May I ask what is the usual age group who usually go to these meetings? I would love to get to know some more of the English-speaking community here in Berlin but from what I can gather, these meets are usually full of youngsters getting inebriated. Would there be room for a woman of 'advancing years'?

Everyone is always welcome but I guess your right might not be exactly the right social gathering for everyone - I guess the only real way to find out is to give it a go if it's not right for you start something else up.

hi margaret, I sent you a PM about the Berlin International Women's Club - in case you are interested. Ladies from all over the globe from many different backgrounds (who have at least one thing in common - they speak English!)
If drinks night is not what you are looking for BIWC is another option.

Hey! I just moved to Berlin a week ago and working as an Au pair in Charlottenburg. I would be keen to come meet some new people but was wondering what districts you normally meet up in.. im pretty terrified of the underground! I would be keen to find some kiwis i can commiserate with over our dismal world cup performance! haha

OK, this is really my last TT before I move back to the US and I am going back to an oldie but a goodie for Oct. 25: "Bar an der Karl-Marx Allee," Karl-Marx-Allee 36.
There is no sign outside, but you can't miss it; it's the one that looks like a big glass cube, right next to Cafe Moskau. It's about a 5-minute walk from Alex or you can pop up at the U5 Schillingstrasse stop and there you are.
I'll be there at 8:00 with my three houseguests in tow. Hope to see you all there and get the chance to say goodbye to anyone I have missed.

Hey guys. I am sorry to have missed last week's. I ended up with that horrible Ebola like illness that is going around Berlin. ugh. I was down for a week straight. Not fun.
See you Thursday. I
think I'm beyond the contagious phase.

PM me if you are looking for a very good or a very bad doctor in Berlin. I've encountered both over the past few days.

Sounds like a news headline but the haha about sums it up. I was laughing all the way to the bank when the all blacks went out and the boks took the title again. Good show, but even better when i saw the look on the english players faces after the match. I took a lot of flak from my UK mates before the game but now there is no sight nor sound from them.
All in all a good world cup with a few good surprises that caught many unaware.
Better luck in 2011!!!

I'll be there buying a drink for anyone wearing the Boks' colours (that's green and gold, not the Wallabies' gold and green)

Yes, all are welcome. Just show up and if it's not obvious where we are, wander from table to table saying, "Toytown?" until someone doesn't look at you like you are crazy.

We had a really decent turn out last week with 30+ people, and a lot of new faces. Will be sad to see another one of the original founding group leave. I'm sure you'll be missed on Thirsty Thursdays wiggle.
See you all tomorrow.

I didn't hear any claims for the 'baton' so it seems we are in need of a venue for this weeks Thirsty Thursday. Any ideas?

The person with the baton suggested Klo on Leibnizstr. 57
However, to make a reservation I think there might be a charge per head, if I have understood it correctly. What does everyone think?

That is actually the bar's website, Marc

It's just a small kneipe in Charlottenburg which isn't the most party location, but that doesn't mean Toytowners won't be able to take it over if needed...

What do you guys think of Fire Bar on Krausnickstraße 5? It's sort of quiet and cosy. I don't know for sure, but I bet they wouldn't charge for groups.

We did Fire Bar a few weeks ago. But if there's no other suggestions, we could perhaps go for a repeat since we know there'll be room...

Looks like Firebar is out.
I just came back from having a drink there. They weren't too keen on a big group showing up because it turns out they are celebrating the bar's fifth birthday Thursday night with a big party.
Sorry for the confusion.

What about Schwarze Cafe, it's just off Savignyplatz on Kantstr.? It's in Charlottenburg which is in keeping with the original suggestion and they have a huge room upstairs so I'm pretty sure they'd have space for us.

At the risk of spliting the group in two there seems to be no real committment to a venue this week as a result and at great risk of reinventing the east west divide Alex_m, and I are bailing to our old comfortable favourite haunt for thristy thursday drinks so if anyone else is a little confused please feel free to join us at Erdbeer.
edit woops for any newbies that would be beer-max str. U2 Rosa Luxenburg plz if you exit and see Belushi's go out the other exit.
jessephrenic
Nov 1 2007, 1:18 pm
Meh I don't think anyone really cares where it is, let's make Erdbeer "official" unless anyone *really* wants to go somewhere else. Toytown's much more about the chatting than the tour of new locations.
jessephrenic
Nov 1 2007, 1:20 pm
And for those of you looking on Google Maps, the address of Erdbeer is: Max-Beer-Str. 56 10119 Berlin (and slightly north from where Google Maps suggests)
