newberliner
That sounds great, I will try to make it!
Is it a mix of all nationalities?
x
ScotsLassinBerlin
There are people from all over the world, but all speak fluent English, apart from a few exceptions!
toby
Hey all,

How late do these things usually go ? I have to work a little later tonight but I'd still like to come.
dipling
well, you can walk in anytime you like and say hi (or nothing at all) and walk right back out ... or ... you can stay until the early morning hours and see if vandyfan attempts a couple handstands again and breaks everything in site. laugh.gif

all the options in-between are naturally also open to you ... but if you miss the handstands, you'll be sorry! wink.gif
chicacherrycola
Just curious, whats the average age of this event?
globalgirl
The idea of thursday night is for absolutely anyone who wants to meet new people in berlin to come along, so the age range is from 18 to about 50? with most people being between 25 and 35? it changes every week. my mom came along for a couple weeks and felt welcome, so anything goes.

See you all later (bearing my new visa!!)
ScotsLassinBerlin
Congrats globalgirl...now we are stuck with you!!!
EnglishmanInBerlin
Seems like Berlin's on strike so won't make it tonight as getting back to Kreuzberg would be impossible mad.gif Hope everyone else makes it back alright! See you next week!
Kurtis08
Like newberliner, I am also new to Berlin and would be interested in going out on Thursdays and meeting new people. Just got into town this afternoon, but please keep me posted about next week's bar/pub and you can definately count me in!

Kurtis
globalgirl
ok people. anyone got any ideas for this week. let's not get to wednesday again to decide. it's not that difficult to just look at the bar at the end of your road and note down the name and peek inside and see if it could hold 30 to 50 impromptu loud english speakers.
minnow
What about Junction Cafe in Kreuzberg (Gneisenaustrasse 18, near the Gneisenaustrasse U-Bahn station on the U7)? They said it should be no problem to accomodate 30 or so people, but asked that I call in advance to let them know if we are coming. http://www.junction-bar.de/junction/index1.htm
minnow
Not to be confused with the Junction Bar downstairs. (Click on the link at the left of the web page to get to a photo of the cafe.)
EnglishmanInBerlin
Sounds great to me! Strike or no strike, I shall be there! smile.gif
lisaandclaire
Hi. what time do you usually meet up? We are a couple of new people hoping to come along tomorrow.
bantheinternet!
ok, i'd better pop down and meet some of you guys then, if everyone there is as nice as the people ive come across so far on here it should be good fun smile.gif see you there!
gooner_gal
Okay, so I see that I shall have to wait until next week to post my choice of venue. That is if you lot can cope with X-Berg two weeks in a row...
Kurtis08
So Junction Cafe it is? I'm a new TTer but I would like to make it out. See you all out there!
vincecanada
I have to go to Bonn overnight on Thurs - out this wk.
Katzchen
I will be there this week!!! First time in almost 7 months...???!!! Hope to see lots of old (as well as new, of course) faces there...you know who you are! Bis dann!
globalgirl
yay! I like special guest appearances! welcome home Katzchen (even if it is just temporary..)
minnow
Reservation is made for 8 p.m. under Toytown.

Junction Cafe (not the Junction Bar downstairs)
Gneisenaustr. 18

U7 Gneisenaustr.

See everyone there. smile.gif
PinkSmoke
Hiya everyone!

You probably already have a location for this week's meet up, but I might have a suggestion for next week's. I know since the Irish Harp opened again last year it has been known as a very German Irish pub, but a lot of things have changed. Since my local closed last year I started going to the Irish Harp again and believe or not it's not German at all! Since me and my English mates go in there a lot of other English speaking people have started coming in again.

