenzlauerberg.
ScotsLassinBerlin
Sounds good to me!
globalgirl
We'll say Morgan Rot it is then.

See you all later, and we'll talk about choices for next week's venue.
Doktorantin
I haven't been to a Thursday night drinks since the LAST time you all were at Morgonrot, so perhaps I'll make a cameo tonight.
KellyfromKanada
Ha, I am at last back in Berlin and looking to go to the drinks night! I am however a little confused as to where we are meeting? Graffiti or the Deck? Is there an easy way to find you all? the last time I tried I never found anyone!
globalgirl
We're going to Morgan Rot on Kastanian Allee, sorry for the confusion

If the first couple people to the bar mention that we're with the Toytown group and tell them where you're sitting, hopefully they can help point us out to any new people.

I'll be there fairly early and have a profile photo, although my hair is now quite short.

hmm... ok, so a sports venue maybe not quite the choice during the football, also we need someplace indoors and not too busy (cheap would be nice too..) . What's this Graffiti place like?

Graffiti's Bar & Cafe (Grille) right on the corner of Adenauer Platz on Ku'damm, is a full service menu (everything freshly house made and extremely affordable - they make their own guacamolie, salsa, burgers, etc.) it's like what I would call a "Diner" menu...little bit of everything from tex/mex, german, american, italian, asian...but dont expect it to be as good and refined as a restaturant that specializes.

the rumour is that it is a laundering establishment for the Russian Mob...who knows, but as with other mob launderies, the service is absolute spectacular and friendly - not something you come across everyday in Berlin..

they have a lot of outdoor seating and two separate types of large spaces, connected by entrys...one is traditional, the other is larger, with flat screen TV's and generally the younger crowd hangs out and flirts. When smoking ban comes into effect, they have designated one the spaces.

Pros:
Full bar, full menu, ice cream, clean, good service, 3 star food for 1 star price.

Tree shaded Adenauerplatz, water fountain, good people watching location.

Right on Ku'damm, so celebrity spotting and high performance autos are in abundance (I see Lamborghini's, Aston's, Ferrari's, Maserati's, Bently's, etc. all the time)

Right on Bus rt. (many buses), U7 and 5 minute walk south from S Charlottenburg beltline (only 20 minutes to Hackeschermarkt)

Cons:
smack dab in the middle of Charlottenburg and maybe some do not want to commute that far.

if you go on the younger side, you may be annoyed with all the glod chains, Drakkar, gelled hair, Rossman perfumes, white pants tied at the bottom, loud obnoxious teens/20 somethings sending their mating signals. (the traditional cafe side and outdoors are the place to be)
KellyfromKanada
Great so Morgan Rot it is. Where on Kastanian Allee is it exactly? I just googled the place, but could not find it. I hope the weather holds, I seem to have misplaced by umbrella!
Ali_in_berlin
Just to clear things up, the place is called Cafe Morgenrot. The address is Kastanienallee 85, and the closest U-bahn stop is Eberswalderstrasse on the U2. Here is a link to Google maps.

See you all later!
danclarkie
hahah had a good time there this week even if my visit was fleeting, maybe will stay for longer next time!
(New) Dan
jellybean100
nice to meet you all, sorry I was so drunk! drinking mojitos all day will do it every time.
globalgirl
It's that time again. First person who suggests a bar that suits a mixed group of between 30 and 40 people in an easy'ish to get to location gets to pick this weeks location (ie: your chance to pick something close to home..)

I haven't checked on the weather forcast yet, but maybe something with an indoor option just in case.
