Hi all,
I've been living in Berlin for a couple months and only recently heared of this forum. I'm a canadian who's been living in Germany for a couple years but I'm fairly new to Berlin and I'd love to meet new people and discover more of the city.

Anyway, if I don't work too late tonight I'm gonna try to stop by "Scotch and Sofa" (?) and hope to find you guys. What time to you usually meet?

Cheers,
Paolo

8 pm is the "scheduled" time, though most don't start showing up until 8:30pm or later. Last time we were here, we wound up in the basement - so check there if you don't see a crowd in the upstairs.
MarcJ
sorry wrong topic. How do you delete posts?
EtainVeronique
I may make an appearance tonight. I have three books, 2 of which are crime stories (one is fantastic, I never finished the other one), and thirdly the original "Ring" which takes place in Japan. The book wasn't nearly as edge-of-your-seat as the movie though. I'll bring them with me tonight.
Danny Boy 2
Well guys you seem to have a nice little community going there. Im Tom from Dublin and I just moved here.

So its just a bit of socializing then, I would say its right bit of crack. Kinda hard to met people here, my best friend at the moment here is the barman in the Irish pub, OSCAR WILDE. Dont worry I am not an alcho. I will buy somebody a drink tonight if they can tell me who Oscar Wilde was and one obvious characteristic about him, and no using Google, that bloody thing has ruined quizzes altogether!!

Well chat to you guys later!! But somebody come back to me just to make sure its the right City, ha ha

He's a very well known writer (Irish, i think) ... wrote all kinds of stuff: novels, plays, poems, ... but was much more than just a writer.
His most obvious characteristic would definitely be his sexual tendencies ... homosexual, bisexual ... most things that you can think of would probably apply in some way, shape or form.

You owe me a drink ... a Manhattan if they have em!

(if anyone on this board has never heard of the guy, they're too young to be going to a scotch bar! wink.gif )
Danny Boy 2
Of course he's Irish, dont doubt yourself! You really knew. But a bets a bet, one manhattan coming up! So tell me about this place is it nice and do I bring books, dvd's etc..

Tom
dipling
forget about the drink ... the bet was way too easy. The guy was a genius and said/wrote some pretty funny s***.
I can't relate to his other interests though ... not my cup of tea.

Unfortunately, I can't answer your other questions. I've been a member for about three hours more than you! laugh.gif
ScotsLassinBerlin
I will tke the drink if it is unwanted!

This place is laid back, and feel free to brink books if you want to swap, but the main idea is to have a drink and meet new people. Books etc are an added extra!
Danny Boy 2
I would love to give you the drink, but unfortunately for you, your from Scotland. Sorry!!

Poor attempt at humour! Of course you can have the drink, dont ever turn down a free drink, even when your trying to be polite!

You see the Scottish have the same ideals as the Irish!
ScotsLassinBerlin
I have a problem...cause I am half Irish, half scottish=alcoholic!
Sandgroperin
mmmm so how did I end up an alcoholic
Danny Boy 2
OK alcoholic you can go first, just let it out!

And Scotts lass, tell me about the Irish blood, where is it?
dipling
oh no ... are there really so many alcoholics here?! ohmy.gif
... if you guys are gonna drink a lot, I suggest you stay away from the Manhattans. Don't pollute your irish/scottish blood with that canadian crap ... leave that up to me! biggrin.gif
Danny Boy 2
Thanks for the helpful hint, I will try and remember that, bad memory!

So what you doing here then, working? Did you just arrive in Berlin?

Aussie. Don't think any more need be said.
Sandgroperin
nah being Aussie has nothing to do with it just can't think for myself and bend to all the peer pressure.
Danny Boy 2
Ok thanks for the explaination!! I have never been there, but I have heard that have a very similiar outlook on life to the Irish. Do I even have to put it down on paper. So you seem to be one of the founding members of this thing, good crack?
Danny Boy 2
PEER Pressure, where would the world be without peer pressure, would any of us have done anything!!
dipling

isn't that a line out of "Human Traffic"?
GoodGrief
Ya'll have fun! I'll be at a concert tonight and then out of town the next few weeks. See ya when i come back!
SG, you're not an alcoholic. It's called social drinking and you just can't help how social we all are. laugh.gif
Sandgroperin
Well I use to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure. mmmm nah I have changed my mind peer pressure has nothing to do with it we are all obviously just drunken nutters.

