Been hearing fantastic things about last thursday. Feel like I really missed out. Was busy practicing my French in Dublin. (Get progressively easier the more Ciders you have) This island is over-run with French. Off to denmark tomorrow. Will be missing another Thursday

will have to make up for it next week big time.

Hi Everyone,
So does anyone have any suggestions for this Thursday's meet up? Cause I organised last week and passed the baton so to speak, however the person in question has not taken the challenge! Also whereever we end up, can someone please send me home at a reasonable time... 5am is not reasonable!
I will try post the photos from last week too. If no one comes up with any suggestions, I will post a time and a place, so if you want to change the area, speak up!

Don't know who you put in charge with this week's location (it wasn't me!

), but anything that is close to the S-Bahn and central (like Mitte for instance) would be good for me. Last week was good, too (U2 is no prob either)! I trust you and your pub choices, Mhairi!

I have a suggestion! It's a restaurant/bar called The Bird in Prenzlauer Berg. Just like a standard dive bar back home, complete with burgers and wings and friendly service from tattooed American bartenders. It's a 5- to 10-minute walk from either Schönhauser Allee or Eberswalder Str. I would reserve a big table, but there is also plenty of space to just hang out around the bar.
As described in the easyJet magazine:
The Bird (5 Am Falkplatz, Prenzlauer Berg. Tel. 030 5105 3283) The newly opened Bird is a haven for carnivores. The burgers and steaks are of the highest standard and perfectly cooked to order. Also enjoy caesar salad, cheesecakes and a pleasing selection of wine and beers.

Good Idea Wiggle! Especially since it is near me again! I reckon we should go with this! Anyone second this motion?

Dammit, why is it always so far away? I agree with Kat. Somewhere in Mitte would be better. There are a few cool looking places on Torstrasse, unfortunately i dont know their names. Blah.

Yep, "The Bird" works for me, too (S-Bahn station nearby, plus the place sounds nice). Maybe you could come up with a place next time, Johnny?
Oh, and your pictures turned out really well, Mhairi! Thanks for sharing them.

Johnny, maybe you or Kat should take up the baton for next week and plan something in Mitte or wherever works for you? Any given place is going to be far away for someone or not someone's style or what have you, and the only way to make sure you get what you want is to make it happen yourself!
I think the system we have now of anyone being able to take the baton and decide where to meet is effective: both democratic and autocratic at the same time. : ) And I think as more people take part, we should see a greater variety of neighborhoods represented.

As I said, I am fine with whatever place is close to a train station (and not further east than Friedrichshain).

The Bird I think takes it! Would you like to do the honours Wiggle and make the posting!? See you Thursday!

Johnny, I tried to pass the Baton to one of your 'peeps' but no one was willing to take on the challenge!
But next week, we should make a point of moving it away from P'Berg...even if it does mean me wandering around Berlin at stupid AM in the morning!
Kat78
Dec 5 2006, 4:19 pm
Definitely somewhere other than Prenzlberg next time!

Love when its in walking distance! or at least a quick tram. But now that I have a month pass and no longer having to battle the I"m lazy and dont' want to peddle my bike there in the cold/wet/dark/light/warm/sun/after work plant my butt on my bed time of day, I can make it when its not so close either. So go Kreuzbergers, Friedrickshainers, and all you people you might live elswhere in berlin, batton seems to be sitting on a table feeling rather lonely and neglected, won't one of you pick it up?

Great! I'll be back home from travelling, only to have to hit the road again to travel to these far out lands outside of Pberg! I'll only just get unpacked and will have to pack again.
Off to go sleep in the airport tonight! Denmark tomorrow! (got a little carried away with the going a little further afield for thursday night drinks)
Hmm, I did actually have a suggestion, but it got buried in the archive:

Plus these things always slow down slightly in December. There's lots of other Christmas parties going on, people are leaving the country to go home, etc.. There were only seven at the Munich Tuesday drinks this week - as opposed to the usual 20+. It'll pick up again second or third week of January.

Hello Toytown! I've finally managed to get myself signed up so I am no longer just spying on the forum! Last Thursday was so great that I see it as no problem at all to trek all the way up to Prenzlauer Berg tonight so I will see you all there! - perhaps until 5am again!

Just got home. Thanks for a spectacular night out, guys! You all rule...
The wings were slightly disappointing, but it was nice hanging out and meeting new people. Y'all missed a fun show at Kaffee Burger, though...
Also, we should go back for brunch someday.
Did anybody try any food besides the wings? It seemed like the sort of place that might do American food right, and apparently the burgers and steaks are well regarded.
When I noticed MGD on their drinks menu, I was tempted to lament to the staff that no one ever has Miller High Life in Europe. For the times when you want to put aside the microbrews and craft beers and guzzle some mass-produced swill, it's hard to beat the Champagne of Beers.

I had a blackened burger...other than the fact it was on an english muffin (weird Wendy's triple-chee/McDonald's Egg McMuffin vibe going on) and that there were discernable "moos" coming from the center, it was very good (and gigantor). A little odd, but definitely good. And the fries were pretty American standard as well--enjoyed them. I will definitely go back to have another burger (I'd put it alongside White Trash in terms of burgers in Berlin).
All in all, enjoyed the joint. Not quite the American dive bar and grill I think it may want to be (who knows, maybe not), primarily because of the prices, but I thought it was a pretty cool place...
Don't know about the high life. Kind of glad I can't find it here...although Boosh Lite is another story

So, figure since it's been a while since I've held the baton and no one is taking charge...
I'm suggesting Kastanian allee. Either "Sonntage im August" or "
Morgan Rot".

So, would that be the "Mitte" part of Kastanienallee?

"

back to the point, right, yes, will be there thurs. I believe. Cafe Morgenrot it is then. See you then!
So I was going to suggest
the Black Swan in Charlottenburg as a future drinks night site, but according to their website they've been closed for two years. Anyone know about this? I could have sworn I walked past the place over the summer, but maybe I only thought about it.
In the meantime, P'Berg works fine for me, since I live in Mitte.

I used to live right next to the "Black Swan", and yes, it's been closed for over two years now. I was sad to witness it shutting its doors back then. I think the owners moved away. Now there's some Greek restaurant there. GREAT! *rolls eyes*
