Thursday night drinks in Berlin

I reckon we should go to Point of no Return.

I recommend Muschi Obermaier on Torstrasse 151 U-bahn Rosenthaler Platz
Been going there a bit lately. It's perfect. For those of you who know what Muschi means in German, don't worry. It's not a sex-club.

I propose this bar as an alternative to the previous suggestion for three reasons:

1) Establishments that print fliers advertising drastically discounted drink prices have lead to nothing but utter disappointment in my experience
2) The names -
"Point of no return" - this sounds dreadful. It invokes dirty thoughts of horrifying pub crawls.
"Muschi Obermaier" - this name is much more appropriate for those of us losers who will be spending Valentine's Day at a Toytown venue

3) The location - it is time we have Toytown in Mitte again. It was cute having it Timbuktu over the past few weeks, but let's bring it back to the bull's eye.

What do you all think? Sorry to so vehemently veto your suggestion, Englishman. I'll buy you a reasonably priced beer at Muschi Obermaier. Promise.

Although I am usually in favor of a Friedrichshain venue, this time i tend to agree with Staffman (especially if he is offering free beers ).

I'm kind of curious to check out englishman's venue. Since we're such a large group we definitely make the venue our own, and it's a bit more adventurous. Will do a bit more checking before I put in my final vote.

Yup, pay no attention to the website. You're right, it's way out of date so sorry to disappoint those who saw the photos and were hoping to wear bikinis!-not that there’s anything to stop you!

I found out about the place from a flyer that was handed to me a couple of weeks ago so unless it's burned down since then, I assume it's still there!

I am trying to do the research for Englishman but so far no response to my e-mail and the mobile is either switched off or no longer in use...

I just checked where the Point of No Return is (Grünberger Straße 35) on google maps and realised that it's just down the street from Goldfish (Grünberger Straße 67), which was a pretty good venue a couple weeks ago. Why don't we just give Point of No Return a try, and if it happens to be a complete disaster (which I doubt it will be because globalgirl is probably right), we can just walk down the street to Goldfish? Then everyone knows beforehand where to find the group if it can't be found at Point of No Return.

and as for the whole bikini thing ... it's says on their website that the bikini-party is on the second Friday of every month. Darn ... how unfortunate.

Since I do live close by, I just popped in on my way home tonight and the place looked good. I had to get him to open for me because he doesn't actually open until 8, so don't plan on being too early! He spoke English and said he would welcome us. No cover charge either.

Can we add "topless waitresses" as a venue requirement between "cheap drinks" and "needs to accomodate as many as 30 to 50 unannounced guests"?

Since I didn't make it there last night, can someone tell me what it was like for future reference? Is the place any good?

Probably the most ideal place for TT drinks. Enough space because hardly any one else comes there. A topless waitress (till 12), lots of comfortable chairs, couches and beds!!! and cheap drinks.

Why only until 12? Is there some kind of Cinderalla / Fairy-Godmother rule in place?

I have to ask- did the waitress put a top on at midnight, or did she leave altogether?

Maybe it is some sort of reversed cinderella story, because instead of leaving a shoe, she put on more clothes and left.

There was lots of people asking if we could change our minds about not having a regular spot for Thursday night drinks, but unfortunately I think that if we let you boys have a topless waitress every week it would just start to grow old. Essentially we don't want to ruin the novelty of seeing a topless girl for you all.

I don't think the request to make it a theme to have at least one topless girl at every drinks night would be fair on you either.

This was just a special romantic themed night in honour of Valentines day.

Was waiting for someone to come up with a place for this week, but because there are no posts yet: How about the DachKammer (Simon - Dach - Str. 39, 10245 Berlin-Friedrichshain)? I have not been there yet, but I know some of us already checked it out and are wanting to go there for a while.

The only problem with DachKammer is the space for a Thursday night outing.

Strikes me as another topless bar. Once was ok but now it turning in to a habit. It would be nice if they finished there website I have no objection. As long as its not a knocking shop or a titie bar again.

pussy galore is NOT another topless bar. not even similar. something like a 70s retro thing quite common in prenzlauer berg and friedrichshain. good prices, not so good cocktails (depends on the barkeeper of course), normally nice staff. maybe a bit small for a bigger group, but i guess the bar can handle it.

I too have been told that the name is a bit deceptive especially after last week's venue, but am reassured it is 'topped' (..what is the opposite of topless?..) bar, and looks like a decent place. Always great to try out a new bar. See you all thursday!
