Hi all,
I've been living in Berlin for a couple months and only recently heared of this forum. I'm a canadian who's been living in Germany for a couple years but I'm fairly new to Berlin and I'd love to meet new people and discover more of the city.
Anyway, if I don't work too late tonight I'm gonna try to stop by "Scotch and Sofa" (?) and hope to find you guys. What time to you usually meet?
Cheers,
Paolo

8 pm is the "scheduled" time, though most don't start showing up until 8:30pm or later. Last time we were here, we wound up in the basement - so check there if you don't see a crowd in the upstairs.

I may make an appearance tonight. I have three books, 2 of which are crime stories (one is fantastic, I never finished the other one), and thirdly the original "Ring" which takes place in Japan. The book wasn't nearly as edge-of-your-seat as the movie though. I'll bring them with me tonight.

Well guys you seem to have a nice little community going there. Im Tom from Dublin and I just moved here.
So its just a bit of socializing then, I would say its right bit of crack. Kinda hard to met people here, my best friend at the moment here is the barman in the Irish pub,
OSCAR WILDE. Dont worry I am not an alcho. I will buy somebody a drink tonight if they can tell me who Oscar Wilde was and one obvious characteristic about him, and no using Google, that bloody thing has ruined quizzes altogether!!
Well chat to you guys later!! But somebody come back to me just to make sure its the right City, ha ha

He's a very well known writer (Irish, i think) ... wrote all kinds of stuff: novels, plays, poems, ... but was much more than just a writer.
His most obvious characteristic would definitely be his sexual tendencies ... homosexual, bisexual ... most things that you can think of would probably apply in some way, shape or form.
You owe me a drink ... a Manhattan if they have em!
(if anyone on this board has never heard of the guy, they're too young to be going to a scotch bar!

forget about the drink ... the bet was way too easy. The guy was a genius and said/wrote some pretty funny s***.
I can't relate to his other interests though ... not my cup of tea.
Unfortunately, I can't answer your other questions. I've been a member for about three hours more than you!

I will tke the drink if it is unwanted!
This place is laid back, and feel free to brink books if you want to swap, but the main idea is to have a drink and meet new people. Books etc are an added extra!

I would love to give you the drink, but unfortunately for you, your from Scotland. Sorry!!
Poor attempt at humour! Of course you can have the drink, dont ever turn down a free drink, even when your trying to be polite!
You see the Scottish have the same ideals as the Irish!

... if you guys are gonna drink a lot, I suggest you stay away from the Manhattans. Don't pollute your irish/scottish blood with that canadian crap ... leave that up to me!

Ah, I think you guys are bing a little unfair to Danny Boy... He's just Old School.
An exerpt from Wikip: In Irish English, the word crack, which recently has increasingly come to be spelled craic, means "fun, enjoyment, abandonment...

So mom is now winging her way to Munich and onwards back to Canada. I would just like to thank everyone on the past 2 thursday nights for giving my head a brake and chatting with her. She's heard about 'Thursday night drinks' since last october and was pleased to finally be able to see what it's about and enjoyed to conversations.
(yeah yeah, I know she's not that bad. it's just 2 weeks straight is a very long time when there's no other people but her and I alone...)

globalgirl
Oct 9 2007, 12:03 pm
There's a big range in ages from 18 to (...well, my mom was there a couple weeks ago...). I'd say the majority is between 25 and 35, but the idea is that Thursday night drinks is open to everyone that wants to meet new people in Berlin.

Chausseestr. 35, 10115 Berlin-Mitte
http://www.theaterbar.de/They have a jazz group playing tomorrow -
http://www.mreart.com/ that seems pretty ok from their website (so there's a 4 eur entry?) but it's a thought if no place else is suggested...

Of course I'm just building suspense -- when I said "I'll post the location on Monday," that obviously meant "Wednesday." (And sorry, Rose, I love jazz clubs more than most, but they sadly aren't very good places to have meet-ups designed to drive conversation.)
I'm just confirming the address of the place now -- it'll be online in 30 minutes. (By which, of course, I mean 45 minutes.)
