Ok, further research shows that Montevideo may also get full fast.. So as my final suggestion I put forth:
Cafe HardenbergHardenbergstr. 10
Public Trans: Zoologischer Garten / Ernst-Reuter-Platz
If Reservations are made, table space shouldn't be a problem.
Anybody know how the Berlin cafes are taking the smoking ban?

I'm newly registered here...Does Belushi's ever make it as the venue for this Thursday meet-up? I'd like somewhere in the Prenz' Berg/Mitte area!

Never Belushi's, but I'd say more than half the time the place is in either Prenzlauer Berg or Mitte.

Oh be adventurous, and go exploring outside of your normal Realm. Theres lots more to see/do.

So if nobody objects, I'll call Cafe Hardenberg tomorrow and make a reservation. Any Ideas on how many plan to attend?

reservations are a bit hard to make. We get anywhere from about 15 or 20 people up to 50 some weeks. That's why we usually need a bar that has a bit of space. Maybe if we reserve at least space for 15 we can use that as a base to spread out from.
We have done a Thursday night in Belushi's and I've nothing against the place. We've also ventured all the way to Charlottenburg and Kberg on occasion. It's up to whoever steps up to the plate and is brave enough to suggest a bar for the week, the main idea is to try new places and meet new people.
Thanks for taking the baton this week redneck. We'll see you all thursday.

I have some adventure left in me, after all there's no shortage of venues to discover in this city! Cafe Hardenberg looks a decent place judging by the website, I'll hopefully be there tomorrow...

Some of us newbies are going to be meeting at the new national gallery beforehand to get our culture on. I'm sure all you regulars know that state museums are FREE on Thursdays. Might even make a habit out of it; Berlin has plenty of museums to choose from and it would stimulate conversation above and beyond the drink special. See you at sechs?
/Don't worry, even the museums here serve alcohol ;-)

Maybe we should make that at 6:30 at New National Gallery.

How was it at the New National Gallery? They have some nice paintings. But still i was not very impressed last time I was there, because it seamed like they gathered some random paintings.
Hope that some people are enthousiastic about this initiative, next time I would like to join you to one of the free state museums.

Can I get in early here and recommend a bar for this week? Not sure if it's been done before but I'd like to venture back to Goldfisch in Friedrichshain, Grünberger Str. 67. I was there a while back and remember it being a really cool cocktail bar with a bunch of small enclaves for personal discussion (or to hide loud English-speakers). I remember last time I was there, drinking two of the best Black Russians ever and barely being able to get on the tram to come home. Good times. Any thoughts?

The turnout for last weeks "Free Pre-Toytown/Funk Museum Meeting Crazy Culture Super Spectacular!" (working title) was... disappointing. So this week I'm putting in my plug early:
Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart @ 18:30
Invalidenstraße 50-51
10557 Berlin-Tiergarten
Public Transport:
U-Bahn U6 (Zinnowitzer Straße)
S-Bahn S3, S5, S7, S75, S9 (
Hauptbahnhof)
Tram M6, M8, 12 (Zinnowitzer Straße)
Bus M41, M85, TXL (Hauptbahnhof); 120, 123, 147, 240, 245 (Invalidenpark)

@reso_nate: Hamburger Bahnhof sounds good, especially as I was thinking of going there myself this week, but when I checked the website it said they are only open till 6pm on Thursday's, so just thought I'd mention it here...

Verdammt. You are absolutely right spacecadet. In light of this new information, and because of its proximity to the Goldfisch (if that is indeed where we will be going), I propose the Bodes museum on museum island instead. Although, I may duck out of work early and go to the Hamburger Banhof between 2 and 4 when it is free anyway, because I hear it is amazing; and work is not.

Jan 21 2008, 10:53 pm
Damn, also was thinking about going to the Hamburgerbahnhof Museum, the posters already got my attention. But the Bodes Museum sounds also ok, will try to make it in time from work. But I am coming to the Goldfish for sure...finaly I am in town with a Friedrichshain TT drink.

I shall come along for this
..Now it says the meet time is 8pm will most people arrive then or will it be just me and a beer until 9:30?
globalgirl
Jan 23 2008, 9:38 am
because it's a school night for a few of us there's usually a few people arriving between 8 and 8.30. And as usual, can one of the first people to arrive mention to the bar staff that if anyone asks for Toytown to point out where we are sitting - so if you're new and don't immediately spot the large group of loud english speakers you can find us by asking at the bar.

Hello everybody, I am just visiting Berlin, I live in Köln.
I´m staying in Berlin Mitte, and saw your meet up for tonight, could I tag along?
I have checked the address out on the map it does not look too far away.
What time do you all meet?
Ok, will wait for reply...

I didn't hear if the baton was picked up by anyone to chose next weeks venue, but stay tuned. by tomorrow afternoon we should have 2 new threads, one for Thursday night drinks (any suggestions on a bar that can hold 30+ unexpected guests easily?) and one for the pre-thursday night museum meet up.

I thought someone had mentioned just picking a random bar near kastanian allee (think this was someone who lives around of on the street itself), but the regular rules apply. First person to post a reasonable bar (ie. we can fit 30+ people) gets to pick the venue.
Also did anyone notice a floral umbrella left behind last thursday night? I think I left mine at the bar.

Well, the culture approach doesn't seem to be working very well. Lets try this:
FREE PHOTOS OF BEAUTIFUL NAKED WOMEN!at the Helmut Newton Museum/Museum Photography at 19:00.
It will be shutting down on monday for renovations and won't open again until this summer.
Jebensstraße 2
right behind the Zoologischer Garten Station, its the building with those big mugshots of photographers on the front.
This is the only one safe for work:

How many people turn up?
Usually between 10-40. I'm expecting about 30 tonight.

Public transit? You should check out bvg.de - they have a route planner where you stick in 2 addresses and a time and it tells you your best S-Bahn/U-Bahn/Tram/Bus options.
ScotsLassinBerlin
Jan 31 2008, 1:59 pm
newberliner, The Details of the address and normally the closest U-bahn, S-Bahn and Tram stops are posted on one of the threads above. On a good night around 30+ people will turn up, like last week. On a bad week, about 10 people, but that doenst happen too often!
For your benifit I will repeat the information from above:
August Fengler
Lychener Str. 11