Isn't it spelled craic? Unless you're talking about something else... ph34r.gif
lodge
one might say that his crack is wide open (to interpretation) rolleyes.gif
Danny Boy 2
Yeh you got me there, craic is correct. No I am not a drug dealer!!! So now that it is spelt correctly does that mean you can answer the question?
MarcJ
Ah, I think you guys are bing a little unfair to Danny Boy... He's just Old School.

An exerpt from Wikip: In Irish English, the word crack, which recently has increasingly come to be spelled craic, means "fun, enjoyment, abandonment...

So mom is now winging her way to Munich and onwards back to Canada. I would just like to thank everyone on the past 2 thursday nights for giving my head a brake and chatting with her. She's heard about 'Thursday night drinks' since last october and was pleased to finally be able to see what it's about and enjoyed to conversations.

(yeah yeah, I know she's not that bad. it's just 2 weeks straight is a very long time when there's no other people but her and I alone...)
sotaLaura
Your mother was a pleasure to talk to! Hope she got back to Canada alright!

So it sounds like people are interested in Fire Bar?
MarcJ
Fire Bar Sounds COOL rolleyes.gif
EtainVeronique
Yeah! This is a great place, you guys won't be disappointed. Pretty hard to find though, so make sure you consult the Berlin Stadtplan beforehand. It is after all, a local yokel on a quiet street!
dipling
Count me in.
HeroinBob
I'd like to come along...but, erm...when's everybody getting there?
lodge
Theoretically 8pm but the cool kids usually arrive around 8.30 smile.gif
globalgirl
I finish work at 7.30 and can't be bothered to go all the way home and back, so going to just mill around mitte until the bar opens at 8 ish.
travelnate
For the first time since July, and perhaps the third time since June, I may be able to grace you all with my presence tonight. Brace yourselves...
ScotsLassinBerlin

Ok Mr...where're we off to on Thursday?
globalgirl
There's a big range in ages from 18 to (...well, my mom was there a couple weeks ago...). I'd say the majority is between 25 and 35, but the idea is that Thursday night drinks is open to everyone that wants to meet new people in Berlin.
foreverescape
Hi, I've been reading the forum for a while and moved to Berlin two weeks ago, up for the drinks Thursday. Sarah
phoenix-rose
Well, if Nate doesn't make a suggestion soon, might I suggest...

Theaterbar in Berlin Mitte?
Chausseestr. 35, 10115 Berlin-Mitte

http://www.theaterbar.de/

They have a jazz group playing tomorrow - http://www.mreart.com/ that seems pretty ok from their website (so there's a 4 eur entry?) but it's a thought if no place else is suggested...
Sandgroperin
umm well hopefully he is building suspence and not keeled over from my cooking
travelnate
Of course I'm just building suspense -- when I said "I'll post the location on Monday," that obviously meant "Wednesday." (And sorry, Rose, I love jazz clubs more than most, but they sadly aren't very good places to have meet-ups designed to drive conversation.)

I'm just confirming the address of the place now -- it'll be online in 30 minutes. (By which, of course, I mean 45 minutes.)

DRINKS THIS WEEK
will be at Winsenz, a nice warm little kneipe on Winsstrasse between Immanuelkirchstr. and Marienburger Str.

The street address is Winsstrasse 58. Google maps has it here

Just take the M2 tram to Knaackstrasse or the M4 tram to Hufelandstrasse, and you're 1.5 blocks away.

Drinks start at 8pm. Who's in?
ScotsLassinBerlin
Me Me Me! Possible the closest TT to my wee hoousie
Sandgroperin
woohoo he's alive I'll drink to that
