Hi,
can I jump in really early this time and suggest a Prenzlauer Berg location, please, for April 24?
That would be Intersoup, Schliemannstr. 31.
We've been there before. They have extra space in the basement (which we didn't need last time but could ask to be opened in case it's too crowded round the bar or in the back room). Plus I remember prices to be modest.

@ ketziner: Yes of course come along.
How about going back to Intersoup, Schliemannstr. 31 in Prenz'berg?
We've been there before. There's extra space in the basement if we need it. Drinks are reasonably priced and so is the small selection of food.

The place seemed decent the last time we were there and that was ages ago, so I think it would be nice to head there once more. Intersoup it is then since we've got a few positive votes and the week is starting to roll on.

If there first few people to the bar mention that we're with Toytown and tell them where you're sitting, so that as more people/new people show up they can ask the bar staff to point us out. But mostly just listen out for the loud english speaking group.

Hey! Just to let everyone know that theres a really really great berlin undergroud band playing tonight called Schwefelgelb at Bang Bang Club, near Hackescher Markt...
http://www.myspace.com/schwefelgelbThey are absolutly fab to watch live...really crazy and fun, so after some Toytown drinks you could pop along to this and check them out...not to sure on entrance fee but it should be less than 10 euros...but well worth it and i think they are on first so prob about 10 or 11pm !

There is a wonderful bar/beer garden in Weinburg park called Nova. I have been dying to go to. So I will this week as I am not going to Sweden this weekend.

I'm surprised that Global girl is against it as it's in her neck of the woods

Heh. Just trying to picture globalgirl as a yuppie. It's a pretty funny thought... obviously blue cow you've never met her. (Plus, of course, you totally and completely missed the friendly tone of her message. But that's fine; enjoy the riots and feel free to make a suggestion for next week.)

I didn't say I was against it. was just wondering if it was a statement or a suggestion.
If it was a suggestion what do people think of it as a choice? (indoor option in case of weather issues? and some beer gardens close kinda early)
Your leader has spoken.
(p.s. sorry we didn't go to your bar the other week B.Cow. perhaps some night you could set up a group for people who want to see the more adventurous side of Berlin.)

Ah yes, Blue Cow! The invisible group of silent sympathizers, too oppressed and downtrodden to speak out about globalgirl's reign of tyranny, terror and intimidation. They communicate with one another in secret -- a PM here or there, or perhaps an encrypted note baked into a loaf of bread hastily exchanged in the streets -- for fear of globalgirl's gulag. It's lucky they have found a brave champion like you to fight the power. I won't ask you to prove it: I know that their PMs to you were hastily destroyed, for fear of reprisal. I certainly won't ask you to NAME NAMES. All I can say, Blue Cow, is thank god for you: Toytown's anti-globalgirl contingent has finally found their Spartacus.
No, I'm just kidding: you're a douche. Globalgirl's at every single frickin' drinks session promptly at 8, on the edge of her seat looking for dazed or hesitant looking English ex-pats to ensconce. She's one of the very small handful of regulars who is there every week. That may not make her "leader" but it certainly makes her say in where we go count more than yours. Especially when your last "Thursday Night Drinks" suggestion looked like
Bartertown from Mad Max 3.
I'm cool with Nola's, if that is, in fact, the pub we're talking about.
ScotsLassinBerlin
Apr 30 2008, 8:27 am
Blue Cow, you can organise your own alternative weekly meet up. Thursday night drinks works just fine for the purpose it was set up. So stop bagging global girl on this thread, because without her I really dont think Thirsty Thursday would of continued this long.

so since it's been rather quiet on the deciding venue issue...
Nola's looks a bit fancier that what we're used to, but if they've got a decent beer garden it doesn't matter where we go really. Any thoughts from the other 25+ people that come along usually..?

I've been to Nola's and it wasn't as swish as the photos on the website make it appear to be. I'd say it's perfectly fine for a TT drinks night, either indoors or out. Preferably out though, if it's warm enough. Be sure to reserve ahead if you're inside.

can everyone please stop this ganging up on people (be in globalgirl, blue cow or anyone else). its very nasty and doesnt really give off the welcoming vibe that i presume the thursday night drink people want to give off.
telling people to' go back from where you came from' seems a bit out of order to me.
globalgirl
May 1 2008, 6:48 pm
I've moved to a lot of new cities on my own and find my enjoyment of that city depend greatly on whether or not you manage to meet the right people or not. The point of thursday night drinks is not to recruit people to become regulars every week, but hopefully for a few people to maybe run into and connect with like minded people who will allow them to enjoy berlin so much more than you would being isolated at home on your own day after day.
So the fact that people are getting together and connecting over their dislike of how Thursday night drinks is organised makes me happy. Not quite how it usually brings people together but it's still serving it's purpose in a round about way.
I've been trying to avoid arguing on this thread, but when someone who doesn't really 'get' Thursday drinks comes out with such a strong opening statement some backlash was unavoidable. Blue Cow even stated that they were going to get lynched for saying what they did on a open thread instead of just doing it privately in the first place.
We have quite a few people from quite different backgrounds and income levels that come along to drinks night so the sooner a (suitable) venue is chosen the better. Which means some weeks we don't have time to count votes and waffle on ideas until Thursday afternoon, sorry if that means one of us has to 'dictate' where we go.
The whole point is that there will be a few people at some bar every week, new people are definitely more than welcome to come along. A few people have posted their photo's on their profiles so that the group is a little easier to spot, as well as myself and a few other people do try to get there fairly early to grab a corner for the group and watch out for lost looking newbies.
Come along if you want to. Organise your own night out if you don't. easy as that. It's just drinks people.
my rant is over. See a few of you later.

Even though I totally pounced on bluecow, and still think he or she is acting like a twat, I agree. Anyone should feel welcome to come. Even bluecow, who I'll happily buy a drink. But all this petty jealousy and resentment over one bar being picked over another has to stop. The point is the people, not the place.