Anyway, what I wanted to suggest was maybe to have a Thursday night in there. Every Thursday there's karaoke, which is done by an Irish bloke, it's great fun. Don't worry it's not too loud and you can easily enough sit somewhere and not get involved with anything to do with the karaoke. Would be great to see more English speakers in there!
jakwak
I haven't managed to show up to one of these yet but I'll attempt an appearance this week.
ScotsLassinBerlin
We went to the Irish Harp a few months back and they didnt seem too keen on having us there! But then again, thats cause we were outside!
PinkSmoke
I had the same problem but since we've started showin up at least twice a week they don't seem to care about the noise!
globalgirl
wasn't the harp the bar that was really expensive, had only about 3 different beers and kept forgetting us?
vincecanada
It seems to ring a bell, if we were there in late August/early September, and they wanted us to be quiet because of the neighbours?
ScotsLassinBerlin
Thats the one! We were not being that loud!!!
PinkSmoke
Well as I said, it has changed and it's definitely not about what kind of beer they have got it's about the crowd your with!
dipling
yeah, and the TT crowd is pretty entertaining ... but my personal highlight of every evening is the rush I get being as close to my Queen of TT as possible! wub.gif
Der Holländer
Did not manage to come last week because I got a cold. But today I will be there again for one or more drinks...
ScotsLassinBerlin
Surprise...
dipling
... ohmy.gif ScotsLass, are you not wearing any knickers again? happy.gif
ScotsLassinBerlin
Still laughing at myself!
MarcJ
ScotsLass, you're so bad... wub.gif
ScotsLassinBerlin
I apologise. I am very sorry for my comments, or comments made about me!
joe_or_so
hi Toytowners, how about a German guy in want of some English chat and internationalism (who has spent a fair deal of years in London and some time in the US) would that one be welcome to join the club, too? ( I introduced myself on the New to...forum post today). I'm based in Mitte, bit of a drag but what the heck.

best
Joern ('yearn')
globalgirl
We have people from all over, even...a few Germans! The more the merrier.
joe_or_so
nice to hear, thanks for the kind reply.
gooner_gal
My next week location choice has already been hijacked and we haven't even had this weeks drinks yet. That is just so wrong.
ScotsLassinBerlin
So its a Valentines Thirsty Thursday! Which I am boycotting!

Who took the baton?
dipling
you're so sexy when you're nasty! wub.gif

(p.s. *censored*)
gooner_gal
Although I was whining that I didn't get the baton last week I think EnglishmanInBerlin wants to suggest somewhere this week as it's his last week before heading off for a bit. As long as he doesn't choose that topless bar he was mentioning, I should be there. So I'll take the baton for the following week? Ok?
ScotsLassinBerlin
Englishman still wants the toplessbar! I think it would be funny!
EnglishmanInBerlin
Yup, Indeed.

So... I was walking towards the fish bar for another Thirsty Thursday a couple of weeks ago and was handed a flyer which I stuffed into my coat pocket. Some days later, I then found this flyer which looked... well.. interesting. I could say that the cheap beers at €1.50 or the cheap cocktails at €3.00 were the first things to catch my eye. But they weren't. So last Thursday, I happened to mention this flyer and as I got a few positive responses, I thought why not go to this place for a few beers, a laugh and maybe a bit of German 'sight-seeing'! It's what Germany's all about!

So, pending a little more investigation, details for Thursday are below:

Point Of No Return
Grunberger Str. 35
S+U Warschauer Str. or U Frankfurter Tor
Beer €1.50, Cocktails €3.00, Vodka Ahoj €1.00, Tequila €1.50
dipling
frightening. here's the website
laugh.gif
ScotsLassinBerlin
I think we might be offending some folk by going here to be honest!
dipling
ScotsLass, there's an awful lot of man-flesh in those bikini party pictures! Is this going to turn into a TT Girl's night out?

the most interesting line on the first page has to be:
"und wer nur chillen, abhängen und mit Freunden reden will , kann es sich auch auf einem unserer Betten gemütlich machen."
(and whoever just wants to chill, hang out, and talk to their friends, can do it on one of our comfortable beds. )
ScotsLassinBerlin
beds and dipling
dipling
yeah, but I'm more for jumping on. wink.gif
